How to be part of Rotto’s Birthday Party for quokka joeys

I'm visiting WA for the first time later this month. Unashamedly my primary reason for travel is to see a quokka. If i go to rottnest island via ferry, leave about 8am and depart at 5pm the same day, is this enough time to see a few quokkas? And is it enough time to go around the island with? otherwise i'll book accomodation overnight. TIA
