Hi,
I’m not sure if this question is entirely relevant. But I really want to know, for those who are unemployed or still employed but struggling to make ends meet, pay your bills, and even afford groceries — how do you emotionally push yourself to keep putting yourself out there?
I know fear is a great motivator. But I feel like my fear + anxiety hinders interview performance more than anything.
I have been with one pharma company my entire working career (15 years) with position changes within the company, currently in quality compliance. My roles have been some variety of “do my daily work and mentor/train people because I am proficient at what I do.” We don’t have KPIs or any sort of productivity metrics. The role I am proficient in is very niche but full of transferable skills.
I have been applying for jobs my entire career and have never been interviewed or even phone screened except when I had an internal recommendation at a company. I will apply to my exact job description and get ghosted or immediately rejected. I have hired two different resume writers and they just make my resume look pretty, they don’t touch wording which I find odd. When I’ve asked they said it’s worded fine but I guess that doesn’t make sense to me if I get no traction.
I am wondering if I am just a red flag to employers due to only being at one company and being a workhorse, not a mover and a shaker or go-getter? Any guidance? I am in a situation at my company currently where I do not feel I have job security (not due to performance, got two promotions in two years recently, but due to disability accommodations) and am panicking.
I have heard about personal projects in this sub first. I am currently in the second year of my masters in STEM, and looking at resume/application advice. And I did not know about personal projects before. I hear a lot about it in the field of IT/Tech, where people write script or do something in their free time that's related to the resume. However, you cannot really do something STEM related (at least nothing practical) in your free-time at home, as you do not have a lab. So, what counts as personal project? Only things that are related to the field?
Hi everyone,
Well, i love to have some feedback about the structure of my resume, I want to modify it, but I want to know the best order and if it's necessary one of the following points:
About me (I don't have it, but I would love to know if it's necessary)
Education
Experience
Projects
Skills
Publications
Extracurricular Activities (Such as participation in conferences, etc.)
Certifications
I want to know the best order of it, or what do you even consider is the best order.
Thank you.
Russian citizen here, which I know is an automatic black mark by itself. I've been working remotely for a US company since before COVID and am pretty secure in my position, but there is no hope for me of relocating there. I've been trying to plant roots anywhere within the EU area, applying to both on-site and remote jobs. The first kind I never hold much hope for, but the second ones should be right down my alley, yet all I'm getting is automatic rejection emails.
Should I remove some of the metric achievements and add more standard PM job responsibilities to catch the recruiter's eye? Or bite down and make the resume 2 pages long, listing every metric and every work activity from my LinkedIn? I feel like after 10 years I might have earned it. Also, should I list certifications in my resume? I've been attaching certificate PDFs in place of a cover letter, but I'm not sure if that's in poor taste.
Hi there! I am attaching my resume for review. I am starting to apply for new positions but am concerned as I have two jobs that I stayed at for less than a year in a row. I have explanations for both (my latest position recruited me offering a huge salary increase and great opportunity, but now has been a highly toxic work environment) but know it doesn't look great on paper. I am going back and forth on including the first position as it began while I was in college, but does show progression from one franchise location to working on their corporate team. I was also working full time in the first position and developed a highly successful marketing campaign that is the reason I was able to get the job at the corporate level. I don't have any space for skills but have tried to include these in the bullets. If I were to include a skills section it would be:
Skills
Which seems to be redundant with my bullet points. I have been working the event planning position on the side, part time, after my 9-5 and on weekends. I think I want to include it to show that skill and some consistency with a job, but not sure if full time employers will be turned off by this. Any advice is appreciated. Am just starting to apply to marketing director and brand management positions. Thank you!!!
About two years ago I left the job I’d had for five years and a few months later basically ghosted my grad school program. Turns out I was experiencing some sort of months long episode of psychosis and was eventually hospitalized. Took a few months for the actual psychosis to end and quickly turn into the worst depressive episode of my life.
Long story short, I’ve been unemployed for almost two years and am finally doing well enough to start looking for a job. I was working as a project manager at my last job and want to find a similar position, but I am going to try to find a remote position to help make my transition back into the work force less intimidating.
How do I address this large employment gap and my unfinished master’s degree? I’d like to keep the details to myself because of the stigma, but I’m not sure “medical reasons” is enough of an explanation. Any helpful phrasing or explanations would be appreciated, thank you!
Firstly I want to say that this is not a total fabrication, I did do some freelance writing during this time, it was just so little that I didn't even make enough to file taxes. The past 3 years I have largely been out of work (my own health issues plus assisting a family member with health issues) and to make up for that gap I said that I was a freelance writer during that entire period.
I interviewed with one company who really liked me and want to give me an offer. This freelance work barely came up at all in the interviews, they mostly wanted to discuss my other past jobs that have much more to do with this potential job. The freelance work also doesn't count toward any qualifications for the job I applied to, it's really nothing more than showing that I wasn't doing absolutely nothing the past 3 years.
