I recently completed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course and obtained my certificate. Intending to upgrade my Class D license to include a motorcycle endorsement, I attempted to schedule the Motorcycle Learner Permit Test via the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYS DMV) website. However, upon logging into my account, the system indicates that I have fulfilled all requirements for the Car Learner Permit, with the only available option being to reschedule.

Given that I passed the car learner permit test approximately one month ago, I am uncertain whether I need to retake the test to proceed with adding the motorcycle permit. Additionally, I prefer to complete the process online, but the system does not permit me to do so. Would creating a new NYS DMV account resolve this issue, or is there an alternative solution?

I appreciate any guidance on how to effectively navigate this process.

It’s that time of the year when batteries run low due to cold weather and underuse and was wondering if y’all had recommendations on portable battery packs for jumpstarting the bike if away from outlets (I have a battery tender but needs an outlet).

Also, does your recco work for both Acid/Lithium batteries or just one of either?

I got an insurance ticket with 50 dollars fine and 88 dollars surcharges was driving someone else bike for just an hour . I read online that insurance tickets generally cost $150-1500 followed by suspension . But my ticket is showing $0 suspension fee . I just want my license to not be suspended. Have anyone else paid similar fine and didn’t get suspension?

Would you interpret this as saying vehicles can ride in this lane? Had a lady turn left here from the middle lane past the cones. Her insurance said i was at fault because my lane had exhaust cones indicating the lane is closed at the intersection.

Hey all, I'm a new rider based in NYC looking to purchase a first bike. Been mostly looking for used / private seller on FB Marketplace, but also open to exploring dealership options (though very warily).

I've read mixed reviews on Brooklyn Mayd on this subreddit with most of the negative comments being about expensive service / maintenance, but not much on actually buying a bike from there. Anyone have experience buying a bike there and could let me know what it was like? Including if you purchased used/new, the make, and what the add-on fee structure was like.

I took and passed the permit test last week, and intend to do some kind of riding school next year. I got an email to prepare for my next DMV appointment by bringing in the originals of all submitted documents and getting the photo taken., though I'm wondering since I have an enhanced driver's license if they'd just use the information and photo they already have on file.

For those who use an EZ-Pass without a fairing, where do you keep it? I've seen little bags mounted onto the forks but don't know if it will get picked up. And no, I do not want to hide my plate lol

Just finished a fresh top end rebuild on my bike and was just wondering how and where would be the best tactic on breaking in the engine here in the city or even a bit out to Long Island, given that that here it’s a lot of stop and go traffic so doesn’t really give me the opportunity to try to seal piston rings. hello everyone,

i was in an accident on my bike (2024 striple) and broke both my wrists. i hit one of the divets on the verrazano bridge construction which forced me to jerk right and rear end another vehicle so i assume it will go down as my fault?

what does no fault mean? am i entitled to any damages for my broken wrists? i dont even know where to start reading or asking. can anyone point me in the right direction?

As the season approaches (hopefully starts getting cooler). What slopes do yall hit? I’ve become very comfortable with blues so will try blacks this season. Have been driving for the past few seasons but would love to ride out there (weather permitting)

Fairly new rider here, I was riding on the belt parkway and was able to filter carefully at certain spots when traffic slows down, but towards the Verrazano the lanes narrow so much (westbound especially) it seems nearly impossible to safely split - especially with all the road surface issues (cracks, bumps affecting control at low speed).

It’s difficult to maintain a space cushion as well, since any gap invites drivers to cut in.

Any tips for navigating through tight traffic on the belt and managing aggressive drivers?

Congestion pricing is being brought back to life with a $9 toll for “non-commercial passenger vehicles” and supposed to start in January 2025. This is cheaper for cars (previously at $15) but it looks like they’ve dropped the lower toll structure for motorcycles that was previously carried. Originally motorcycles were meant to pay 1/2 the $15 toll, or $7.50. Am I reading the new proposal correctly in that we’re getting charged the same $9 as cars now with the new rules?

Like the title says, is anyone missing an adventure sports bike, possibly a GS? I couldn't 100% ID it, but I saw a large blue adventure sports bike next to a fleet of mopeds parked in front of a shelter. I considered that it may belong to someone who lives in the shelter, but the bike looks pretty expensive, so I doubt it would belong to anyone there. And I doubt an employee at the shelter would intentionally park their bike in the middle of 8 other mopeds. If you or anyone you know wants more information DM for the specific location.

Is there anywhere I can rent a motorcycle in nyc (5 boroughs) Long Island or even NJ. I want to ride one occasionally but I don’t want to buy one. Is there an online place or physical store where I can rent one for a few hours one day? Thanks.
