Sand in water line?

City was doing some work on the water line last week and ever since my family's had this sand looking stuff getting gunked up in anything that uses water. Anybody ever have something similar happen to them? This is in the Glencairn area.

Family Lawyer- SK/AB

I am looking for recommendations on family lawyers in Regina or even Saskatoon with regards to family law. We need someone who is experienced in interjurisdictional cases (the current, 2016 court agreement was made in Lloydminster, Alberta), with our son living in Alberta at the moment.

Current arrangements are joint custody, with primary care giver being his mother. Situations have changed drastically, and we are worried about our child now that he is approaching 10 years old and need to get some better documented agreements regardless of where custody ends up, as both parties have moved since (us to Regina due to work, and them to Cochrane, just because they felt like it and are currently unemployed). Any leads are greatly appreciated!

Sask Health Authority Jobs

Hello, I've been seeing a lot of job listings from Sask Health Authority, and I am really interested and I have been applying multiple times. But still, no luck 😕. I heard they are more likely to be doing internal hiring.

Which month should I apply for jobs for Sask Health Authority? Or which month are they mostly like to hire externally?

Thank you, and have a great day!!!

Looking to join/start a band

Im an 18 year old electric guitarist who is looking to start or join a band. I prefer to play rock and i honestly don't care who joins as long as they aren't an ass. I'm pretty new, I've only been playing for about 6 months (i played acoustic for 6 months about 2 years ago) so I'm not looking for God level band players. Any tips to get me started out?

Living in Regina

I (27M) have been looking for cities to potentially move to that are smaller than where I currently live (Calgary). My main questions are focusing on cost of living, the job market (I currently work in the cannabis industry but am open to others), things to do, weather, and ability to make connections.

TMJ pain

I have had TMJ for the past several years and it seems to be getting only worse. It affects pretty much everything. I can’t eat. I can’t have good sleeps and I would have this dull pain almost constantly. Can’t even remember the last time I had a burger. Went to a doctor and he said there’s nothing that he can do about it. I got night guard from a dentist, didn’t help. And now I heard that Botox might help but it’s so expensive. Has anyone had the same situation and got Botox covered through either private insurance or provincial programs?

Where to buy bedding?

Howdy all,

I’m in the market for a set of sheets and a comforter. I’m having no luck online as everything seems fake or is hellish expensive

Walmart ect doesn’t seem to have what I’m looking for as it’s all polyester

Is there a specialty bedding store? I don’t even know what to Google and I’m coming from outside of town so I don’t know what’s all in town.

Ideally around the Costco area, but willing to drive anywhere

Thanks!

Non-USA produce?

My apples and oranges are both from USA, but I'd rather buy from Mexico or basically anywhere not USA. I see Brazil is a big producer of oranges. Don't really have time to check every store in town.

Could we maybe make a stickied post with sources for non-US produce or other products? I'd like to support Canadian products but I'm guessing we don't grow oranges in winter here.

Mushroom question.

Our dog may have ate one of the random mushrooms growing in the backyard just under the snow. We live in the Cathedral area within Regina and we want to ask if it will be okay. We are certain she didn't eat it but want options. Thank you.

City budget update recommends 8.5% mill rate increase (note: it's an update, not the budget)

Hey Folks,

I go over all this in more detail over on BlueSky (@pauldechene over there). But in short, city admin is recommending an 8.5% mill rate increase in their pre-budget update. That comes to executive committee on Wednesday. (BTW… if you're wondering what "executive committee" even is, my daughter and I made an exec cmte explainer for the QCIB back when she was 11ish. It's here.)

(Also, don't freak out just yet. this is a budget update. Not the budget itself. Still lots of time for this to change.)

https://preview.redd.it/na4bcyba0sge1.png?width=1156&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbb1f8b857d4f8e63f0a930f9079e62473914890

Admin says that only about 1.83% of the proprosed 8.5% increase is needed for city operations. The rest is for dedicated mill rate bumps and for other partners. Here's the breakdown:

  • City operations need 1.83%
  • Dedicated increases 2.01%
  • New council increase 0.07%
  • EDR 0.13%
  • Police 2.25%
  • REAL estimated at 2.21%

So of the proposed 8.5% increase, REAL wants 2.21 & Police want 2.25% for a total of 4.46% or 52.47% — just over half — of the total proposed mill rate increase. I doubt either of these will be popular. But good luck trying to bring down that RPS number! Ha ha! Cops get paid!

As for the dedicated 2.01% mill rate increases, that breaks down like so…

  • 0.17% for intensification infrastructure & industrial development charge reduction
  • 1.34% for water network expansion
  • 0.5% for indoor aquatics facility

Anyway… all this comes down the same week as Canada & the US have begun a trade war. The timing could not be worse. I expect there will be much steam issuing from the ears of city councillors on Wednesday.

And, for the record, this is just a budget update. The actual mill rate increase won't be set until the budget comes out in March.

This update gives council a chance to let admin know where they want to see savings and cuts. And it also gives the public a heads up of what might be coming and a chance to make their opinions known. That's actually the purpose of the report.

I will live tweet the Wednesday Executive Committee meeting starting at 9am from my live-tweet account on bluesky.

It should be spicy.

Babco meats

Just spent a few bucks on sausage there and I am completely disgusted. I can’t believe how bad it is. Bought 3 different types, a bison jalapeno which resembles spicy sawdust. Breakfast sausages which had way too much fake maple extract and finally Mennonite farmers sausage. Seriously how can you goof up a sausage with 4 ingredients? But they did! If they were closer I would bring it back just to tell them how bad it was. Their beef looked fine but I will not give them anymore business.

What happened to Alpine Towing?

I used them several times a couple years ago and they were great. Now it says "permanently closed" on Google and their web page is dead, so I assume they are actually closed for good.

Anyone knows what happened?
