This is a catch-all forum for those riding motorcycles in and around NYC
Ride in NYC? Ride around here? Like wasting too much time at work on Reddit AND you ride?
Check yourself in. Its like a mental institution, you can try to leave, but the drugs we feed you probably mean the door's going to look like the gates of Mordor.

Do you pay the 8% sales tax based on the market value or the price you paid? I bought a $200 seized bike that I fixed up so do I pay 8% of $200 or whatever KBB says itās worth now? The whole thing on their website about āunder market valueā is honestly confusing. Also, if I was gifted it in exchange for services, would I pay no tax or tax on the value once again?
Can anyone recommend a good place to go to get my sportster inspected? Preferably in the Queens area. Thanks!
R3 here has been sitting for a week or two, drivers have been dragging it so they could park their cars. It had a ticket, candy wrappers all over it. Looks like the fairing was removed since the last time I saw it.
Woodside between 58 & 57.
Looking for good insurance full coverage !
Itās happened to me a few times and itās unsettling and flattering at the same time I guess? Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how youāve reacted
New Yorks Finest Taxi Service
I bought a honda Navi. Im struggling with u turns and figure 8. My road test is on the 18th. Riding on the street is not a problem. These slow speed manuevers for the road test are the problem.
Iām shaking with anger right now. I locked my bike up at a very busy intersection. Stupidly didnāt put on lock. Two minutes before I come back some clown just yanks the bars breaking the lock and pushes it off. At least itās insured.
Reward for stomping the asshat who did this.
Iām looking for a mechanic that sells his own trust worthy bikes that I can buy one from for my first bike any one out here in nyc?
I was hoping to start a thread to alert us fellow riders of police activity so we know what and where to lookout. Where/time/etc. We get lumped into this new 90 day task force for ghost plates , bikes, and taxis so maybe we can help each other out.
and if you are, will you win fighting this in court.
Are the electric scooters supposed to be registered/insured ? I thought it was for gas scooters 50 ccs and up only.
Please advice. The person doesnāt speak any English.
I got gift this helmet at work. Itās brand new. I was going to keep it to give it to someone I know but then I realize I donāt know anyone who needs an XS.
Curious if anyone here wants it and is willing to trade for some gear they donāt use or give me some cash for it
Idk what a seasoned bike thief has to do with my ugly, beat to fuck loose chained high mileage shit-horse, but enjoy my baby, you harebrained toddler.
Also to grab dinner. Keen to make the most out of the few good months we have left.
I need an inspection station with a āfriendlyā demeanor toward aftermarket exhaust pipes and other enhancements.
Brooklyn preferred but Iāll travel 5 boros.
New rider planning my first solo ride upstate this weekend.
What are some of your best routes to get out of the city?
I was thinking West Side Highway to GWB, then take the Palisades to 87N for the rest of the journey.
OR West Side Highway to Saw Mill then Taconic all the way up north.
EDIT: So I ended up taking the West Side to HHP, then the Taconic all the way up and then across the Rip Van Winkle. Great ride up, no traffic at all after I got through the West Side highway.
This person is my fav - with the nana custom windshield?
Haha love it. Felt like sharing something.
First time owning a bike in this part of the world, and this is the first time Iāll be winterizing a bike. What months do you usually put it away?
Howdy yall! Looking for a place to store my bike for winter and possibly year round if the price is right. off the Graham L stop if possible. Donāt need space for maintenance etc, will take care of that at home.
ride safe!
So I went ahead and checked the TST website and they do warn buyers that their plate holders arenāt DOT approved. Which sucks cause I didnāt install it, previous bike owner did. I never got the stock one.
The TST mount I have isnāt designed to be a āhingedā mount. Yes, the screws used to place the plate itself onto the mount can be loosened to adjust the angle, but it has to be retightened otherwise theyāll come out. If you move the plate at all, it loosens the screws that are holding it on and then you can lose your plate (has almost happened before to me due to vibrations from my MT07), a.k.a, I canāt hide my plate while riding to avoid tolls or tickets.
And yes, the plate was fully visible when the cop pulled me over, he just saw it wasnāt the stock fender which sticks out a lot.
I have a clean record, never gotten any tickets, aside from maybe one or two speed camera tickets on my car last year, but no tickets or record with my bike (I bought it back in April).
Is it worth the hassle to fight this ticket? Technically itās a jersey ticket, happened as I was entering the tunnel from the Jersey side
specifically on broadway? didnt realize this was a thing but ive been riding on the broadway bus lane
I have a need to store my motorcycle for a week and was wondering if anyone knows of an affordable option in Brooklyn.
Thx
Holy hell it's not easy to get an inspection, eh? Went to 8 different places, some of which are on the official DMV site... "nope." "No." "Not anymore. Go to ___." Head over there, "no."
Anyway, Autologic on McDonald Ave. - "pull in." Done and done, easy. May their oil be clean and their tires always full, but not too full. Just right.
Yeah. Someone copied my plates and put them on their scooter and got busted by a speed camera going down Ocean Ave in Brooklyn. The picture is clearly not my bike and clearly not me and I wasn't even riding that day.
I'm going to fight it, but it's so weird that this happened. Has this happened to any of you?
To prefaceā¦ Iām not talking about being a dick and just rolling your bike onto any old sidewalk.
So I ride a dual sport around the city during the day. I work in real estate so Iām visiting different buildings (99% of the time in Manhattan - Midtown or high-end residential blocks) for one reason or another. About 50% of the building managers/staff tell me to park my bike up against the building on the sidewalk. The place where theyāre telling me to park is usually set back a little bit either in a little alcove or unused service door entryway, places like thatā¦ most of the time. I just had the front door valet/bell staff at the fucking Pierre Hotel tell me to park my bike up against the front 5th Ave wall of the hotel 20 feet from the main front doors.
Half the time I do it because itās easier just to park there, do what Iāve got to do and then leave. The other half of the time it just doesnāt seem smart. For no other reason besides getting some massive ticket or NYPD throwing my bike on a truck and impounding it.
Can someone just give me the real world rundown on this? What rules are just suggestions and what rules are law? If you know what I meanā¦
Edit: because I probably sound like an entitled d-bag even asking thisā¦ iām generally a rule follower, more so when it comes to motorcycles. I am a white collar worker that just so happens to like riding a motorcycle more than taking Ubers. Shit, when this happens, Iām generally in a button down shirt on my bike. So itās not like I am some dip shit out there. Probably quite the opposite, which is why Iām the nerd thatās even asking this in the first place.
I think itās finally time to get my license! Wondering what are my best options, I only have my permit for car and Motorcycle! My dad has a car but no motorcycle license either! What are my best options or how did you get yours?
Another question, can my dad drive his car and tow the motorcycle to the motorcycle to the road test appointment?
