I’m 36. Not married. Don’t plan to be. Don’t plan on having kids.
I pay 1600 a month for rent and another 150 for utilities
I’m tired of not being able to afford a house but somehow being able to pay a mortgage in rent.
I work remote and I have this idea that pops into my head of buying a smaller RV. Sub 1000 dollar payment. Hooking it up with full solar and just parking it at a gym or at a friends house with some internet where I can work and live without feeling so much pressure.
Is this even realistic? Sure I want to buy a house but I can save for it much faster if I can cut my rent and utilities in half. Or even just knock 25% off.
I'm running a dehumidifier 24/7 but I have also been using this type of product in places like closets, small nooks and crannies. They do what they are supposed to in short order but are they really necessary?
My partner and I have recently been living full-time an a 2022 Forest River XLR boost. We have been quite surprised with the lack of heating vents in our unit. The vents in the bedroom and the bathroom are the same size as in the living room space and toy hauler, which makes it so it gets very hot in the bedroom and stays cooler in the living room and kitchen area/garage. We were looking into a way to pipe the heat from the fairly useless vent in the bathroom, out to the living room. (Useless in that we don’t need hot air blowing on the side of our shower stall 24/7…) We were thinking of getting a dryer vent hose and snaking it along the floor out to the living room because the vent is quite powerful.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Thoughts? Is this a dumb idea? Thanks in advance. 🙄😄
I stepped away from my travel trailer a little too long just before a cold snap and didn’t realize my propane had run out, leaving me with no heat for about a day at sub freezing temperatures. All the water lines froze, along with the gray water tank which was nearly full at the time. The black tank still had a little give to it, as it wasn’t very full, but both the gray and black tank release valves were frozen shut.
I hooked up some new propane, got the heat going and left the faucets open and the pump and water heater on. By the time I came back to check and see if the fresh water lines were flowing, (they were) the bathtub had filled with some water, as the gray tank was full and frozen solid.
So I remembered a trick I had used in the bathtub in my house once when the sewer drain had frozen. I got my sous vide wand and set it up in the bathtub. I set it for the max temp of 180F. It took about 18 hours to reach 150ish.
In the meantime, I used duct tape and some tarps to construct a tent under the trailer surrounding the tanks and valves and put a small electric space heater with a fan inside the tent.
Within 2 more hours, I was finally able to open the valves and drain everything.
I have an opportunity to buy a 2013 Jayco swift slx 185 rb in decent condition. No leaks or anything in need of repair. The seller is asking 5 grand. J.D. power list price is 12,000 while average retail is 2,500. Why is there such a big difference between list and retail price and is 5,000 a fair price for this trailer? Thank you.
ok so this may be a bit long but i am new to this and need some help, so here is a breakdown of todays events in case it helps figure out what is going on.
been living in this camper for around 3 months now because we just recently moved to a new state and my brother was kind enough to let us stay in his new camper until we get on our feet. we are in a park and hooked up to city water. today the toilet clogged up and after some research i was able to take care of that issue.(things had started to mountain in the tank so i was able to buy one of those hoses with the spinning attachment at the end and it worked, after that i hooked up my hose to rinse and got it cleaned out and working again.)
in the past ive also unhooked the hose with the water filter just to be on the safe side as im usually over cautious, especially with expensive things and things that dont belong to me or in this case both, this time when i hooked it back up i noticed that it was leaking and after some inspection i corrected the seal and fixed that issue, turned the water back on and ran inside to make sure it was working. i get correct water pressure from the kitchen and bathroom sink as well as the shower but the when i step on the toilet peddle the pressure comes out fine for a second and then drops to almost a trickle.
ive done some research on these dometic model 300 toilets and it seems like the culprit should be the screen on the inlet water line being clogged up with debris but i was able to use a mirror to look into it and it looks totally clear so im at a loss with what this issue could be.
any helps would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!
