A subreddit sharing the purpose of building a team for all of Rhode Island. What we do on and off the pitch is focused on this North Star. It's part of our culture, our language and our values. It's the inspiration for us to play a meaningful and impactful role in the community. It is the motivation for us to compete…to win…to raise trophies. It is the reason we are building a riverfront stadium in Pawtucket – a place to gather as a community and create lifelong memories.

We are anchored in RI.

Pre-Match Essential | Rhode Island FC vs El Paso Locomotive FC | Wed Jun 26, 2024 7:30 PM EST

Before Rhode Island FC's inaugural season began, the club's leadership carefully built a team to not only compete but also to engage fans with strong offensive play. Club co-founder and former professional footballer Michael Parkhurst, drawing from his experience at Atlanta United, emphasized months ago on the Raising Anchors podcast the importance of quick, frequent scoring and relentless effort in building a fan base. The club aimed to bring this dynamic to Rhode Island FC. Despite challenges in their debut season—15 matches in, or 44% of the season—the team has shown promise with diverse scorers and solid defense against tough opponents. However, issues like stamina, errors, and injuries have led to numerous draws, preventing the team from reaching its full potential. As the team has accumulated more game experience, fans have noticed a steady upward trajectory, marked by learning from each challenge. Last Saturday, against daunting odds, Rhode Island FC finally showcased its capabilities.

Louisville City FC has dominated the USL Championship this season, leading with 35 points and outscoring their closest rivals by 15 goals, while maintaining an unbeaten home record. Last Saturday's match was a classic David vs. Goliath scenario. Despite predictions that Rhode Island may be better off to concede defeat and rest starters, the team that showed up at Lynn Family Stadium embodied Rhode Island's underdog spirit—often overlooked yet resilient since the 17th century. Their defense frustrated the formidable offense, led by goalkeeper Jackson Lee, until midfielder Clay Holstad unleashed a 'Goal of the Week' screamer in the 30th min. Rhode Island kept up the pressure, ending the match with a decisive 5-2 victory, contributing a quarter of the goals LouCity has conceded all season. This was a statement game across the league: never underestimate Rhode Island.

Tomorrow, we face El Paso Locomotive FC, currently at the bottom of the USL Championship Western Conference with 12 points from 3 wins, 3 draws, and 10 losses. They're seeking a rebound after a 2-1 loss to Oakland Roots SC to begin their ascent from the Western Conference basement. Rhode Island is riding high after slaying the LouCity dragon and needs to heed the lesson of not underestimating opponents. The LouCity match felt like a turning point in our season trajectory. Let's capitalize on this momentum to ensure the Locomotives train stops at Bernie Stadium. Rhode Island FC fans are eager for our first home win. Let's make it two in a row and start climbing the table ourselves!

Time for a pulse check. Fans, we want to hear from you! What do you think of our team’s performance this season? If you're coming to the match, it's PRI**de Night, bring your colors, and let's drench Bernie in a rainbow glow as we rally behind our guys and aim for 3 points! #UpTheTide

Last week epitomized the highs and lows of fandom and illustrated just how difficult winning can be. We felt the exhilaration of leading 2-0, riding high with momentum, only to be sharply brought back to reality as things fell apart. Our captain, Koke Vegas, was delivering a Man of the Match-worthy performance, excelling both in and out of the goal. His presence as a sweeper keeper was impactful across the pitch. However, one split-second aggressive move led to his red card ejection, and the team conceded two late goals to a cold Jackson Lee, who wasn’t prepared. Koke’s rise and fall resembled the myth of Icarus, soaring high only to plummet. But he’s a professional and will learn and grow from this experience. Ultimately, that match was ours to win; but alas this 2024 season, RIFC are the DRAW KINGS.

