City Riga of Latvia, Europe's capital of culture 2014, for centuries has been significant economical and cultural center since 13th century and has survived historical crossroads of superpowers, was member of Hansetic league, home for Teutonic order, housed World's first decorated Christmas tree and now it is one of the greenest capital cities of Europe, capital of Romantic Art-nouveau (Jugendstil) and is UNESCO World Heritage site. Now it is under massive maintenance and will be ready in 2014 to be Europe's capital of culture!
Also we have many awesome neighbors in Estonia and Lithuania

Hello,
I am considering purchasing an apartment at Ģertrūdes 103 in Riga. Before making a decision, I am conducting some research and would appreciate any information about this building.
If you live there or know someone who does, or if you have insights regarding the building’s maintenance and overall condition, I would be grateful for your input.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Hi! I've been living in Riga for a very short time, and I'm not familiar with the stores that locals usually shop at! I've already discovered physical stores like Pepco and Jysk, which are amazing, but now I'm looking for recommendations for online stores.
I was also advised to use Amazon.de for shopping, and it worked great! I've already purchased items online that arrived at my address without any issues.
Now, I'm looking to buy a new phone. My question is: Is it possible to find better prices in physical stores or online stores here in Riga? Is there a noticeable price difference? Would you recommend buying electronics online or in physical stores?
Lastly, which online stores are the most reliable?
Thank you so much for your help! 😊

Hello, I am a Danish exchange student, I am so lucky that' I am going to study in Riga this spring, but I have a problem. I will be arriving in Ventspils this Sunday morning with the ferry from Sweden, and I am bringing my little dog (8 kg, and she is in a crate), and she is not allowed with the bus, so if anyone know where I can find a ride? I will off course pay.
I tried a Facebook group Riga-Ventspils-Riga, but they haven't accepted my application to join. I do have a backup plan with Citybee, but I can't be sure there will be any available cars in Ventspils this Sunday.
Anyone local can recommend any goid spa or sauna?
Evening :)
I am thinking about visiting Riga in mid/late may, for about a week or so on vacation.
Have heard a lot about the city, and surely want to see it - but i dont want to spend days just wandering about and relaxing :)
I am generally interested in things like: The cold war / USSR, aviation / space, cars / trains - some have described it as "nerded things" :) So art museums and such, are not really my thing.
I have found these things, that i believe could be fun to watch:
KGB Museum
Museum of the Occupation of Latvia
Latvian War Museum
Riga Motormuseum
Riga Radio and TV Tower
Soviet Bunker in Līgatne (possible to visit)?
What are you thoughts on these? Have i missed something? :)
Would you recommend staying at the old city, or is this a tourism trap by now?

I have found it fitting to return to pop the question! I am also flying out her best friend and partner to add to the occasion and will meet them straight after I pop the question. We have spoke many times about going back but never came to fruition. Does anyone have any ideas of places to pop the question… 😂
