Hi there.
On LinkedIn this evening, I read something from a veteran recruiter about resumes. He suggested candidates submit their resume as a .docx, as opposed to a PDF, which is something I’ve been doing for, like, ever.
Two questions:
Many thanks,
- First-year uni student
- Applying to retail positions and science-based internships
- Not really sure what to add since this is my first professional resume so any feedback in this area would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for all of your help!
Figured a new year was as good an excuse to try getting some feedback. As the title says, I've been looking for a new web dev job since mid 2023.
I've got over 8 years of experience, most of it from the my first job at a digital streaming company. During COVID I was able to land a remote job at an ecommerce company, but was laid off a year later. I was lucky enough to find another job within a month of that layoff, but then was told that my new position had been eliminated after about 9 months.
I've been consistently applying for similar roles since then, but have found the trickle of responses to be getting thinner and thinner as more time goes by. I'm currently doing basic admin work in an office, so I can pay my bills at least, but I still want to get back to doing what I used to do. I've included the technical solutions and products I've implemented in this role on my resume so it's not just "spend most of the day scanning and organizing paperwork," but I don't know if it's working against me.
Is these something off-putting that I've missed? Some reason I'd be getting flagged for the reject pile more and more often?
Any advice or insight would be appreciated. Thanks internet strangers!
This is pretty much my resume. I believe my resume is pretty updated with good keywords but somehow it never makes it past the ATS. I get a rejection 3 to 4 days after I apply. What can I do better? I'm looking for internships within the business industry in corporate marketing, communications, sales etc. I graduate in 2026 so I am looking for internships for summer of 2025, so I have some meaningful professional experience. I do have some good achievements, but all I've gotten is rejections. I've been applying to jobs non-stop for the past 3 months or so. What can I change?

I'm a 3rd year mech eng student that is looking for an internship during the summer. I have a lot of experience in MEP from a co-op and also working with a plumber in high school. I'm afraid my resume gives off the impression that I want to work in plumbing industry but in reality thats just all the experience I have. I want to really try manufacturing or product design as that's what really excited me about engineering in the first place. Right now I only get attention from MEP consulting companies as that is what is on my resume, but I want to use all my summer intern opportunities to try new things. Any tips woudl be greatly appreciated!
I am 17 and from the UK and I am looking for a part time job through collage and I was wondering what is better for me to use when applying. I have written a cv with help from my parents and teachers but I'm not sure if I should be using it. What are your thoughts?

I'm applying for any accounting/ Finance/ Consulting/Real Estate internships. Basically anything that sounds cool. Any feedback relating to formatting bullet point improvement to anything to add would be appreciated.
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out for advice because my job search has become incredibly challenging. I recently graduated with a dual MS degree — an MBA in Finance and an MSc in Data Science & AI from a top 10 business school in France. Despite sending out over 1000 applications across companies of all sizes in France, the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and the USA, I’ve only received a few responses.
Here’s a little more about my background:
During my time at this company, I advanced quickly from an apprenticeship into increasingly complex roles, taking on responsibilities across finance operations, data analysis, and program management. Over two years, I held four different positions, gaining exposure to high-level decision-making and strategic initiatives.
Despite this experience, I’ve struggled to secure a new role. I’ve made it to the final rounds of interviews at some large companies, but the rejections often come down to factors outside my control, like my school not being a “target school.” Even smaller companies haven’t shown much interest, leaving me uncertain about my next steps.
I’ve optimized my CV using ATS tools, tailored it for each role, and leveraged networking opportunities to the best of my ability. Recently, I received an offer for a graduate program, but the salary was too low to realistically consider.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
I’m currently based in France but am open to relocating to the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Luxembourg, or the USA to broaden my options.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any advice or feedback would mean a lot!