Tomorrow, we face arguably the best team in the USL Championship: Louisville City FC. LouCity currently leads the USL Championship Eastern Conference with 35 points from 11 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses. They have scored 40 goals so far, 13 more than any other team. RIFC, sitting at 11th place with 12 points from 1 win, 9 draws, and 4 losses, has a challenging task ahead. But don’t count us out just yet. Only six matches ago, RIFC held LouCity to a 0-0 draw. Plus, LouCity is coming off a midweek game and might be fatigued, while RIFC has had a week and a half to prepare. As Lloyd Christmas famously said, ‘So you’re telling me there’s a chance’; yes, there’s a chance!

Time for a pulse check. Fans, we want to hear from you! What do you think of our team’s performance this season? Are you attending a watch party or cheering from home? Did you catch this week's Tide Talk show or participate in the Quahog Corner? Share your thoughts and let’s rally behind our team as we take on the top dogs in the USL Championship, Louisville City FC. #UpTheTide

Pre-Match Essentials | Rhode Island FC @ Memphis 901 FC | Wed Jun 12, 2024 8:00 PM EST

Hey fans, exciting news! I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be joining the Tide Talk media team, a platform dedicated to providing in-depth coverage of Rhode Island Football Club. My 'Pre-Match Essentials' posts will continue as usual, but they'll now be more widely available within the Tide Talk community. This includes some incredibly talented and dedicated individuals whom I'm honored to collaborate with. The Tide Talk motto, "for the fans, by the fans," perfectly aligns with what I've been striving for here. Exciting times ahead for RIFC supporters!

Now, turning our attention to the pitch, last week, we faced our fourth loss of the season at home against Detroit City, despite the enthusiastic support of over 4,100 fans. Detroit started the game strongly, but our goalkeeper, Koke Vegas, made several impressive saves to keep them scoreless and highlight his shot-stopping abilities. However, in the 36th minute, Detroit managed to break through on the right side and, after a quick combination play, Maximiliano Rodríguez scored the first goal. Rhode Island remained determined and dominated ball possession, but our hopes for a positive outcome were dashed in the 64th minute when Koke Vegas made a short pass to the left that was intercepted, leading to a goal by Victor Bezerra. Despite a solid effort, the second goal was another instance of the defensive mistakes that have plagued us throughout the first half of the season.

Tomorrow, get ready for some exciting Wednesday night football as we head down to Western Tennessee to take on Memphis 901 FC! Memphis 901 FC, currently eighth in the USL Championship’s Western Conference with 17 points from 5 wins, 2 draws, and 6 losses, is coming off a 1-1 draw with Colorado Springs and has drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 3 games. They’ll be eager to turn things around. Similarly, we are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference with 1 win, 8 draws (we’re the Draw Kings), and 4 losses. It’s a short week for both clubs, but everyone knows what’s at stake. Rhode Island is focused, and our players are hungry for another win and some much-needed points. Let’s show our determination and get that victory!

Time for a pulse check. Fans, we want to hear from you! What do you think of our team's performance this season? Are you heading to a watch party, or cheering from home? Share your thoughts and let's rally behind our team as we take on Memphis 901 FC. #UpTheTide

Pre-match | Rhode Island FC vs Detroit City FC | Sat Jun 8, 2024 7:30 PM EST

Last week's inaugural derby between the USL Championship's two geographically closest rivals, Rhode Island FC and Hartford Athletic, lived up to the hype. Rhode Island FC fans, led by the supporters' group Defiance 1636, made Hartford feel almost like a home match with their energetic presence, which boosted their team. Rhode Island took an early lead in the 4th minute with a perfectly timed cross from JJ Williams, skillfully finished by Mark Doyle. The first half was dynamic and saw numerous opportunities for both sides. Set pieces, which have often been problematic, featured prominently in this half with a total of seven. Hartford Athletic capitalized on one of these set pieces in the 24th minute, securing the match-tying goal.

