I am currently filling out the scholars program & STEM program application. Is it difficult to get into the Scholars program? What about the STEM program? I was filling out both applications and stumbled accross the writing part of it. Is the response determinant if you get in or not (similar to the weight UC essays hold)? Also, I already enrolled in some classes (for the summer 2024 term) but have not paid yet. They don't pile up to 12 units so I am afraid that I do not qualify for SMC Promise...But for Fall 2024, they do pile up to 12 units. What's not helpful is that I am having trouble with FAFSA due to my parents not having an SSN, thus being unable to provide their signature...THUS, how am I going to pay T_T . Honestly I don't know what is going on (im first-gen xd)

I am enrolling for the summer 2024 term and already have a medium-sort of strong? foundation of calculus 1 since I am currently finishing it in highschool. I am taking ap calc ab rn so I can receive credit (if I pass the exam) but if i'm being honest with myself, I am not passing that exam. I already looked into El Camino College because I heard the math department at smc was not that great but due to my unavailability, I am unable to take them there. My only choices now are: Kamin G, Cheng T T, Chan H J (for MATH7)...

Honestly, I don't know if i'm screwed...please help xd

I plan on taking Phys 3 and either a Communications course / Statistics (Math 54) over the summer. Does anyone recommend this or find this manageable / Phys 3 would be online with Professor Ellis?

I’ll be a freshman in fall of 2024 and i’m in the scholars program. All the courses/professors/dates and overall making my own schedule seems really overwhelming - can/will a counselor help me build my schedule? I know most of my friends at 4 year universities have had help during orientation - but enrollment begins May 7th so I’m scared to miss out on classes. Any advice or tips?

I live within the area of where SMC is the local community college and will be joining the military active duty, full time. Can I attend SMC virtually and get my associates done fully online?

I’ve tried a dozen times to login in incognito and to delete my cookies like some ppl said but still no luck. Can anyone give me some reviews for the workload (essays, homework, quizzes, midterm/final, etc.) and grading of these Engl 2 classes? Any of them gives in-class or timed essays? I can only take Engl 2 in person, and these are the ones that fit my schedule. I did check RMP but wanna hear more.

I'm a current freshman who's currently at West LA, who plans on taking my future courses (summer 2024, fall 2024, ...) at smc. I realized I should have been there from the start and wish I was in the scholars program. I applied for the upcoming semesters and was denied because I had too many courses completed. How do non scholars students from smc acceptences to top UCs look like. I'm a 4.0 student but worried this might mess up my acceptances bc of my high impacted majors (Econ, business).

I have already chosen professor SCHWARTZ for my psych1. Thoughts on that?

Is anyone here in the STEM Program? Is the program selective? Does it boost the transfer application like the Scholars? I’m interested in becoming a peer mentor. What are the requirements to become one? The website says students in the program have to take Couns 12, Couns 15, and Science 10, but my Summer and Fall schedules are full. Does that mean I’m not eligible for the program if I don’t take those classes?

Anyone taken Psych 2 Scholars or regular with Shirinyan? Looking to take this class and would like any input on the difficulty of the class and the professor. I checked RMP and it seems good but I just want an authentic perspective.

I signed up for chem 10 in the summer because I honestly need a review of chemistry. Is chem 10 in the summer hard? Is it like AP chem? I’ve put myself on the open seat notification list for a couple classes for the last couple of semesters and it’s never helped at all. I have my phone buzz me as soon as I get the notification, I rush to enroll as fast as I can, and the spot is already taken every time. It’s happened about 10-15 times so far and I’ve never gotten a seat. Anyone know any tricks? Are people using automated software to register or something? Do some people get the notification earlier than others? It’s all so stressful and annoying.

Ik it’s calc, so I expect it to be a difficult class. But how good of a professor is he? Does he make calc easier to understand? What does a usual class w him look like?

Hi, I’m an art major looking to go into nursing. For context, I’m 17, dropped out of high school at 15 and took the CHSPE. I haven’t took the prerequisites yet but am signing up for them next semester. Can nursing students or alum from smc tell me if it was hard to get into the program? Is the program itself really hard and rigorous? I really want to do this but I don’t even know where to start. (Although I have a GED I know all the material I need for college but I struggle greatly with math) ((dropped finite math twice))

Hi, I'm taking 15 units this semester and they are only giving me the amount I would get if I were taking 12 units. What should I do because every bit of financial aid goes a long way? I was hoping the census date would fix this on its own.

I’m planning on enrolling soon and was wondering how online classes are at SMC? Are they challenging or do you guys feel like they are pretty easy to keep up with and get a good grade in the class? I am aiming to have as high of a GPA as possible so curious as to what path would be best for that! I like the online option because I’m pretty burnt out from school but also want to be considerate of difficulty and what would allow me to excel the most at SMC!

Has anyone ever taken a class with Professor Tahvildaranjess, Woods or Oifer. I wanted to take POL SC 1 in the fall and those are the only professors that are offering on ground sections. Tried to look on rate my Professor but I guess no one has written a review yet so I'm not sure which instructor would be the best.

Hey everyone, so I just checked summer enrollment classes and noticed that a class I really need is not being offered this summer. I already requested it but it says that its going to be considered, not exactly reassuring. I am transfering this fall so its kinda urgent. I was thinking about emailing some of the teachers that are teaching the course this semester but I dont want to be rude and be like "hey can you work this summer?" What should I do? Should I reach out to the teachers? Maybe my counselor?

I wasn't able to enroll in any of the scholars courses I needed today. If I don't end up enrolling in any scholars courses for this fall will that harm my standing in the scholars program and cause me to get dropped? What are the rules behind taking honors/scholars courses at another school to fulfill the 15 units required for UCLA TAP certification? If I do not end up getting into any of the scholars classes I need I will heavily consider doing this if it is allowed.

i decided to start my transfer journey at smc to transfer to a uc or csu. after finishing up my first year at a csu, i realized it wasn’t for me and really want to transfer to another school for engineering. after doing hours of research and speaking to a counselor over the phone, im still quite confused on the process, especially the classes i need to take and when to take them. im familiar with igetc and assist. org, just confused on when to enroll for which classes. i have majority of the GEs done, so i just need the major prep courses and would like to complete them by spring 2024 to transfer to a uni as a junior standing. if anyone has successfully transferred to a school (engineering major or any major) and knows the process on how to schedule classes for summer/fall/spring, could you help me?

I was adding a class on Consair Connect (ACCTG10) and it let me not only add the class but took me all the way to the pay page where I had to make the payment.

This is a first for me bc at my previous college if you hadn't done the pre-reqs you wouldn't even be able to add the class

Which led to me thinking, are the pre-reqs required because why did it even let me pay for a class for which I havent completed my pre-req?
