Dear SNK,
First off, allow me to express my most enthusiastic appreciation for ALL that you and your collective have designed, produced and released into the World. I'm speaking to/with you at This moment not as a Fan, but as Your Son. That's Right, a son You raised from the time I was left on the company doorstep in 1993 to Now. This isn't a letter of disapproval, disdain or dissatisfaction...it's more so a letter of remembrance. A reminder so to say of who/what you Are. I see what you're doing with your upcoming 'City of the Wolves' project and it looks interesting so far. I mean I'm already stoked to get my hands on the game. However, I want to point out some things that are obvious to me and some who can consider themselves Fans of the Original (Shin Nihon Kikaku/SNK Corporation) company. Please do not take this as slight against you, but understandably...it's been somewhat difficult for you to transition into this online play era of gaming. So much so that it's brought about some questionable business and marketing practices.
SNK was the first...The First gaming company that actually established some connectivity and continuity within their games and characters. Which assisted in many fans to feel involved when partaking in playing those classic arcade/home games. Other companies "borrowed" that floor plan and established PALE comparisons to the characters, stories and personalities of your properties. You guys were Rock Stars. True innovators of the 90s. Although you never got the acclaim and recognition you deserved in those times. You've had a strong presence in MANY areas of the World, but not the reach as the "other" company and titles with all due respect. Character design, gaming mechanics...and other innovative conceptions that put you YEARS AHEAD of your competition. You guys were Untouchable for Years in those aspects. Your games were interactive, they gave fans something to look forward to upon Any announcement of either a sequel or a new project you guys were dropping. Once you either put a quarter in a Neo-Geo MVS machine, hit the switch of a Neo-Geo AES console or even got ahold of a ported version of one of your classic titles and that 'SNK' logo chimed in - stating 'The Future is Now'...Fans KNEW they were in for an Awesome experience.
While other gaming companies were simply taking the cookie-cutter mold, refilling it and adding various "nic-nacs" claiming it was a different cookie. You guys took the mold, reshaped it and produced products that gave lead way for the next project to be better than the last. SNK was not scared to challenge the so-called status quo of gaming. SNK was not so easily influenced to cut corners and find an "easier" route to get their titles past the borders of their popularity. Their confidence and pride in their products showed with each and every title. From 'Crystalis' to 'The King of Fighters 2000'. With every sketch, sprite, build-up and development...each SNK title can and will stand out from games that came before and most certainly games that came after. However, in this new age of gaming...SNK has had multiple dilemmas that can easily hinder the progress of a title/game that helped defined their legacy. Although many of the games in this new era can be said to be visually stunning, there's not much that helps to carry these new titles beyond its visuals. Case in point, 'KoF XV'. Visually beautiful. No complaints there. No complaints At All. I will state that these new age titles suffer from 2 main components. The first being that upon release...fans, hardcore and casual gamers have had tedious times finding matches online. In this day and age, that is Essential if you want to even somewhat stay afloat in the gaming industry. Second, your current titles have been infected from what A LOT of games have been plagued with...and that's a lack of Replay Value.
Like other games, once gamers go through the hoops, hurdles and obstacles of unlocking special items, characters and stages...what's left but to wait for seasonal DLC for us to purchase. Hoping to add depth to a semi-completed game. The story in 'The King of Fighters' series hasn't been engaging since 'The King of Fighters XI'. It's like you guys have settled to how your "competitors" are producing their titles and taking their leftover scraps. Especially almost every fighting game looking similar to how 'Street Fighter IV' looked. Again, I am Your Son...you Raised me...You've contributed So Much to my upbringing...So I'll ALWAYS Love you for what you've done for Me. So I ask that you do not receive my words with any scorn, ridicule or contempt. I'm just a fan, being a fan...expressing the Love I have for what made me a fan. Look at me, I'm typing this entertaining the idea that someone from the company would actually read this, smh, lol. But forgive me for my being too wordy and pardon me if I came off antagonistic. Either way, with that I say...
Thank You SNK,
I was wondering if anyone would know of the ps2 anthologies would be better than aca neo geo. I was planning to get four of them. Here are the three I have left that I was going to get.
I was going to get the aca neo geo but they are 8 buck a pop the collections are a bit cheaper as a bundle (like four to five bucks a game). Should I get the collections instead of them separately? Thanks. And yes I know there is a samurai shodown and a metal slug too. Bit samurai shodown I can always get later on switch as there is a collection.
It's a really tough fight that I can't stop struggling with.
I was reading The King Of Fighters: The Ultimate History book which came up with a several interviews with nearly every director, artist, but the one that caught my attention was Kyo's first voice actor, Masahiro Nonaka. Nonaka wasn't confident with how to portray Kyo in order to make him as appealing as other famous SNK characters. During the interview, he says that he was big fan of a young singer and martial artist named Yutaka Osaki who died in 1992 when he was only 26 on unknown circumstances. Nonaka decided to use Osaki as his model when delivering Kyo's lines. This apparently was a major success but it goes even further. In the visual novel KOF: Kyo, there is a karaoke fight between Kyo and Iori. Nonaka sang "Pieces" The entire scene now feels like tribute Osaki especially when I read he basically has the same hobbies as Kyo. What do you think
guessing maybe next month they would show Mai Shiranui gameplay in SF6. though not sure about release date. so did they do it with Terry? a trailer then a release a month later? some think maybe january, but think the release gap isnt that large, could ready in the next 2 months though it can vary. I think she would wear a traditional outfit instead of COTW, but who knows. I have yet to sign up for the capcom account stuff, so havent accessed online in SF6. so I guess if I do get the DLC it would be for local versus CPU. they really should let the main cast free roam in world tour mode, that would be epic. the avatars are awesome, but they could have both usable there ya know in like a free mode. but of course capcom uses story excuses to limit their mode's selection. and how come they don't sell the chineses dresses the chinatown opponents wear at night?
but yea anyways, could be interesting how they design Mai in SF6. not expecting much though cause still say she looks and plays best in DOA 5 and DOA 6.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about SNK while playing their games, it’s that they have some pretty good music. From Fatal Fury to the King of Fighters, SNK’s got some pretty sweet themes for their character stages. And, much to my happiness, I’ve found that you can download songs from many of SNK’s games off the iTunes store. However, with this discovery, I find myself faced with a problem: deciding which songs I’m going to download. I’m sure most of you were able to figure this out, but I don’t have unlimited iTunes money, so that means I likely won’t be able to download very many songs to my iPhone. So, I’d like to know: what are all of your top picks for SNK music? Like, which songs do all of you consider to be the best and most worth downloading off the iTunes store? If you have any such recommendations, please share them down in the comments, and I’ll be sure to take them into consideration when I go to make my purchases.