I'm just worried if this might be an issue on a background check, since I'm quite certain they do employment verification and I really have no proof other than a couple of references.
Hi everyone! I've been unemployed for a couple of months and feel like I haven't been having the best luck with interviews. I'm looking for some feedback on my resume, I think it's not as strong as it could be and would really appreciate any comments. Thank you!
Hello,
I'm currently unemployed, and I previously worked as a Software Developer. I've been applying for similar roles using another version of my resume, but I haven’t had any luck so far. So, I’ve decided to shift my focus and start targeting IT Support, Help Desk, IT Technician, and similar roles with this updated resume.
I know my experience leans more toward Software Development, but I’ve tried tailoring the resume to highlight IT-related skills and responsibilities.
On the projects side, I included a full-stack project. It might seem a bit irrelevant to IT Support, but I felt it was better than leaving a large blank space. However, I’m currently exploring certifications which could potentially replace this project section.
What do you think about the project? Should I keep it or remove it?
I’d would appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or tips to improve my resume.
Thanks in advance!
I am currently working at a company under a contract with Actalent. How do/should I state this?
For example, do I say:
Joe Blow & Co.
Lab Tech (Contract)
or:
Actalent
Lab Tech
or:
Joe Blow & Co.
Lab Tech (Actalent Contract)
or:
Something else?
Thanks for your help.
I was recently offered the chance to be a undergrad teaching assistant and tomorrow I have to let the professor know if I will take on the role. I am passionate about the subject and I do love the idea of teaching, but does it look good on a resume?
Im trying to figure out why my resume is getting no traction, currently i have one job listed as just my last title and state that i was promoted several times, but maybe this is wrong:
Im wondering if i should split them out as i did get promoted almost every year before i left, and i Feel this maybe isnt explaining that well?
I'm 25 and have been working in IT since I was 18. I am in my senior year of the degree and have been applying for jobs, both internships/early careers for next summer as well as entry level jobs right now.
I feel like when recruiters see my resume they see I'm expecting to graduate 2025 and immediately reject because they don't want somebody in school. Or if internships/early career programs see my 7 years of work experience first they assume I'm a veteran and don't need any entry level start.
I have 7 years of relevant experience to the positions I'm applying to, an associates degree and like 90% of a bachelors complete, and two decent enough projects to add to the resume.
Given my position, is there an ideal order for these things?
I am in my junior year pursuing a software engineering degree. I am applying for internships and want to make sure my resume stands out and looks professional. If anyone could review my resume and offer any suggestions formatting or content wise that would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Hi all
I'm posting this resume as a recent graduate with B.S in Computer Science looking for a software developer/ software engineer role. I've been applying to ten positions/day (on average) since graduating. I have not had an interview yet. I'm looking to relocate for positions in Chicago, Washington D.C, New York, or accept remote work.
While I've listed my education first, I previously worked in Help Desk for four years. After two years in college, I took another IT position for a year, before leaving to finish my degree. I completed a six-month software internship before graduation, and am looking for a full-time position.
Since graduating I've only applied for jobs online in the above locations. I'm receiving little positive feedback, and I'm concerned its because of low ATS scores. I've since revamped the resume and am looking for general feedback/ areas of improvement.
Thanks
Hi everyone! I’m seeking feedback on my resume as I navigate challenges finding roles in the UK/EU that offer sponsorship. Here’s a bit about me:
I’m looking for roles in Data Science, Data Engineering, or Machine Learning, primarily in the UK and EU.
Hello, I am a first time poster on this subreddit. I am looking for advice regarding my resume. I made an effort to quantify my impact at the different jobs i have held since i've seen that suggested often. The top red box includes my personal name, phone number and email. The two blacked out companies are located in boston and easy to track down so I censored them for their privacy.
Ideally, I am looking to work as an illustrator within the book publishing industry, as an art instructor, or as a graphical artist in animation. I understand that illustration has a difficult job market so I am also open to making my resume more accessible to a broad variety of jobs while I hunt for the ideal illustrator position.
Thank you for your hard work, our true heroes.
I’ve worked at the same company for 4 years, but held 4 positions. I list it currently on my resume as 4 roles, with dates, ex.:
Analyst, Company, 1/2020-1/2021 Senior Analyst, Company 1/2021-1/2022
And so on…
My most recent promotion was in August. A recruiter told me he almost tossed my resume out because it looked like I’ve only been with the company 4 months, and that I should do this instead:
Company 1/2020-Present Analyst Senior analyst Operations Lead Etc
Seems weird since there would be no way for somebody to know how long I’ve been in the role. Also, how would I input that into applicant tracking so that it works correctly?
