2022 pipe gap setting doesn't appear to be working

hello all, i have a recent issue where the pipe gap settings are not breaking the pipes when at different elevations to show one is running under another. We have checked all the basic settings and looked at other models matching up the mech settings > hidden line and nothing changes them visually.

Has this happened to anyone else

Has anyone attended a grad school program focused on BIM or BIM Management?

I'm looking at the possibility of studying abroad and most of what I do today is BIM. From schematic design to construction administration. Would love to become a BIM Manager.

How to hide family labels in a specific view? For example, i don’t want the label for the dishwasher “DW” to show in my code plans, but still show up in floor plans.

Got an invitation link from Architect to do collab but the shared file is grayed out and I can't open it.

I was tasked with creating a 3D visualization, and I received an invitation link from the architect. I signed into my Autodesk account to view my projects on Autodesk Construction Cloud on google chrome. I opened Revit, checked the Autodesk Docs, and looked at the folders shared with me.

The project file is grayed out, and I can't seem to click or open it. Am I missing something? You can see what it looks like in my most recent post.

Model in 3D but not floor view

I am working on a pipe system that I picked up from another person. The model is showing up in 3D view, but not in any of the floor plan views. I do have some accessories and componets visible, but not the actual pipe. I have tried every filter, view range, view templates, visibility and graphics, phase filter, and hidden elements. I have tried creating new views and even copying the model into a new project and the pipes are still not showing on 2D views.

User can't save model to Cloud

I have a user who can't seem to save a couple of local server workshared projects to the cloud in 2024.2. When I open the server workshared file on my machine, the Collaborate in Cloud button is there, but on their machine, the button is missing. They can open other 2024 cloud workshared models fine, but just can't seem to save a new file to Cloud worksharing.

We are both on 2024.2 fully updated, and this is in fact a server workshared model. I just checked a 3rd user, and they can also save the file to Cloud worksharing same as me. It's just this one user where it's missing, and the File > Save As > Cloud Model option is grayed out.

I found this page, is that what I'm going to have to resort to? This is a fairly recent install, so I'm not sure what could have caused this.

Hello everyone! I want to know how to create an auditorium ceiling.

Do you make it by creating a new family? or a swept blend of a ceiling?

I am currently studying the application and i w'd like to know how the acoustic ceiling that is made in auditoriums, theaters, etc. is made. You know, with certain geometries, patterns or shapes. I've tried to look for tutorials but havent found any. Do you know of a tutorial?

Not all objects lineweight changed/how to export jpeg with thin lines view

I am trying to do a perspective section in Revit. I want the line weight of my perspective to be thin so it doesn't cover and overflow the section detail that I am exporting on it's own.

Issue is, I've changed all my lineweight to the smallest lineweight there is for my project but there are still components of my view that is still thick, such as my slab edge. I've tried changing it but not sure what else I could do.

Or alternatively, I've been trying to export my perspective section view as a JPEG with thin lines on so all the lines are the same thickness and are thin, but everytime I export, it comes out without thin lines activated.

Can someone please help?

Below is a link to show what the slab edge looks like atm compared to other parts of the project.

Tags not copying to one specific veiw?

I copy/paste aligned all my wall tags, room tag, etc. to a few different views but there’s one specific view that where I get the error message “some tags were not copied because they could not find a host” and then NONE of the tags copy. I tested each tag type with individual tags and none of them will copy to the view in question but then also tags made in that veiw won’t copy to other levels. All the views have the exact same view template but I turned on everything and tried again, no luck. The wall types and marks are all the same. The tags will copy to the same level with a different view so it’s definitely the view that’s messed up.

Help with a family/ annotation

i need to create a family in revit. the goal of this would be so i can place it in a room and it will label the dimensions x and y of the room. if the room is L shaped i want it to based on where the object is place it will give the dimensions for example if at the bottom of the L the x distance would be longer if it is placed in the L shaped room at the top.

My hope is to be able to quickly drop these in rooms to provide dimensions for spaces that will be altered so i dont want to dimension both directions in each room.

Energy Envelope Diagrams Workflow

Which method do you recommend for developing Envelope elevations for Energy submission sheets? From past projects I've worked on, typically filled regions are used. I feel that, albeit those can be scheduled, it still relies on manual updates. Material take-offs seem promising, but because it's by category, it seems that different schedules would be needed for curtain panels, walls, windows, doors, etc. I am curious to hear your thoughts and preferences, thank you in advance!

Any random lot dimensions for a site plan?

This might not be a complete Revit issue but I don't know where to ask so let me know. Anyway;
I'm a student currently working on an apartment building for class. Unfortunately, my very considerate professor told us to make a site plan and put the building on it with the whole shaboodle; angles, dimensions, all that stuff.
I don't know how to find property information like that, though, and I don't know what I'm doing. I've been looking around but can't seem to find a site to put my building on. Googling "site plans" has been a bust with little to no detail or the lots are WAY too big (My building is roughly .25 acres, and some clear plans are for 22 acre lots), measuring maps are not very good and dive basic ft and stuff, land property postings have detailed site plans but are excruciatingly blurry (as do all photos on these listings), PLAT maps had basic dimensions but no angles or anything. I'm just lost and I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing and having a industry specialist rather than a teacher makes it way harder.

Elevation missing from work planes

Hi, I have a problem with missing reference planes for elevation with in-place mass. I wanted to follow a tutorial but I can't get past this window since for them, it shows elevation reference and for me, it only shows level floor plans. I wanted to upload a link to the screenshot but the post got removed.

