TL;DR - Feel like I am so much worse than I used to be despite being the highest MMR I’ve been.
So today I hit GC2 in 2s for the 6th(ish) time. Now while that puts me in the top 1% in the world, I feel like I have a major problem.
Mechanics used to be my go to strategy to winning. Back in the day I used to stay in free play on my Xbox and just continuously practise mechanics till I had in down perfectly. This basically carried me from about D2- C3. Even when I first hit GC I would be hitting double resets and overall very impressive shots.
Then, I stopped playing. After season 7 F2P I didn’t find the game enjoyable as I had no one to play with and was finding more joy playing Fortnite.
Afterwards, I came back in season 13 where I finished C3 since I did not play THAT many games. I continued to get my GC rewards in season 14 and found an irl friend who was similar skill, maybe a bit lower.
Now, while we play ranked, I feel I don’t have that magic touch anymore, where I could find a way to score anymore. My air dribbles get saved, flicks go high and resets go wide. I struggle to properly control my flip while in the air, sometimes miserably missing the ball. I also terribly mistime, trying to read the ball off the bottom of the wall and sending myself into the opposite side of the field, leading to a 2v1.
Additionally, I am incredibly inconsistent, one game I could be playing out of my mind, to the point where my former 1800 teammate (dropped due to hard reset) thought I was in a similar position as him despite 1500 being my most active range. Next game? Spending 5 additional seconds reversing into boost, so I don’t get back in time, causing a goal.
I don’t know how to fix my problem, maybe it might be my mindset and I am burning out, but I need help.

I was finally able to finish level 1 of Neon Rings map after a few days of learning DAR. It doesn't seem like much but it's honest work. I had a few questions about DAR still tho
Thanks in advance!
Should I leave it where it is or set it to something different? Silver 3-Gold 1 is my rank
I was lucky enough to get recommended a nice little video of Football Players Explain Their Iconic Goals! on my YouTube feed and I wanted to share this. I found the explanations to be relatable and applicable to Rocket League. For example, as someone who favours game sense over flashy mechanics, the first goal on this list is exemplary of a player who bides his time for the right moment compared to one who rushes towards the play. Enjoy the watch and hope you guys gain something from it as well.
Hey everybody. I’ve come to realize my game sense was holding me back major. I made a couple minor improvements to my rotations and play and all of a sudden started stomping and shot up a whole rank.
However I still find myself getting BLOWN out every couple games. Here is the most recent game I played. I’m looking for some advice to help with my game sense. The mechanics will come but I feel like I can make better decisions in game.
I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but it might help some of you out there who are working hard and seeing no progress, or perhaps just feeling like you're sitting and fighting against a figurative brick wall that never seems to budge.
Approximately two months ago, I decided to quit the game for good. I felt that I was finished; I had invested hundreds of hours in training, yet it seemed that no matter what I did, I just couldn't achieve my goals. It felt as though I had reached my own ceiling, and that grand champion title was simply too far out of reach for me, especially whilst working a full time job and not having the time to commit to the game like I used too.
For context, I finally hit GC for the first time back in Season 13 after being stuck in C2/C3 for several seasons. Reaching GC was a feeling of euphoria that was short-lived. I lost the rank and found myself on the border between C3 and GC1. I cannot count the number of times I was promoted to GC1 only to be demoted back to C3, which was incredibly frustrating. What I failed to recognize was the improvements I was making; I was so blinded by the validation of a rank and title so much so that it ultimately led me to quit the game altogether.
Recently, I began to reflect on the game I used to love and how I became so obsessed with ranking up that it was all I truly cared about. I wasn't having fun; I was merely trying to force my way into a rank I did not deserve.
Today, I re-downloaded the game, and everything felt alien to me. The game seemed remarkably different, but I was enjoying myself the game playing for the first time in years. I didn't care if I won or lost I just wanted to play, my mechanics may have been much less consistent, but my decision-making was sharp. I found ways to score that I had never considered before, supported my teammates instead of blaming them for my mistakes, and I was no longer overcommitting in pursuit of that cross-map wonder goal or chaining unnecessary flip resets.
This entire ordeal taught me that I was actually suffering from burnout. I had become addicted to the validation of achieving a higher rank, and I realized I wasn't having fun like I used to. That mindset of constantly chasing a rank was detrimental to my gameplay. Sometimes, you just need to take a step back and be kinder to yourself. Remember, it's just a game, and it was designed to be fun. So, don't beat yourself up over the little things and just enjoy yourself. See you all on champions field!