Hey all~ I have a 2015 Palomino Columbus 5th wheel with the self leveling setup. 6 feet plus 2 stabilizers at the far back. On the self leveling control panel there are the normal arrows indicating left/right and front/rear. I don't see any way to control the 2 center feet and I don't think they move when self leveling. The videos I've watched only show how to self level, but I can't find anything about those 2 center feet. What can y'all tell me that might help? Thanks in advance.
I had some leftover foam board from skirting my trailer and I cut pieces the height of my mattress and put it between the mattress and the wall. It’s only an inch thick. I’ve read about mattresses molding from being up against cold wall in the winter and when I checked mine it was so cold to the point it could have been wet. Does anyone think this will work? It’s better than nothing? Good idea? Any feedback/ constructive criticism would be appreciated. Thank you.
First winter with our camper, we plan to do some winter camping but not a ton. I bought an adapter to hook up an air compressor to the city water inlet and ran it for a few hours trying to get each faucet dry and the water heater. Even after all that I still have some gurgling in the lines. Knowing basic physics tells me I should be ok because the lines aren’t totally full of water so there’s plenty of room for expansion, but I wanted to check with the hive mind. Also my tanks are as empty as they can be but I’m sure they’re not totally dry either, again I’m assuming that as long as there’s room for expansion we’ll be fine.
Is there anything else I should do or try? Do I have to run in antifreeze?
I have a 1973 Bell trailer, cannot seem to find anything useful for the sewer system. from what i understand it’s gravity fed, but i have absolutely no idea if the very bottom is the drainage. there is no drainage on the bottom of trailer either, so i’m a bit stumped. Going to try and put some water through what i assume is the city line. i have a regulator so i’m not worried about screwing anything up quite yet. but would i need an adapter for this?
What methods do you use to keep dog odor to a minimum in the RV after a long drive? (Other than the obvious window open method - looking for deodorizing techniques.)
Selling a house in PA. But want to live in FL for a couple months before buying a house down there. Considering buying an RV to live in temporarily since we are planning to buy one eventually for camping trips. Any advice on what size/floor plan would be doable for a couple months? Smaller than a fifth wheel but we have two kids.
Need help ? Went charge house batteries and shut them off at switch but didn’t disconnect the cables. Now nothing works and the inverter under the couch is off and the converter switch will not stay on ?
I read somewhere in this sub to close my binds in winter, at least in the evening, or else I'd be hemorrhaging heat through the windows. The statement nestled itself in my brain but I can't find information supporting it. Do you all agree? It seems reasonable....
We have super thin pull down blinds whoch i jave kept down, and I've considered putting up nice thick curtains with a tension rod. I've already put window cling on the windows. Typing it out it seems like a no brainer but I'd love someone with experience to advise me since this is our first winter.
I'm at my wits end. Full timing it for the last three years, but the trailer has never moved.
For the last year and a half, only our GFCI outlets have worked. I've had three different mobile techs out to try and find the source of the issue, but no luck. Things have power when the breakers are off, and our last tech took out the battery charging capabilities because it's considered a fire hazard. We're charging the batteries using a charger that's connected with shore power. We can run everything on 12V EXCEPT the furnace because it takes too much power and drains the battery. We just replaced the batteries yesterday, so that's not the issue.
We can't take it in because the leveling system doesn't work (as far as I know). Not that we'd have a place to stay with three dogs.
Just looking for advice. Maybe there is something we haven't considered. Trust me, we've gone all the usual routes of diagnosing. Our current tech is trying to get documentation for how this was built and wired in an attempt to get a roadmap of what the source issue could be.
At least we have hot water.
We recently purchased a travel trailer, it’s in pretty good shape but could use a few things as well be living in it full time starting a week from Monday. It’s a 2012 Jayco that was used full time up until 3 months ago, with the water heater, AC, fridge, microwave and flooring replaced in the last 3 years. The water heater doesn’t seem to ever get hot, just warm, even when left on for 8+ hours. The the water pressure is pretty weak when hooked up to city water, nonexistent when the tank is full but we’re confident that it’s a bad pump (which we can replace ourselves). The wiring for the water heater is royally F’ed in my opinion, need that sorted out as there seems to be a lot of exposed wiring under the sink that isn’t routed or protected properly. Other than that we haven’t found any issues yet, slides work great and there’s no leaks.