Does anyone know what could be done about this?

Is Revit the right choice for this kind of work?

We are looking to upgrade from AutoCAD to something 3d that handles custom part designs, parts libraries, and bill of materials...EDIT: also shop drawings for welding/assembly/install. Bonus points for physics/analysis like assembly weight and strength under load, tracking labor hours.

The salesman has steered us towards Revit. Mainly we get napkin sketches to .PDFs of architects building plans, and devise some kind of fence or screen system that also suits whatever style the customer wants, mostly boring industrial stuff. 95% of what we ship out was made in our shop.

Generally don't care about anything about the site or building, just where we need to install our stuff, is there slope, what exactly is 'ground' made of.

Would like to hear some opinions. I don't know Revit at all. So much more familiar with Solidworks or Fusion360, but just on the modeling side. I just have this feeling we're walking into the nettles going with Revit.

members simultaneously working on design option causes issues - how to fix?

Hi there,

As a team we're working on different areas in the model, I'm working on ceilings on ground floor, and another member (internal team) is working on another level, but we're getting errors stating another user is working within the same design option and we constantly need to sync. Is there a workaround with this?

How do you deal with linked/aspect models for say fire protection?

I'm looking for a better method to show wall/floor fire ratings in views. Filters works fine in principle until a wall spans multiple spaces and needs to be split, and I'm not prepared to split walls/floors so they can be used wit ha filter, not to mention the multiple family types I will need.

Using a linked model with basic walls/floors/roofs seems logical, they can be generic and have only the required fire rating parameters associated to them. What I'm trying to figure out is do I use filters or give the objects materials which show the colours? Or both?

How do others approach this way of working with a linked model for fire protection? I see one benefit being you can share a small light model with others who can clearly identify the fire requirements without needing a full model.

Modeling Families natively in Revit vs. importing from other CAD software

When creating a Revit Family, are there any disadvantages to importing some or all of the assembly's components from external CAD files rather than modeling everything natively in Revit?

When imported .dwgs are exploded into Free Form Elements, they can easily be assigned material properties and even locked to reference planes for basic parametric dimensioning.

The only downsides that come to my mind when importing manufacturer CAD files are a potentially unnecessary high level of model detail or excessive tesselation. Also, in some cases, it may be quicker to create basic extrusions, revolutions, and other components within Revit rather than exporting them from the external CAD software and bringing them in.

Closely related to all this is the following question: Is there any reason a manufacturer would prefer that their Families be modeled 100% natively in Revit, even if the results could take more time and cost more?

[Railing] How to fix the corners?

I'm not a pro when it comes to railing but I know enough to get started and play with it to get the results. I'm looking to create a railing exactly like this.

I managed to create it but I'm stuck here.

The issue is in the corners, beginning, and end where the baluster is clashing with the railing.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

adding contractors/ members to bim360

Hi there,

There is a little confusion as to how to add external members to our BIM360 folder, it seems like no one outside the company has access to the folders even though they are a project member. We are hesitant to give them admin rights to the folder, is it normal to give outside contractors project admin rights to a project folder??

DiRoots for 2025

I have been using Revit for a week now. I am using the educational product 2025. I install DiRoots from their site but there is no 2025 yet. So would, 2024 DiRoots will work with 2025? or if not, where can I get plugins for 2025 Revit. I am trying to install from Appstore for Revit and been manually aligning in annotations and would like to get it done neatly.

PDF / DWG Exporter

I'm looking for an alternative to DiRoots to batch export (from a live model, not a batch of models) PDF and DWG's simultaniously. To date we have been using DiRoots and have noticed random objects from the model not plotting (or exporting with the DWG) eventhugh they are visible on screen. (DiRoots are investigating this).

What alternatives are there (free?) which work in a similar fashion to DiRoots? I've used Xrev and RTV in the past, are there others?

---edit---

To add, I am aware you can export PDF from Revit, we found the quality not to be fantastic. I also want filenames based on parameters but I assume most will do this.

Family element visibility: how to not display an element in the 3D view?

I'm creating a family and I want to make a CAD import that is part of this family visible in the front, back, left and right views, but not in 3D views, but the visibility menu does not give me the option to not display it in the 3D, is there another way to do it?

Start Railing along mid-run of stairwell

Not sure if the title conveys my problem.

I have a run of multiple stairscases (6 flights in all) across 2 floors. Now along the run, one of the landings will be an access to one of the floors. This means I have to terminate the railing at that level. So what I did is duplicate the railing in question, remove the path from the floor up. Then in the duplicate, remove the path from the floor down. Now the problem is that, when I delete the path from the first flight, the entire railing resets to a horizontal orientation.

Is there a way to start at a certain level instead of the base or am I doomed to split the stairs into 2 runs?

What is Dynamo used for?

Hey everybody,

I'm still relatively new with revit but I'm putting time and effort in it so I'm learning quickly.

I'm considering learning about dynamo and to use it. But I'm not sure of it is worth time and effort to learn it already?

What do you do with dynamo and what is it used for in generally. And how long would it take before someone will get the decent in it and could use the for a project.

I'm still a student so my project will mostly be related to school situations and assignments.

Of there are any questions please ask.

Thanks in advance.

How to price?

I was showing someone (a realtor) my final project for my drafting tec certification and he said someone he knows might be interested in my plans which is amazing.

So how much is my revit project worth?

I don't have any plumbing or electrical set up bc it wasn't needed for the project and I've looked at websites where you can buy house plans for around 1k but I'm not sure what my work is "worth".