I am a student graduating in couple of months. Having huge difficulties trying to find a job in Electrical Engineering field, so I would appreciate any feedback on my resume. Thank you!
For the first time in nearly 20 years I will be looking for a new role. I have a unique situation. Was a business owner, had two successful exits and have been working for the company under new owners (private equity,) for almost three years.
I’m ready to move on next year and see this as my first step. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Hi everyone. It’s time to wipe the dust off the resume, it’s been a few years. I graduated college in early 2022 and have worked at the same company since. Wondering if I should be including the internships I had during my college days? Thanks!
I'm a current Computer Engineering Master's student focusing on AI/Machine Learning, and I've been applying to internships, but the only replies I ever get are if I have a referral. I got an interview with Salesforce for an AI internship because of a referral and the it went well. So even though I don't know if I'll get the position I'm wondering why I can't get companies lower on the totem pole than Salesforce to give me an interview or OA.
I'm wondering if my resume format is bad and getting auto rejected or if I just don't have enough experience to make it in a competitive market (It could be a combination of both). I get the sense that my resume isn't even making it past recruiters. I see other people at least get interviews with these places, I'm wondering what they're doing that I'm not.
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had much luck getting advice in other subs or having my resume refined by someone on Fiver for $60. For reference I am a US citizen (I know that can affect what recruiters do with applications).
I'm applying to a grocery store, probably as a produce clerk, and am going back and forth on whether or not to include the 3-4 months I worked as a cashier at a different grocery store a few years ago. I left due to concussion symptoms that went on for months after a car accident. They encouraged me to come back when I was feeling better but I ended up moving on to a different job.
If they ask if I have experience working at a grocery store I don't want to lie, but I also don't want to share about leaving for medical reasons (or include my old manager as a reference for similar reasons).
Maybe I'm overthinking this for an entry level retail job, but I appreciate any advice!
I've been unemployed for a bit and have some limits to my availability due to not having a car so I want to make sure I do everything else right.
Hello! So my last retailer job was a decade ago and I've been working as an accountant since then. The job market right now is bad and I need to find any job to make money. I'm thinking going back to retailer for the meantime while I continue to look for an accounting job...but how do I tailor my resume? Here are my thoughts:
- Keep my previous accounting job as my most recent, then remove the other accounting jobs and replace with my retailer jobs from 10 years ago? My thought on this is that there will be a gap, but I can just explain to them in my interview? I think this is where I'm stuck on the most.
- I will try to add any customer service experience I have from my previous accounting job.
- Adding a summary at the top catering to customer service.
Please help :( I'm so done with being unemployed. I want to work and anything is fine with me.
I am trying to pursue Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. I am sure that my resume looks trash. Can someone review it and if possible could give me a good template. I have tried all stuff like Harvard template and UCB but nothing worked🤧 Here's the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YMnurYfbqKvYWWlj2TPVKF3apVCXsQ8K/view?usp=drivesdk

I am applying for Principle software engineer role and created the following sample resume using AI. Need to change name, company name and some minor details on it. Looking for your feedback on the outline and if I should add anything like hobbies, certification, etc. I have created this using LockedIn AI.
Hi,
I've just been made unemployed after 10+ years in the same company. I'm completely bashing my head against the wall trying to hack my CV into shape, and would be grateful for some feedback. I've done various roles around IT project implementation, supply chain optimization etc. I''m just trying to create a master CV, which I will then adjust depending on the jobs I apply for etc (in Germany/Europe).
thanks!
I've noticed over the last year a large chunk of sites don't pull info from my resume correctly even when it's free of any style choices.
I'm wondering if it would be good to include a second page that is free of all formatting and looks like a .txt file to make it easier for text scanning to read?
Also... can we still get away with white on white keywords that are only seen by the scanner?
I've not needed a resume for some time so I'm slowly adjusting to what's current.

Lately, I’ve been exploring how AI can help with job applications, from resume writing to tailoring for specific roles. I’m even building my own tool, Skillio, to help tailor resumes faster.

Hey Reddit! 👋
I’m currently working on a project called Skillio, an AI-powered resume builder aimed at simplifying job applications. The idea is to help job seekers match their resumes to job descriptions effortlessly, saving time and increasing their chances of landing interviews.
Here’s what I’ve built so far:
✅ You can upload your resume.
✅ Paste a job description for a role you’re applying to.
✅ The tool analyzes your resume against the job description and provides insights on how well it aligns.

Hey, I've had a rather poor employment history mostly due to my own fault and I want to get things back on track, I'm currently unemployed, 19 and searching for a job, the jobs I've had before have been
Nightshift warehouse work, I had to quit within the first week as I could not handle the hours and physical work, I don't list this as I don't think it was reflect well on me
Nightshift train cleaner, I had to quit within the first 2 weeks as my girlfriend who was very ill at the time needed somone with her,
Warehouse vending mechine restocker and cleaner I worked there for a month but quit due to low hours/pay and finding a new job
Day shift train cleaner, worked there for a few months but because I was an idiot and also listened to the suggestion of my Co worker I committed timesheet fraud and was fired, I don't list this nor the other train job as it would reflect poorly on me, they are both for the same company.
Here is my current cv

Work experience – I have worked as a vending maintenance technician for a month at the (company name) warehouse in (location), during this job I had to restock clean and maintain several vending machines across the warehouse, I had to quit to take care of my girlfriend who was medically unwell.
Personal skills: I am a fast learner and adapt to new roles quickly, I used to help out at a farm near by my house which involved heavy lifting, as a hobby I paint miniatures and cycle, I can use 3d printers, I am willing to learn in my own time at home anything I would need to know. End
Are there any suggestions as to what I could improve?
I recently worked as a Lead STEM teacher at a private school that unexpectedly shut down. I am now seeking to transition into a new career path. I am on track to apply to medical or podiatry school and would like to return to the research or medical field in the meantime. Additionally, I want to ensure that this career path remains an option if I decide not to pursue further schooling.
I’m looking for advice on how to tailor my resume for both research and medical roles. Currently, I am exploring positions such as clinical research coordinator, patient coordinator, or research assistant. Any guidance or feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Hello everyone, I'm a junior in Electrical Engineering and I've been struggling to find an internship. I've only heard back from 3 companies I've applied to so far and didn't end up getting those positions. I'm an International student so while that may be partly hampering my chances I'm hoping my resume makes up for that. So I would appreciate any advice on how I can make it better and if anyone has any tips on skills I can develop or projects I could work on to make me stand out I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it!