Tomorrow, we’re back on our home turf, and tickets are selling fast! We’re expecting a full house as we take on Detroit City FC, a club renowned for its competitive edge and passionate Northern Guard Supporters. Detroit City FC currently sits sixth in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference with 17 points, coming from 5 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses. Despite their recent two-game losing streak, they're sure to be hungry for points! Although we’re currently 11th in the Eastern Conference, we’ve been consistently drawing matches, earning us the nickname "Draw Kings." We lead the league with 8 draws, meaning 67% of our games have ended in a stalemate. If we could convert some of these draws into wins, we’d be in contention for the Players' Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular-season record. We have great respect for "Le Rouge" and their community-focused ethos, but they’re in our sights for Saturday. We're determined to secure our first-ever home win. Let’s make it happen!

Hey fans, what do you think of our team's performance this season? Are you heading to Bernie Stadium for the match? Whether you’re local or cheering from afar, let’s show our support as we take on the squad from Motor City. Let's give the fans what they came for—a win and three crucial points! #UpTheTide

Pre-match | Rhode Island FC @ Hartford Athletic | Sat June 1, 2024 7:00 PM EST

Last week was phenomenal. We held offensive juggernaut Louisville City FC to a 0-0 draw, marking the first time in 15 USL Championship matches that LouCity was held scoreless since September 30, 2023. Bernie Stadium was packed and rocking for our first home 4 PM kickoff. The defense was in top form, led by goalkeeper and Man of the Match Koke Vegas. LouCity had previously scored at least two goals in each of their last four matches and in five of their seven wins this season.

This week is a big one; it's Hartford, baby. In our first Derby Match, we face Hartford Athletic, our rivals just an hour and a half to the west. Derby matches are significant in football, showcasing intense local rivalries fueled by historical, cultural, and social factors. These games attract passionate fan bases, creating an electric atmosphere. Think of Barcelona vs. Real Madrid (El Clásico), Boca Juniors vs. River Plate (Superclásico), Celtic vs. Rangers (Old Firm), and Borussia Dortmund vs. FC Schalke 04 (Revierderby).

This is the first time Rhode Island FC and Hartford Athletic will face off, and the online fan banter suggests it will be intense. The club and supporters group, Defiance 1636, have organized transportation for hundreds of fans, making the "Rhode Trip" to support our squad and bring the energy. Hartford currently sits 10th in the USL Championship's Eastern Conference with 12 points (4 wins, 0 draws, 6 losses). Following last week's crucial draw against Louisville City, we remain 11th in the Eastern Conference with 10 points (1 win, 7 draws, 3 losses), just behind those pesky Nutmeggers. We've proven we can hang with the best in the USL Championship, which is impressive for an expansion team in its first year. But a derby match is a must-win—we need to start this rivalry off right and bring the derby trophy home!

Next week, we’re back home against Detroit City FC, but all our focus must be on the match at hand.

As for our team’s progress this season, it’s been mixed. We’ve had solid performances, particularly from our defense and goalkeepers, but we need to work on consistency and minimizing errors. What's your take on our team’s performance this season? Are you headed to Hartford for the match? If so, wear amber! Are you going to the watch party at Moniker Brewery? Whether you're local or watching from afar, let's support our team as they face their biggest rival in their first Derby Match. Let's put on a performance, show that we're the new kings of Southern New England, snag three points from Hartford, and leapfrog them in the standings. #UpTheTide

Pre-match | Rhode Island FC vs Louisville City FC | Sat May 25, 2024 4:00 PM EST

https://preview.redd.it/pvqizvdkf82d1.png?width=2369&format=png&auto=webp&s=06dfa27e758eb04dad91a716307392b2bd840be0

Last week's trip to Colorado Springs didn't quite go as planned. We started strong, with Jack Panayotou's excellent corner leading to Frank Nodarse's goal in the 13th minute. But despite putting up a good fight, luck wasn't on our side for the rest of the game. CSS's Ronaldo Dumas scored in the 27th minute, equalizing the score. Then, midway through the second half, Karifa Yao accidentally scored an own goal, putting the Switchbacks ahead. In the 87th minute, Stephen Turnbull's foul led to a penalty kick, sealing our defeat. Perhaps the high altitude affected our fitness towards the end. Sports can hinge on a few key moments, and we need to cut down on our mistakes.

