I recently purchased a 1990 Rem 700 BDL chambered in 7mm Rem Mag from a pawn shop. It's in really good condition, with the only noticeable wear being on the stock. I'm upgrading the cheap scope it came with middle of next week to a Vortex Crossfire II. With it being a long round, I know I would need a long action stock if I were to replace it. This is my first rifle, and I really enjoy shooting it. I've put 12 rounds through it so far at the range, just to feel how different grains feel. I got some Sellier & Bellot ammo for range practice/plinking, and I'm looking forward to shooting it some more.
What upgrades would be recommended to improve quality of shooting and performance? The wood stock currently installed has speed sling mounts, and I'm using rings to hold the scope on.
I have an 870 and a Mossberg 500, and the Mossberg will throw the shells across room, where as my 870 just kinda poops them out. I was wondering if there's any extractors that improve the extraction power?
My usual parts places, Numrich, brownells, etc don’t have them. I posted over in r/Gunsmithing to no avail.
870 express 28 inch, rifled choke with hogue stock cheap Amazon scope mount and a crimson trace bushline pro predator. Hasn't let me down, yet.
I have a 12g 1187 Premier with the glossy dark walnut stock. Sadly the forend stock has cracked quite badly. I've tried with wood glue twice now but it's not holding. If anyone has any other suggestions for a better adhesive that can handle the heat and stress please let me know.
However if it comes down to replacing the stock (forend and butt) are the 2 models interchangeable? With so many parts discontinued finding a new one from a store is next to impossible. I'm seeing some on ebay but majority of them are 1100. The 3 big differences on the forend stock I'm seeing is the 1100 having the metal ring at the front, different checkering design, and smaller vent holes. I'm sure the first 2 difference won't matter but what about the vent holes?
Does anyone know if there's an OEM era sling hardware kit floating around for these before settling on a Velcro universal or drilling into it? Would rather not do the latter, it's a 1929 serial number all original, but if I don't have a choice it is what it is
My father in law gifted me his prized Remington 700 BDL in 300WM as a wedding present, despite my polite reassurance that I already had a quite capable Elk gun. He insisted, and I conceded.
It’s a classic early 90s build, and clearly spared no expense at the time. He’s getting up there in age and his memory is a little fuzzy on the details, so I did some sluthing.
On top it has a nice and vintage Leupold Vari-X IIc 3-9x50mm in a Burris “one piece” mount. Serial number indicates a 1992 manufacturer date.
Using the date code on the barrel, it’s an April 1990 build. But he had the barrel threaded (he’s made sure to remind me several times that was very uncommon back then 😂) and a flush fit muzzle brake installed, along with a bed job, which I can confirm because the action is absolutely TIGHT in the stock (loosened the action screws to see for sure).
Anyways, my main question is, based on this information, what would you say the twist rate is?
I THINK it’s a 1:10, because that’s generally what a .300WM has. But, I also know that heavy, high BC bullets were not quite the rage yet in the 90s, and the general rule of thumb was to send a moderate sized bullet at Mach Jesus to get a flat trajectory. So, there is a concern that it may be a 1:12, and I know Remington has spun up 1:12 .30 cal barrels, I’ve personally seen them.
I plan to bring it along on my next elk hunt as a back up in case my 7PRC takes a tumble down a mountain (RIP my 7mm Rem Mag), so I want to make sure I’m not wasting time and money trying to load dev with a 210-220 class bullet, when a 180-190 would be more appropriate.
Thanks in advance!
How do i fix this?
16 and 308, got the latter today.
Few years back I sold a Remington 700 “custom deluxe” model to a buddy. Have come to regret it, now back in the market for another one. I noticed the newer models don’t have the “custom deluxe” label anymore, and instead are just labeled “BDL”. It appears to be the same style (high gloss with white pin stripes). Wondering if anyone knows what the difference is or if there even is a difference anymore with the labeling?
Can anyone help me find out what sling that Tommy from HBO's Last of us Part 1 Remington 700 BDL has on his rifle ?
I had to take off the stock to adjust the bolt release pin and when J was tightening the bolts I set my torque wrench to 45 inch pounds, my friend told me to check the free float on my barrel, so I did and I noticed I can’t get a piece of paper more than 2 inches into the stock. I never knew the 700 had a free floating barrel, and I see people online saying 45 is too much, but I also read on the same forum that a 700 with a wood stock should be torqued down to 45 inch pounds.
Is 45 inch pounds too much? Also does the 700 have a free floating barrel?
Sorry I’m pretty new to guns and I’m not a gun guy.
I’m looking to buy a Remington 700 but I remember a couple years back there were some lawsuits and issues with the triggers. Can someone inform me if this issue has been fixed and maybe what serial number series rifles were affected?
Kind regards
Purchased this at an auction - does anyone have any information about it?
Tried to do a bit of research but nothing has come up.
