Conservation advice

I recently purchased a 1796 book, and know the basics of a good environment such as cool temperatures, dry and away from light.

However, I live in a very hot climate and obviously can’t have the AC on 24/7 in my house. Does anyone have any advice within these limitations of things I can do to help the book not get too hot?

So far I’m planning to have it on a raised table/bench, away from the window. Is there anything else I can really do to protect it? Would a glass case make it better or worse?

All advice online simply says to keep it within a certain temperature but if you’re not a museum and don’t live in cool stable climate then this is impossible.

Microcosmography by John Earle, 1732 (not my copy pictured, but I have the same book... It's just inaccessible atm)

This is actually a fascinating book. It's divided into short character sketches with detailed descriptions of the archetypes represented by each character.

Microcosmography is an invaluable tool for fiction writers, especially when writing Age of Enlightenment period pieces. Great for character development!

Kissinger book “nuclear weapons and foreign policy”, looks like it’s signed

This came in today. Is it? Could it be real? Also is there anything more 1970ish than a book by Kissinger on nuclear weapons and diplomacy?

I noticed a tiny white insect in my 285 years old book, how much trouble am I in?

About 20 minutes ago as I was reading the preface of one my oldest books, I noticed a tiny (about the size of a dot). I ran for my phone but when I came back to take a picture I couldnt find it anymore. I've been looking for it or another one since but couldnt find any, and the book doesnt seem to be damaged in any way.

Any advice? Im really terrified...

Book year?

Hi. Is this book correctly dated as 1649? I am not familiar with the symbols in front of the 49.

One of my “ratty old books” - comic history of England vol2, pub 1855

This was a book headed to the dumpster. I especially love old illustrated books, and a comic history of England is a delight. Not especially rare or valuable but it is a garbage save that brought me joy. What prize have y’all rescued this week?

H. Alger question

I posted A Debt Of Honor by H Alger on ebay. I saw a million on line for 8 to 20 bucks. I did 16 dollars. 5 minutes after I posted it Some guy asked if it had ads in the back. I said yes. Now he asked me to take a picture of page pg. 303. CURIOUS. I can't find anything on line. Books not dated and published by Hurst company. I would love to know what he is looking for on 303 and why? Appreciate any help or guidance!
