Everyday single day there is a post in this subreddit about Financial Aid... “When am I getting my grants?” “Where is my disbursement?” “Has anybody received their grant payment?”
If you want to make survive at a 4-year university, or life in general, YOU MUST LEARN HOW TO BE RESOURCEFUL! Not everybody is going to hold your hand and walk you through everything!!! Use the same internet that you use to post these questions on Reddit to do some research!
SEND THIS POST TO ANYBODY WHO POSTS A FINANCIAL AID RELATED QUESTION
For Financial Aid Deadlines:
Regarding the Pell Grant, you get disbursed 1/4 of each payment twice a semester, and by the end of the school year you would received the full amount. The 2nd disbursement is after the Census date, meaning that if you added or dropped any classes since the first disbursement, it might increase or decrease your disbursement (depending on how many units you have by the Census date).
If you didn’t get your disbursement and/or still need support, did you know that SMC actually has a Financial Aid office that specializes in everything that pertains to Financial Aid!😱
I suggest you go to the Financial Aid office in person, they rarely ever have a line.
Office Hours Mondays: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Fridays: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
If you can’t go in person, join the Qless line and wait for your turn.
QLess Hours Mondays: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Fridays: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
If you can’t do that, send an email and include your SMC ID: financialaid@smc.edu
For Cal Grant disbursements and SSCG related questions and concerns, here is who to contact:
Cesar Casillas Phone: 310-434-4536 Email: casillas_cesar@smc.edu
For Cal Grant Verifications/Approval:
California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) Phone: 888-224-7268 Email: Don’t waste your time, just call them.
In addition, ALL SMC STUDENTS have a designated Financial Aid Counselor. Your Financial Aid Counselor is based on the first letter of your last name:
Taryn De La Rosa Initials: A, B, C, D, E Phone: 310-434-4401 Email: De_La_Rosa_Taryn@smc.edu
Madalene Esquivias Initials: F, G, H Phone: 310-434-4343 Email: Esquivias_Madalene@smc.edu

Connie Chen Initials: S, T, U, V Phone: 310-434-4107 Email: Chen_Connie_P@smc.edu
I didn’t see a counselor for students with initials W, X, Y & Z, so contact a Financial Aid Specialist in-person, via Qless, or by email.
There you have it folks! All the information I provided you is directly from the SMC Financial Aid website or by contacting Financial Aid Specialists in-person, via Qless, or by email.
If you have any further questions, contact Financial Aid.

currently taking anatomy w prof grant. hes enjoyable, i have an a.
in spring, im planning to take phys3 but am unsure of whether to take perkins or wissmann.
i would take it with grant but the class starts at 7:45 am which is a little early imo. + it clashes with my schedule. unfortunately, i only have pretty much 1 option for my two other classes so i can’t change that around unless a new class listing pops up.
any suggestions or comments would be appreciated! even if its reccomending other physio profs, go ahead
For anyone wondering — My financial aid portal updated this morning showing my 2nd Pell disbursement as well SEOG Grant to be disbursed on 11/06.
Also received an email from Financial Aid saying that if you do not see an update on yours by next Tuesday to give them a call.
Hi everyone,
I am currently looking at what science class I should take for the winter or spring semester to complete my IGETC requirements. I am not science-y and study online.
Does anyone have any recommendations about what science classes are worth taking online? I was eyeing astronomy, geology and botany, but if you have any advice please let me know. Also, if you have some good professors to recommend, feel free to write that down too.
Thank you very much :)
I have to take polsc 31 next semester and I saw that there is only 3 professors available so I was just wondering which out of the 3 would be the best recommendation.
I checked rate my professor but I don’t really know. Any recommendations?

Hi what does “Staff” mean for instructor??
My daughter started cosmetology and fashion school at SMC, and decided after a year not to pursue either. She has all the supplies and textbooks, and they are only gently used. Please respond if you have any interest.
i just got a disbursement date for the rest of my federal pell grant but still nothing for cal grant b and sscg, is this the same for anyone else?
Hi! I’m new to LA/SMC and have been dying to find a job where students work around here to make some friends. Anyone work somewhere that’s hiring? My current job I have no contact with anyone so it’s made finding community much different here.
hey, i’m anxious abt my refund and funds on my smc account, should i transfer it to an existing bank account? will it affect my next disbursement if i transfered all my funds from smc card?
By the end of this fall semester i'll have about 18 credits, if i'm looking to transfer to a four year next year I want to maximize the amount of credits I can get. I'm already planning on taking classes during the breaks, and maybe some at a different cc. I've also heard that the counselors sometimes make exceptions and allow you to take extra units? Also if anybody knows any programs/good counselors to talk to/workshops OR any tips or advice at all please let me know. I'm really lost and will honestly take any feedback
Who is a really good at teaching elementary statistics (Math 54) at SMC?
I dropped Professor Mario Martinez because he wasn’t the right professor for me and I didn’t like his teaching style, but I still need to retake elementary statistics in order to transfer.
Any suggestions/recommendations?