This will probably be the 1001 post on DAR, but I feel like I need help.
Well, I've been learning DAR for a few months now and I've made really big progress compared to when I started. Nothing really made sense to me at first, but now I've at least got the hang of it. I can tell by the fact that I no longer need half an hour to complete the first few rings on a ring map, but can do a whole map in that time. Of course, this isn't anything special, which is why I'm writing this post.
My problem is that I (probably) understand DAR well enough to make it through a ringmap, but I'm still too bad at DAR to really use it productively in a game.
A few things I've noticed myself.
I only make adjustments when I need to and I often have to wait until I have “a whole turn”, but that's enough in a ringmap scenario to complete it.
I think you eventually get used to certain procedures and stick to them, even if there are probably more efficient ways.
My main points are as follows:
is it really a good decision to play ringmaps to really fully understand DAR? (Considering that you just don't have to master DAR to play through a ringmap and you might not improve anymore without realizing it, which probably happened to me lately)
have I acquired bad habits? (See gameplay)
is it a good thing to only make adjustments when necessary or should you make very small adjustments much more often? (I have the feeling that you will have less blackouts if you adjust more often)
I'm sure I've forgotten something in this post, but for now these are my main issues.
I'm really enjoying this whole learning process of getting better and better at a skill that once seemed so far away and I'm open to all kinds of criticism and help.
Thanks to everyone in this subreddit who takes the time to help others! :)
I was told to come here and ask this question. If you are using one of these controllers which one is it and how has it held up?
am i going too slow or too fast for progression
This is one of three-consecutive losses I took before I got off Rocket League today. This one was actually the one I took to start the streak.
I want to know what I’m missing, what can I do better to prevent such a high score line?
Apologies for the choppy replay, I’m on console and I’m not exactly sure how to properly record and download my replays.
I was diamond 3 div 2 here. lost this one and lost my mind. kept playing and ended up on a 6 game losing streak. now im diamond 2 div 3, if i lose another game im down to div 2.
I have watched so many speed flip videos and still can't do one consistently. I'm using the directional air roll method (air roll right specifically), and I've only hit the ball 3 times including the one you see in the video. I'm also not sure how I am flip canceling too slow. my dodge dead zone is 0.50 and controller dead zone is 0.08 and putting them to the lowest I still cannot hit the ball. If someone can find out what I am doing wrong, please let me know.
I have played with my boost bound to circle and jump bound to X (PS5) since I first started playing. I can still keep up with fast players but it’s because I’m compensating by predicting the play quicker and being in a position to be at the ball quickly but I think rebinding my controls to where I can actually properly speed flip and fast aerial will improve my game even more.
I’m thinking about binding boost to either L1 or R1 so I can hit boost and jump at the same time finally but I have my airroll left and right bound to those buttons(I don’t use regular air roll).
Looking for advice from anybody else who switched because they struggled to fat finger jump and boost and what would be a good option and how to make the adjustment as simple as possible.
Hello dear KBM players. Which bindings do you use for looking around the field?
Starting to think that all the guides on decision making and hearing people’s reasoning on why they’re committing to certain plays is totally useless.
I was playing 1v1 late last night and was basically drive challenging everything and it just kept working, like at every given opportunity i would just drive by the player with the ball and everyone just throws the ball away or they keep it and get themselves demoed.
And the thing i noticed is that nobody recommended this playstyle to me, i was just trying it, its like a peekaboo playstyle almost where you are constantly threatening challenges no matter where the opponent is, hell i was even prejumping challenges and most people say never do that. But it was working so well, i was beating guys that were gc2 and im champ 2, (just hit champ3!💪) if you wondering why i was getting those matchups its because theres tons of Smurfs late at night, usually gc2s and higher.
Like when i went against an opponent who is actually my rank, they literally got shutout and ff’d in 2 minutes. The playstyle just pisses people off harddd, and it almost entices them to overcommit, to avoid the early challenge.
I think that one thing that people need to consider is that playing slow is dangerous, it leads to easy drive challenges and demoes, and everyone in my rank and even the smurfs just think they can slow the game down when you’re literally hawking them down the whole game like theyre not just gonna get challenged.
