Hi reddit! Me and my good friend both wrote this film, The Hippie Who Came To Roam and we are directing it this summer with hopes for a festival run! Its an acid-soaked homage to 60s/70s Grindhouse as well as Arthouse films. Think Mario Bava, David Lynch, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Greydon Clark, etc. This is the biggest project I’ve ever worked on in my life, we have an incredible crew of super talented people we've met over 3 years at film school, renting out studio space as we speak and have a killer makeup design for our monster!
Movies however are rather expensive and we have setup an indiegogo campaign with a flexible goal so we can achieve this crazy idea! The crew is all working volunteer, the budget will go toward the makeup effects of our monster, proper lighting and location rentals, and hopefully a cast member if we could get one semi-big name actor attached. Its been a super hard year for everyone so obviously no pressure, but even $5 can go a long way.
We made a short film together in 2019 called The Ash Under My Nails, (you can see it on Youtube) which was an homage to 80s Aesthetic Exploitation and Satanic Panic, funded through indiegogo as well and it was quite a successful campaign! We're taking everything we've learned from that film (which was a hell of a lot haha) and everything we've learned from the over a hundred student and short films we've directed together to finally make our dreams a reality. (if you'd like to base your opinion on that, you can see them on Youtube - Filmflicker Cinema)
Tagline: Missing people, a strange new drug, gateways to another world, and a terrifying monster that lurks in the shadows.
Plot: After her lover goes missing, a mysterious hippie named Moonflower travels to the small, whimsical town of Roam to uncover what happened to him. As Moonflower meets the town's strange inhabitants and begins to slowly unravel its mysteries, she discovers her lover is far from the only one to have gone missing. Starting her investigation at the town's school, a black spot of missing person cases, Moonflower tracks down a devilish man known only as The Dealer, who has played a large role in trapping her sweetheart in another realm, where he is being hunted by a horrific beast of folklore. Meeting up with a soap-selling sailor and an otherworldly ringleader, they uncover the secret door to the monster’s realm and delve into the belly of the beast to save her man and put a stop to this beast's reign.
Its like a post-modern fairytale for adults with that 70s soaked arthouse/grindhouse flare and a theme of film’s effect on the public consciousness! Its fun, magical, spooky, sexy, adventurous and thought provoking!
Thank you ALL for your consideration 🙂

I'm doing Scarecrow Video's Psychotronic Challenge and the third category in the challenge is a film by a well-known auteur and I was thinking of doing Paul Shrader's Light Sleeper but it would only qualify if noir was a psychotronic genre. Do you think it counts?