Anyone have any recommendations on where to take it or who to have come out? We’ll be living in Bushnell but traveling to NPR almost daily, trailer is currently in NPR. Also wouldn’t mind getting the brakes and wheel bearings adjusted/repacked/replaced as needed on the travel trailer and on our tandem axle enclosed trailer as well as new tires on the travel trailer (they hold air and don’t have much dry rot, but they’re going on 7 years old and it’s only been moved 3 times).
TIA!
We just got our skirting on, vinyl I believe from EZ Snap, and I've been looking into what people are doing to keep under their trailer warm, there's a lot of mixed answers on this page. We have a 39ft fifth wheel and are skirting 3 slide outs, plus the front when we get that half. I realize skirting is more of a wind blocker than anything.
Some people are using halogen lights/heat lamps, which I wonder if that would be enough for our space.
Some are using like greenhouse outdoor space heaters, which I liked the idea, but get scared of the reviews melting outlets, I worry about a fire hazard, or melting the under belly panels.
Some use heat tape, which I've considered, but the underbelly is completely closed off on our trailer, I'd have to remove the belly panels and wrap the lines and dump valves then try to close it back up, which doesn't sound fun now that it's already December.
Some people say running the propane furnace, which we will be all winter I'm sure, somewhat warms up down below but I'm skeptical about that.
We just left North Dakota, which was brutal the short period of winter we were there, and we're heading to southern Wyoming next, so we have a tough winter ahead of us. Would love to hear your guys set up, especially for the bigger fifth wheels with slide outs. Thanks
Anyone know if this model has solar connection and if so where. I read the specs and it says it does but idk where
im looking to order a key to lock the cabin of a Damon Intruder, its already unlocked. i dont need to start the vehicle (though that would be better). its been abandoned for about 4 or 5 years. it's on the lot of a hotel that I frequently stay at and was able to ask the hotel manager about it. was wondering how to get new keys ordered either through the internet or a lock service. taking legal ownership of it seems complicated since i dont know what kind of problems it may have, but is a potential option.
PS are there separate keys for the ignition, the deadbolt, and the cabin (3 different keys)? or is it just 1? I've heard I might be able to look in the glove box or use the VIN to get a key code. again I'm mainly looking to just lock the RV, not take it for a ride it has a bunch of flat tires. de
Hello everyone! First post here! My boyfriend and I are in central Florida and are looking into buying a camper to live in full time! We are HEAVY gamers and we are terrified how the power is going to affect our gaming. We do not want to deal with power going out, breakers tripping all the time, any problems that will hurt our computers and gaming. Any advice and tips are super helpful! I can post computer specs when I get home from work but we are still learning all about power draw and everything. Thank you all for your help on this journey!
My wife and I are currently living in a 2008 RV. We’re wanting something newer and want to start applying for some loans. I just have a couple general questions maybe some of y’all kind folk can help clear up.
Can I apply for a loan at the same time at multiple different places?
We both generally have decent credit 730+ vantage and FICO, but if we get approved somewhere and denied at another will that generally cause issues?
We live in WA state, with our credit score about what interest rate do y’all think we should get if we’re wanting a used RV around 40k?
And if y’all have any recommendations for places to apply to I’d appreciate it. Our last loan was from USAA.
Thanks again!
Except I can't run the space heater and dehumidifier without tripping the breaker. And as an allergy suffer I can't do air that dry or I'll wake up with a stomach full of post nasal drip. So, I'm just going to have to dry the windows twice a day and check for mold regularly. There isn't really a question here, except, "Does anyone else live in the camper in the winter without a dehumidifier?
