Anybody know where I can drop off water donations today? TIA

Has anyone besides me noticed that this store is really getting run down lately? Not the usual level of suckiness, but entirely new depths. I was in there Friday evening (10/04), and shelves were empty. I know there was some storm hoarding going on, but the toilet paper was totally out, like pandemic level. Most disgusting thing was the chicken for sale. This was one of the things they weren’t out of.

The 9th Annual Star City Strongman is part of StrongFest in Elmwood Park tomorrow. One of the athletes is from the Johnson City TN area that was hit hard by the recent devastating hurricane. She has brought a covered trailer to take supplies back home to many in need.

Bring any donations you have and drop them at the Welcome Tent during the festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a free wellness festival and strength expo supporting the Partnership for Community Wellness.

Suggested items include: Water, dry goods, shovels, diapers/wipes, plasticware, formula, bungee cords, cleaning supplies, empty buckets, flash lights, batteries, soap, towels, wash cloths, medical supplies, school supplies, can openers, hair brushes, snacks (for snack bags), feminine products, sleeping bags, lanterns, propane, charcoal, lighters, gloves, paper towels, dog food., tooth brushes/tooth paste.

Hey! My wife's 40th bday is in two weeks and we were originally supposed to go to Asheville to celebrate (we live in SE NC). Obviously that's off the table and we're looking for a substitute vacation spot. We saw on the Roanoke page that y'all are in pretty good condition. So my questions are: Cool in two weekends to come you think, and since parkway is closed is there some cool outdoor stuff for us and our dog to do? What area of town should we look to book in? What is the best place for the younger crowd downtown for Halloween in Roanoke.

I’ve been into art since I was a kid and it’s my biggest passion, I’m looking to try to get more involved in the art community if there is one in the area. I have an instagram account dedicated to my art but it is not popular and I’m getting better at actually regularly posting @angoverart. I am looking to see if there are any art markets or events that I could sell my art at possibly? I’ve looked into the comic con but they don’t have a lot of info listed on the website that I could find. I mainly am a digital artist, working with fantasy related artworks and fanart. Any helpful advice would be amazing thank you!

If Joe Cobb is elected Mayor - what happens to his City Council seat? Will City Council appoint someone to fill what is left of his term (2 years)? Will whomever comes in 4th get the seat? Or will they hold a special election?

I've seen nothing that discusses how this will be handled.

I'm from Roanoke Virginia but I am currently halfway across the country right now working a flagging job. The stop sign dude job. I am in Las Vegas right now and I have to have my drivers license for this job. My drivers license expires this month on my birthday and the DMV is telling me to drive all the way back to Virginia. Because, they won't take an online payment? If I have to drive all the way back to Virginia. I'm losing money and I will be FIRED from the job.

But I was reading about the Muse brothers, and I had thought it had said they were from Roanoke, when I had read about them before, but they were actually from Truvine, which was described as a "rural enclave." I was just wondering if it still exists? Or was it absorbed by nearby towns? There was a youtube video posted in 2016 that mentioned it existing (barely), but am unsure if that was current to the time, and things can change a lot in 8 years. Thanks in advance! Been living in Roanoke for a few years now and still haven’t really met a lot of queer folks other than a small handful through work. I’m aware of The Park, but have not been, my work schedule conflicts with pretty much every event they have. Are there any other venues or events to check out?

I'm visiting this month to do some hiking. We've never been, so we'll probably do the more popular hikes in the area (definitely McAfee's Knob, debating between Flat Top, Sharp Top, and Dragon's Tooth for other options). What are the odds of seeing an interesting wildlife while on our hikes? I hike with a real camera and am debating if it's worth bringing my 100-400 mm zoom lens for wildlife with me. (It's not exactly light, and I once hauled it on a 14 mile hellish hike out West and didn't see anything more exciting than a ground squirrel...)
