Still on season 1. Just wanted to say I love the tiktoks of the clock at Ramy’s home. It’s very subtle but unmistakably there in the background in almost every scene at home. And takes me back to my own childhood, when late at night you only hear the sound of the tiktoks and your own thoughts. Having lived away by myself for many years, I have not heard that sound for so long, as I do not even own an analog clock anymore.
there is a hadith about a prostitute who saw a panting dog near a well who was about to die of thirst, so she took off her shoe and filled it with water to give to the dog, and so Allah forgave her. i was just reminded of that hadith and made the connection.
When he's watching with Olivia and we see clips of George W. Bush speaking during Malaria Awareness Day in 2007 and she says:
It's actually crazy that these documentaries are just right there, right under our eyes, fucking YouTube.com.
It's part of how the empire works. They let it exist lo-fi, floating around. They make you feel that if it was real, they'd delete it, as if to say, like, "How could the truth be out there?" But it is out there.<<
What do you all think of Tarek? Personally, I liked him in the beginning especially that we have similar situations but later to me , I saw him as one of the fastest characters to get whitewashed and hated him later. That is my opinion , maybe u can convince me otherwise , I'm willing to listen to any opinions on him. For reference, Tarek is the character that dina ended up with in the last season and just made appearance in s3.
What’s the theory that Steve mentions about having to be entertaining otherwise God will kill you? Or anyone know what episode I’m talking about? Pls & ty
I have this theory that in every scene in Ramy there is an invisible character named God trying to tell Ramy to do the right thing. The joke is Ramy is terrible at listening to God and we watch him fail.
I've always found it interesting to find out what we don't like about works we really like. A few thoughts on Rami.
1° I was a little disappointed that Uncle Naseem was gay. Not that it's bad for a character to be gay, but I thought it was really an easy way out. The cliché of the very masculine, sexist and homophobic character is inevitably a repressed gay. A trope that's been used a lot in fiction.
What I found interesting about the character was that he had the qualities of his flaws. Sure, he was hypermasculine, sexist etc... but at the same time, when a girl is mugged in the street, he's the one who doesn't hesitate to go help without a second thought. (btw, on the rare occasions when I've been confronted with this kind of situation to defend a girl, it hasn't been the most progressive men or self-proclaimed feminists who have taken action). It's the nuance of the patriarchal contract that I found was well embodied in the character. I think making him gay spoils the whole thing a bit, but whatever.
I have the feeling that he's reproducing the pattern with Ramy's sister, who doesn't have sexual relations. Especially the episode where SPOILERS:, if I remember correctly, she has sex with a guy but turns out it was actually a dream. I kind of have the feeling that under the guise of progressivism, the show isn't actually going all the way with what it wants to say. At the end of the day Rami has sex and Dena Doesn't. It stays very comfortable on the matter.I don't know if I'm making myself clear. Actually, this last point isn't even really a reproach on my part, but I wonder if other people have felt a bit like that. ( I haven't seen season 3 yet, so maybe this feeling is no longer relevant).
what r ur thoughts ?
… make so many characters so horrible?
Like what was the point?? He was funny as hell, and I wish we could get deeper into his character, but why make him straight??? Why does he have to jerk off to straight porn and want to fuck women all the time???

Update: it’s been so fun going back and forth with you queens, please keep going, I love how butt hurt you guys are 😭 but then again I’m sure everything’s numb down there by now 😂
Update #2: I see I hurt some feelings here, let me just say, I hope you have nightmares about what I said, I hope the PreP in your stomach makes you throw up tonight, I hope you cry yourselves to sleep. Thank you for being so entertaining during my workday. Byeee queers 🥹
Update #3: I really hurt you queers and your queer kids so much. These last few days have been really eye opening. I’ve stopped interacting and yet I still keep getting notifications, I guess I really hurt some queer feelings here. Let me just say again, I hope it makes you all find the nearest bridge and jump. Do a 360 for the one time 😂
Why does she need him to take off his clothes? And why does he get hard? Is it cause he finally has something he loves?
I have nothing else to add but this show changed me, not to be dramatic.
Hi, I just started watching Ramy, and whenever the characters speak in Arabic the subtitles just say “[Speaks in Arabic]”. At first I thought it was some sort of artistic choice, but then the scenes in Arabic where getting a bit longer and I feel like I’m missing stuff. I’ve searched around for anything on this but couldn’t find anything.. Do I just have bad subtitles?
I got off the waitlist for this limited run play I really want to see and I’ve seen Ramy before so I’m going to be selling my ticket. Selling for face value which was $38.54. It’s a general admission venue and this event is completely sold out.
EDIT: Sold! Looks like others below are selling though I personally cannot verify the legitimacy of their tickets.
