I always get hyped for the Halloween and xmas map jams but there doesnt seem to have been one this year? Any info?
So today I bought Quake II on Steam and, after finding a site that listed all the cheat commands I could enter into a console window, began playing. However, despite pressing the ~ key numerous time, no console appeared.
Do any of you have any ideas about this or suggestions?
At first I would have though just play 1-4. But then I heard that 4 happens mere hours after 2, and I also saw a post saying that Quake 1 doesn’t have a sequel. So what order should I play them?
Full Quake is ported to the Arduino Nano Matter board. An open-source demonstrator board is built.

I’m not sure if “particle effects” is the correct term but I’m talking about stuff like blood splatter, sparks, smoke, bullet impacts,… I’ve always wondered why they look the way they do. Is it an engine limitation or an artistic choice? Doom had very different looking smoke/blood/ bullet effects. The effects in Quake look much more primitive. It’s very distinctive tho, very typical of Quake, I kinda love it.
Hey, I started Facebook group lately dedicated to community creations for various 90s and early 2000s FPS games, mods, TCs, customs maps, retro fps content etc, (including newer boomber shooters as well), please feel free to pay a visit and contribute. Few months ago i started to sweep youtube for very best custom community FPS related creations, im making a list of maps and mods for possible future gameplays, feel free to join if you would like to find out all of those high quality FPS mods and maps in once place.
I know that a lot of games are cannon to Doom, and Doomguy is in Quake Arena I think. They are also made by the same people. So does anyone know if it’s a lore reason or just an Easter egg, it’s probably just an Easter egg lol but I’m curious
I know Doom has several going upwards into the 3 digits levels does quake have anything even approaching that?
It looked pretty great, but it seems like it went to visit the Volcano God without a return ticket. No news since forever.
Hey, a while ago I had Quake, GOG version.
I had a mod for better looking textured but a reformat caused me to forget what it was.
Ive been trying to find a graphics mods that works with the GOG version and keeps the soundtrack intact.
Many of the mods use "Darkpalcers" (IDK what that is) and it seems to change the OST
Any help would be appreciated.
For the past couple of months there’s been a lot of back and forth on how to pay tribute to Quake 3, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary on December 2nd. Since we could never settle on a specific direction, we’re going to make this very simple for you all. Each and everyone of the participants can pay tribute in their own way.
Meaning you’re free to do whatever you want in Map-Center’s Quake 3 25th Anniversary Jam, with only minimal guidelines in place. You can these and further discussion, in our #q3-anniversary-jam channel in the Map-Center Discord server, which you can join here: https://discord.gg/vSvqwys5hB.
I thought the Nightdive remaster included an effect where the Death Knight created some blue colored light when casting their spell, but I replayed and I can't find it anywhere, even mentioned on the net. Am I tripping? I don't see the effect in Quake 64 either.
Hi , I recovered my old PC from 2002 . This is with XP SP3 with all updates on it. I'm triying to install Q3 Arena and I have this rare error. I had been searching and there is not way to fix it . Do you know what is ?
An error ocurred during the move data process: -113
Hello. I saw a video on Bonkjam and though i gotta have that. I have been trying to get it to work and I'm stumped. I tried to find some info online bot found nothing. Do anybody have some good links och advice?
quake 1 OST is a halloween banger in this house
And it's really cool.
I see that it's already been praised a lot, but I gotta say, Call of the Machine really surprised me.
Q1's Dimension of the Machine I thought was a bit underwhelming but this was very fun to play.
The changed enemies and bosses were bvery unexpected, the levels were memorable and quite different from the old ones, and nightdive made far better use of you starting each unit fresh.
And of course, the unexpected crossover at the end.
It felt a lot I was seeing a glimpse at an alternated universe where quake 2 got a thriving modscene.
Speaking of, are there any Q2 mods I should go take a look at?
Old Quake add-on CDs often have rare maps/mods/releases.
I've created QuakeDiscs.com to catalog all known Quake 1 add-on CDs, including lists of all filenames/sizes/timestamps/sha256 on each CD.
Current count (as of right now) is 171,143 Quake files across 80 Quake Addon CDs.
There's also a file search to search across all CDs. Super useful for Quake archivists like myself :)
I don't link directly to CD downloads, but I do link off to places like archive.org and quaddicted where you can get an ISO download link for most CDs.
Let me know what you think and how it could me made more useful.
Also shout if you know of/have any missing shovelware/warez/etc Quake 1 focused CDs.
I'm currently playing Quake II 64 on the Q2 enhanced version for PC. It's possible to save at anytime which I'm not using except before tricky jumps far on the level progression and cheap traps (mostly to get secrets).
I figured those Quick saves were impossible on the N64, so it should make a more authentic experience. Am I wrong ?
I did the same with the pc campaign and Q1, were those quick saves already there or is it a new addition for modern players ? It feels a bit too generous for 90's games (not that I'm complaining)
Is there any mod with animated spinning weapons HUD mod like in quake 2 exp for quake? Any help is appreciated.
Here's my idea:
I saw that there was a 1 HP Quake 1 mod on moddb where if you get hit by an enemy or get damaged by the environment other than fall damage you will parish. However, I had an idea for an even more brutal mod where you have the option for the 1 HP, but it is also one in the chamber such as from Halo Infinite and the Call of Duty games where you only have one bullet to instantly kill an enemy but if you miss you only will be able to melee an enemy to regain that bullet; the same would exist here. This would make the axe a viable weapon in close range and stressful situations. My other option which would also be implemented from the 1 HP Quake 1 mod via another mod which would take the one in the chamber but would allow you to keep stacking the ammo per successful hit but wouldn't always insta-kill the enemy but would deal a stackable x.25 extra damage per landed shot. This is just an idea, and I am not smart enough to mod games but if someone could turn this into a gameplay mod, I believe it would be a fun and challenging mod. These mods could also have a vampire ability where each landed shot or axe strike gains health; or an option that doesn't even contain the 1 HP mod. This mod would also be compatible with graphics mods as it doesn't affect the graphics but the gameplay.
When browsing around I see people claiming having expansions of 250 characters and tons of maps, but I haven't found them.
Are there any? I mostly enjoy CTF maps against bots on nightmare, not the Live mod but the standard game, so I'd welcome new challenges and honestly I'm a bit bored of the same few dozens of characters already.
Any suggestions?
Pretty good deal, two great games with multiplayer and super fun split screen. It even includes an extra chapter for Quake 1. It has achievements too.
