Debbie Henry sang as if the rent was two months past due! Some singers, like Fantasia and Jazmine, have backup singers who can go, too. But I don't think I've ever seen a background singer get the spotlight and do what Ms. Debbie did!
Many people can agree that this genre has been on a downfall for years now but why? Is it a simple answer or does it require more variables and nuance?
And if you think it's dying, can it be saved with the artist we got?
If so, what are some of your favorite house remixes of r&b songs?
What I love about this album is how much she leaned into R&B and Hip-Hop samples. My favorite song is the remix to "Thank God I Found You", which interpolated Keith Sweat's "Make It Last Forever". I also love "Crybaby" with Snoop Dogg (which sampled Guy's "Piece of My Love" and Toto's "Georgy Porgy"), "How Much" with Usher (which flipped 2Pac's "Me and My Girlfriend"), and "Did I Do That?" (which covered Silkk the Shocker's "It Ain't My Fault")! Add in Stacy Lattisaw's "Attack of the Name Game" on "Heartbreaker" with Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg's "Ain't No Fun" on the remix with Da Brat and Missy Elliott, plus Kandi writing "X-Girlfriend" and Jam & Lewis producing/writing "Bliss" and "Petals", I feel like this album could have done even better within the R&B community if the label actually marketed the album.
The scenes where they have the umbrellas were are just so 👌🏾 to me. Love this song and video
Note, this is my upload as I tried my best to remaster it
