Best episode

I know nobody is in this thread anymore, and a lot of people who are generally don’t even love the show lol. But i love it, unapologetically. Anyway does anyone have a favorite episode? Just finished S2E7 Walk This Way and i think it’s my personal favorite.

All of the family drama that has built up for two seasons coming to an implosion (it seems no one here cares for the family stuff either)-

“Conor wanted the family. Conor got the family”

and then Ray and Conor being the only two left at the house, him giving Conor a watch and it ending with them dancing drunkenly to the title track.

Then the cherry on top- ‘directed by Liev Schreiber’

Say what you want but this episode alone is cinema.

Who is tommy wheeler?

Never really thought about this before. If sean walker is “supposed” to be tom cruise, who is tommy wheeler based on?

Started watching for Liev, stayed for how engrossing the story is.

I love Liev's performance as Victor Creed in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and kinda danced around starting Ray Donovan in fear I wouldn't like it, a friend insisted I gave it a shot and now I'm hooked :D only on s2e4 rn

The U Turn

Ever noticed how Ray is almost always going in the opposite direction of where his next phone call is taking him and he does the “cool guy U-turn”? I swear it’s almost every episode.

Micky was in the right

mickey, I started watching RD 3 weeks ago and I finally finished the movie and I usually like to go on online forums to check the history of any fandom I've missed out on. I'm disappointed in the number of people that view mickey as the Antagonist. I understand that he's a screw up but you can't blame 100% of the problems on him. Bridget died because of Sullivan, Darell wanted to be a gangster because he idolized his father so idk why he blames mickey for all the trouble, ray's attempts at trying to kill/imprison his father ends up backfiring but he blames mick??? and BRIDGET blames mick for her fiancee's death when Daryll was the one that started that gunfight and its cute how he never mentions to bridget thats his gun is what shot him in the neck. Mick sucks but he tried his hardest to make amends, he didn't ever try to kill his sons even after all the times they betrayed him. ungrateful family

My favorite episode

IMO Conor’s birthday episode is the best. It has all the characters under one roof and interacting with each other. Great sub plots…and Walk This Way dance off at the end was fucking fantastic!

The movie

I’m watching for the first time and got a spoiler. I’m only at the tail end of season 1.. is it still worth watching the entire show plus the movie if I only know what Molly does to Ray?

I’ve been a fool

I always saw the ads and trailers for this show and thought it looked so dumb, I was such a fool. Decided to give the show a shot last Friday and here I am almost a week later. S3E10 and this show is absolutely amazing. I’m so sad I’ve missed out on the years of people discussing it and am beyond happy to see it still being discussed on this subreddit. Can’t wait to see what’s next for Ray and the family.

Is Mick the best character?

Even tho he is the antagonist of the show and all and in a lot of ways is a bit of a POS, but he is just such an interesting and complex character. Hes also very funny and it’s cool to see him plan all of his little scams and heists that without fail ALWAYS get messed up somehow lol, I think Voight nailed it with this character and I can’t imagine anyone else playing Mick but I just really like the way this character was written and he added so much to the story of the show. Terry would probably be my second favorite character, I also liked Avi a lot too

Rewatching Ray Donovan for like the 10th time. Does anyone know what house song is playing in the house at Belikovs when he goes to collect the painting. I can never find it on Shazam or any the soundtrack sites.

It's on season 4 episode 6. Time stamp 26 minutes.

What about a prequel series?

I'm rewatching the series, currently in season 6, and I was noticing how miserable it all becomes, each season seems to be more tragic, and everytime Ray and his family appear to be going somewhere good something bad derails it, I mean, the man almost owned ad NFL team.

Other than liking Abby more than the first time and confirming that Bridgit is more annoying than I remembered, the thing that got me the most is how in the first season it looked like Ray's work would be a bigger part of the show before the family drama took over.

So I thing something interesting would be a prequel series set at the early days of Ray working for Ezra, how he got his reputation, bringing more clients, his relationship with Abby, how he met Avi, etc.

Ray and Steve Knight

So I'm rewatching the show for the 2nd time. I watched it for the 1st time years ago so I've forgotten most of it so it's almost like watching for the first time all over again. I'm on the second season and my question is this:

Why does Ray seem to be hypnotized by Steve Knight? He doesn't like Knight, he says as much, but for some reason he is open to sharing his thoughts when provoked by Knight and even shares intimate details of his personal life with him. What is it about Steve Knight that seems to have Ray so transfixed? Does he admire Knight's ability to be open and honest? Is that why we see him make some attempts throughout the season to be more open with those around him?

Abby and Ray

I’m sorry but I’m not team Ray at all. He’s a literally a piece of shit: don’t get me wrong watching him ruin his life is entertaining but omg what a douche. A serial cheater, a liar, and yet he has the audacity to cry out to Abby “why would you leave me?” i had to laugh. Who’s sticking around for that bs lol I’m glad my good sis dealt with her cancer on her own terms. I probably would have killed myself to being married to ray. He’s addicted to women who need saving and Abby wasn’t one of them.

Rewatching...

And i can't get over how insufferable Abbeys character is.

Especially how she acted when Cookie killed Recon.

Just unbelievably stupid, dramatic and emotional

Struggling with season 5 so far

It might just be that I've binged the show so far and need a break but I'm 4 episodes into season 5 and I'm just finding it very boring. The non-linear storytelling doesn't do much for me, it just looks like a gimmick and it's kind of what I call misery porn so far. I appreciate it's a different style and it's not the typical arc of previous seasons. I'm just surprised how quickly I've gone off the show. I'm OK with spoilers I guess, is there more to the season than the Abby plot?

Maybe the most inconsistent series of the prestiege era

At times the series especially in its first season reached levels of the Sopranos and Breaking Bad but other times it seemed to be a sandbox for Liev and David Hollander to do David Lynch. I think Anne Bidderman quitting the series and perhaps in the end not having an auteur vision of the show is the reason it never hit it's full potential. That said the movie actually is one of the few times I can say a wrap up movie for a series lands the hit, the final 25 minutes of the film is heart wrenching and a perfect connection to what the series was at the beginning.

I think season 4 was the best of the series

I think season 4 is where the show shined. There are moments throughout that season that has some of the best performances of the series. Ray's call to Mickey in jail breaking down and crying and Mickey not being able to keep his usual false front up. It also has the best antagonists of any season in not just the Russians but in Hector and his sister.

Where to watch movie?

I am in Canada and just finished the series on Paramount+, but can't find the movie anywhere! I've checked Prime, Paramount, Apple and Netflix. Anyone know how I can watch the movie in Canada? Thanks!