Looking ahead, we're back home this Saturday, and it looks like it'll be a full house! We're facing a tough opponent, Louisville City FC, who are second in the USL Championship's Eastern Conference table with 22 Points (7 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss). They're in great form, leading the league in goals scored with 28, compared to our 10. Despite our lower standing, currently 11th in the Eastern Conference table, we've shown promise (with 6 draws, we might as well be called the Draw Kings). Interestingly, our only victory this year was against Las Vegas, who coincidentally drew with Louisville City last week, 2-2. If my calculations are correct, it's more than just a chance against those Bluegrass State folks. It's practically fate; we've got this!

As for our team's progress this season, it's been mixed. We've had some solid performances but need to work on consistency and minimizing errors. What's your take on how our team's been doing this season? Are you headed to Bernie Stadium for the match? Based on how fast these tickets are selling, the 4 pm kick-off seems to be a hit; what do you think? Whether local or watching from afar, let's support our team as they face Louisville City and then gear up for next week's first derby match against our pesky neighbors, Hartford Athletic (Is it too soon to let the barbs fly? Nah, let's go for it: Chip > Dillon). Let's give the fans what they came for—a win and three crucial points! #UpTheTide

Last week was remarkable. Facing off against the Sacramento Republic, leaders of the Western Conference in the USL Championships, seemed like a daunting challenge. However, our Rhode Island FC players exceeded expectations. Matt, from RIFC Nation, introduced a new segment on his show after the game. He asked viewers to summarize the game in three words, and he nailed it with "A Different Team." The team showcased dominance, resilience, and determination. The performance was outstanding in every aspect. Jack Panayotou, a recent addition from the New England Revolution, made a significant impact on the game, especially noticeable in his contributions to set-pieces and corners. We're eager to see more of his contributions in advancing the ball through the middle and up the field. Stephen Turnbull's legend continues to grow with his second USL Championship goal of the season and third overall. It was also satisfying to see Karifa Yao score just before halftime. If it weren't for a late foul from Isaac Angking that led to the equalizer, we would have secured our first home victory. Nonetheless, we can compete with the top USL Championship clubs.

Tomorrow, we face the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the picturesque high mountain terrain of Colorado. Rhode Island FC currently stands 10th in the USL Championship Eastern Conference with 9 points (1 win, 6 draws, and 2 losses). The Switchbacks hold 9th position in the Western Conference with 10 points, boasting a record of 3 wins, 1 draw, and 5 losses. Last week, they defeated our rivals, Hartford Athletic, 2-0. Let's hope we bring the same dominant, resilient, and determined spirit we displayed at Bernie Stadium. It'll be crucial as we take on the Switchbacks tomorrow!

How do you assess our team's progress this season? Will you be traveling to Colorado for the game? Will you be joining one of our local watch parties at Troop in Providence featuring Chip or The Guild in Pawtucket with the 36ers? Whether local or watching from afar, let's rally behind our team as they aim to maintain their momentum against the Switchbacks, gearing up for next week's clash against the formidable Louisville City at home! Let's secure those three points against the mountaineers! #UpTheTide

Last week, our journey in North Carolina earned us another point on the road with a 0-0 draw. Having Koke Vegas back on the field was a boost, and our defense held strong once again, ensuring we grabbed a valuable point away from home. Now, we're thrilled to return to Bernie Stadium with our fans backing us!

Currently, Rhode Island FC sits at 10th place in the Eastern Conference table with 8 points. Tonight, we face a tough test against the current USL Championships Western Conference leaders, Sacramento Republic FC. They're at the top of the Western Conference table with 5 wins, 4 losses, and 0 draws, coming off a solid 2-0 victory against Monterey Bay FC.

We're still chasing our first home win of the season, and there's no better time to achieve it than against a strong opponent like Sacramento Republic FC, especially on Mother's Day weekend! How do you assess our team's progress this season? Will you be joining us at Bernie Stadium tonight? It's a perfect night for football! Whether you're local or tuning in from afar, let's unite behind our team as they aim for that crucial first win on Rhode Island soil and strive to gather some much-needed points! #UpTheTide
