Hey you Stygian Dogs!
Join me for a shuddery tale of dark horror and evil things, and the uncanny funeral rites over the corpse of old John Grimlan.
Featuring the investigators of the occult John Conrad and John Kirowan, Robert E. Howard’s ‘Dig Me No Grave’ appeared in the February 1937 issue of ‘Weird Tales’.
To celebrate spooky season and the renewed interest in these characters (thanks to Jim Zub’s ‘Battle of the Black Stone’ mini-series), I offer you a reading of Howard’s story contrasted with Roy Thomas’ comic book adaptation from the 1972 Issue #1 of ‘Journey into Mystery’. Thomas’ 8-page story features the art of Gil Kane and Tom Palmer.
Is there any connect in Howard's stories between Conan and el Borak?
The Siege of Lamakan by James Lovegrove is reviewed. Some jokes by me that probably aren't funny, but otherwise a serious review of a likable introduction of El Borak to the Heroic Legends e-book series. https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/09/24/review-el-borak-the-siege-of-lamakan-by-james-lovegrove
Conan fanfic books, The Return of Akivasha and The Scions of Ymir are discussed. Two books you most likely never heard of and will never read, https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/09/20/two-knockoffs-the-return-of-akivasha-and-the-scions-of-ymir/
Akivasha was in a Conan novel and a Kull movie. Sprague de Camp letter. Gaming stats by Vincent Darlage. Check it out. https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/09/13/akivasha-i-am-the-woman-who-never-died/
Back in 1983, Universal Studios put on a Conan stage show. Sprague was among the attendees, Photos from their visit and an article by Catherine de Camp. Fun stuff from the days when Sword & Sorcery made it to Hollywood. https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/09/06/the-adventures-of-conan-a-sword-and-sorcery-spectacular/
Hi all!
Hoping to find someone in the know: I have a complete set of first edition REH Foundation books, but I see they're being re-released; however, I can't seem to find whether or not tje books contain new material (forwards/research, stories, fragments) besides the cover art. Does anyone here know?
Thanks!
Vincent Darlage reviews Conan: City of the Dead by John Hocking. Not just a review, we have gaming stats for the Emerald Lotus and thoughts (and photos) of a new Hyborian Age map. Check it out. https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/08/27/john-c-hockings-conan-city-of-the-dead/
Vincent Darlage returns as guest blogger to review REH's Tales of Weird Menace. Includes cover and illustration scans from the first appearance of these stories. This is a good look at REH output that gets little attention normally. I welcome guest bloggers: reviews of REH, de Camp, Lin Carter, and S&S all welcome. (Guest blogger Frank Coffman was nominated for REH Foundation Award this year. Give guest blogging a try!) https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/08/22/review-tales-of-weird-menace-by-robert-e-howard/
More detailed review for this e-book. The Halls of Immortal Darkness isn't bad, just too routine. Some attempt at humor on my part during the review. https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/08/20/review-conan-the-halls-of-immortal-darkness-by-laird-barron/
This is not just a review. I've included a "Style Sheet" for Conan writers that de Camp prepared during the Bantam Conan period. It is still relevant today. Check it out. It is of interest. https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/08/16/the-bantam-conan-series-conan-and-the-spider-god/
Hi, I am struggling to find a kindle version of the Conan stories. Seems a lot of the “complete” versions are incomplete, poorly formatted and/or in the wrong order. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.
Article on the various books, comics, and a cartoon that featured REH as a character in a fictional work. Everything I know about is covered. Try to see if I left out something! https://spraguedecampfan.wordpress.com/2024/08/07/robert-e-howard-in-fiction/