All of this is to say that, there is definitely not a right way to play this game, i watch pros play 1v1 and they are all over the place, you got appjack who is extremely patient, and then you got diaz who just says F YOU IM SCORING😭. Like these playstyles are wildly different yet they both work, so i think you guys need to stop worrying about fitting a playstyle that other people play and instead fix your own playstyle and fine tune it. If you’re like me and literally just be annoying as possible then great, if you just play goalie training simulator all game, great, but stop doubting yourself and changing your playstyle because you dont win, your not losing because of your playstyle, your just not executing the playstyle, and improving what you already have.
I see too many people lose confidence because they miss a shot and then just completely forget their playstyle, and start overcommitting. Hell thats actually the reason i use the peekaboo playstyle, mfs get early challenged ONCE and now they just throw the ball away the rest of the game😭.
Thoughts?
Ok so seen someone used max sense for warming up and then back to the normal sense after, I would like to say this helps as it warms you up to the small movements you need, I also found it can help with figuring out how bad your stick drift is and sometimes even where or what you have to do. Cause I thought my drift wasn't too bad, but on max sense it can truly show how much it could affect you
So I've been playing this game on and off since 2015, totalling around 1100hrs game time.
I've come back after a break of around 3-4 years, and the skill gap has obviously increased massively, with people pulling off shots that were never seen previously.
I'm managing to hold a rank of Champion 1/2 in doubles, but I'm definitely not as mechanically skilled as the rest of the player base around the same rank.
Basically, my entire rank is based on gamesense, and just putting myself into good positions. My accuracy is decent, as is my defence, but I don't know how to do any of the higher level mechanics. I can half flip, though I forget to do this most of the time under pressure of an actual game. I can aerial, but not the best at dragging it into the goal.
I can't: Speed flip, Flip reset, Musty, Any of the flicks, Roof shot.
Which mechanic would be the most efficient for me to learn first?
I'm about 30 hours into using DAR, not great at it yet.
Right now I'm trying to learn and get consistent with my flip cancels, but I find it incredibly difficult to get a clean front or backflip cancel without my car turning part-way through. Do you guys have any tips for flip cancels?
I also have a controller deadzone of 0.05 as I find it makes my car feel quicker and more responsive. I was wondering if that might have anything to do with it, and also if that might make any other mechanics else more difficult.
Hi everyone, I have some wrist and forearm pain caused by gripping the controller too tightly while I play. My goal is to hold the controller more lightly. The problem is that once the game gets close or more intense I totally forget to lighten my grip and I end up death gripping the controller while I focus as hard as I can on the game.
Does anyone have suggestions for exercises I can do so that I remain relaxed even in tense situations?
Every time there is some downtime in the game I’ll bring my focus back to my body, take a few deeper breaths, drop my shoulders and release the tension in my hands. This is good but once the stress comes back I tense up again. Is it just a matter of reminding myself more frequently? What else can I try?
I also posted this to the mindfulness subreddit.
Did rocket league break musty's speedflip test? the ball goes in random directions and the time seems to just jump to 10 seconds sometimes.
Hey guys, Im currently on my 3rd controller, Ive been really milking them as much as I can but honestly its annoying to keep buying a new one, I saw that there are modules that I can solder on and fix the drift by having Hall Effects or other solutions, besides that, is there a controller that is like the PS4 contorller which you guys can suggest? I have an 8bitdo Ultimate but its not as comfortable for me, I like the smaller size more.
Thanks.

Ok first of all, sorry English is not my first language so I will do my best to explain. I stopped playing 2 years ago when I peaked D3 and back then I was training a lot of freeplay and packs, I started playing again a month ago and after getting confortable with the game, I can feel that something is off with my aerials in game. In training packs I kind of do well depending on the shot but when I'm in game I miss a lot more, but more importantly, I don't have that light feeling I had once. I don't if I'm jumping too late or something we'll but it looks like I'm fighting against gravity. I remember that something clicked back then in my brain because I was watching streamers way better than me and found how to get better at this but now I can't seem to remember. It's the same aerial but they seem "less heavier than I am". Like everyone is saying that it's the same but I know it's not, I was getting of the ground more easily but my best guess is I think I was going for an aerial earlier than now. I know I'm not very clear in my question but maybe someone can relate and maybe give me some advice.
