This is a catch-all forum for those riding motorcycles in and around NYC
Ride in NYC? Ride around here? Like wasting too much time at work on Reddit AND you ride?
Check yourself in. Its like a mental institution, you can try to leave, but the drugs we feed you probably mean the door's going to look like the gates of Mordor.

Is it possible some one can get your full name from your license plate and information?
Hello, I just received the pink criminal court summons for loud exhaust / unnecessary noise today. I was wondering what the process looks like and whether to plead guilty or not. Im trying to see what to expect when I get there later this month. The court is 1 centre in lower Manhattan. I'm unfamiliar so trying to see other people's past experiences.
Back story: I was in Times Square I was stuck in traffic for 3 lights because of traffic. So I was trying to reverse so I can go through around the traffic, I was revving my engine so people are aware that I’m trying to backup. ( To clarify I wasn't revv bombing ) I also just received the motorcycle the same day, after they did a engine rebuild so the engine sounded louder than it usually did.
I don’t want to pay $400 for an MSF course so I was wondering if I could buy a motorcycle and ride it with only the permit so I can practice for the test that way. I know you need a licensed rider to be 1/4 a mile close to you to be able to ride alone with a permit but I’m 22 so does that rule still apply to me?
Also let’s say I do the MSF course and pass, do I need to wait 6 months after getting my permit to be able to obtain my license or does that not apply to me since I’m 22. (Sorry if these are dumb questions I’m not familiar with the licensing process for motorcycles)
Edit: BTW I was never planning on riding illegally, hence why I asked in the first place. It would have been nice to get an actual answer to my questions instead of “If yOu CaNt affOrD 400 BLAH BLAH”(thanks to the one person that did answer) but yes I do understand it’s probably a very dumb and irresponsible idea to ride with zero experience which is why I will be taking the MSF course.
Wondering if it’s worth riding at all that day. Everything I’ve read about gridlock is from car drivers. Wondering if it’s still easy for us to lane split and zip through all the traffic or if it’s still hellish even for us.
Anybody got a motorcycle jack I could borrow in bedstuy, doing some gasket work and just need to get my rear tire off the ground to turn the motor over
I can’t wait to collect them all /s
So far I’ve gotten (over about 4 years)
I’m probably lucky with how few tickets I have gotten, but just curious what else to look forward to
Hi all, brand new bike (softail standard) 4 weeks in - so of course the garage door closed automatically on my rear fender - in fairness I shouldn’t have assumed it would stop. Thankfully no massive damage but rear fender needs a repaint and the plastic housing the rear license plate holder needs replacing. Any rec’s for reliable place to take it to be healed?
As the title says, I am looking for areas with relatively low traffic, non-residential (or as little as possible), and lots of nature and twisty roads for aerial filming up to 2 hours away from SI.
While the base plan is to have my drone follow me around for some fall riding footage, if anyone is interested in joining in, you would be helping me hone in my skills for my upcoming part 107 exam and I would gladly bring my DSLR for ground pictures as well. No charge since I am an amateur but no promises of awesome pictures either.
I’m looking to upgrade to a ZX6R soon and won’t have comprehensive insurance as it would cost the price of the bike in just a year. I won’t be able to street park anymore due to this, does anyone know garages in or around washington heights where I could set up at?
My buddy is coming to visit and I wanted to take him on a tour around the city. He’s driving his car up with his GF so he can’t bring his motorcycle. Is there anywhere we can do this?
Hi all I been extremely interested in motorcycles. Hoping I could own one and also learn a trade on working on motorcycles. Does anyone know any trades in nyc that do motorcycle mechanic work ?
Hey All,
As riding season is coming to an end shoot me a note if you're looking to sell your Ninja 400 rather than put it in storage :)
Looking for:
- 2020 or later
- 1st or 2nd owner
- Under 5k miles
- Close to stock
- **Well maintained with clean, stock fairings**
- Prefer black or green
- Clean title and registration in your name
Thought i would ask here in case anyone is on the fence about selling at the end of the season.
Cheers
Mark
How can I prevent theft my biggest concern tell me why it worth it though
I walked Long Island City over the weekend and all the storage places said they don't take motorcycles anymore
I think there is one in the South Bronx (CubeSmart on 135th Street) that looks good but curious if you've had any luckk other than schlepping to Westchester?
I work at a store on the ground floor on the upper west side (on Broadway). The side walks are huge! Can I park my R6 on the side walk chained and covered under a tarp?
Someone has my plate number on my scooter and i got a camera speed ticket. How can i dispute this?
Hello everyone,
Some friends and I are riding out to Supercharged Entertainment in Edison, NJ to race some karts tonight. It's always more fun with a bigger group so inviting any and all to ride out with us there. Here's the link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UT7qeTXGxfBWKA8S6
We are meeting up at and leaving from Rucker Park (W 155 St & Frederick Douglass Blvd) between 6:30-7p. DM me for more details.
Its my first time entering the cold seasons with a motorcycle
Just curious lolz
Rode out to Port Washington and back. A whopping 37.5 miles. Whoever dropped me a biker wave on Northern Boulevard, I appreciated it. Felt like a boss 🤣
Luckily I felt the case hit me when it plopped out. Remember to close your bags people. Don’t be dumb like me.
Hi There,
I am buying my first bike having passed my MSS and done a few lessons out on the road.
I have been digging through Facebook marketplace and it's like the Wild, Wild West. Anyone who would mind giving an opinion on what looks legit, would be greatly appreciated.
Primary concern is resale value as this is a first bike to run around the city and want something I am not going to cry about when it gets pushed over / ends up in an insurance claim so aiming for $4k-$6k. Bike will be kept Upper Eastside under a cover but street parked... yes I know it will likely disappear.
I am looking for something with under 5k miles and newer than 2020 that has been well maintained. 44 years old and 6ft2 so leaving towards a Ninja 400, 650, Z650. Trident 660s also look great value used.
Cheers

2015 cbr 600rr stolen from the front of my house this morning. Stolen around 8am in brooklyn. Bike is matte black, full carbon tail, carbon engine cover, Carbon swingarm cover (not shown in picture). Has ding on right brake lever. Cash reward if found, any info is appreciated.
I was just riding across RFK bridge going into manhattan and there were at least 20 cops waiting after you cross the toll cameras. I currently don’t have a plate and they didn’t even attempt to stop me but i did see a few of what seemed to be confiscated bikes and mopeds on the shoulder. Just be ware and if anyone has any insight it would be appreciated.
I need to get my bike inspected and an oil change. The only issue I have is it has leo vince slip on. Will that be an issue? I am the second owner and it came like that from the first owner. I don't have the OEM exhaust with me
Anyone hear anything about a rider going down yesterday on the Clearview? I drove past the accident and saw the bike and the rider being attended to by the FDNY.
Anyone work or park near Hudson Yards and have any tips for someone riding in for the day? I'm looking to park on the street but would consider the sidewalk or the edge of a no parking zone that doesn't get hassled.
