I'm thinking about mental health in a general sense, and wondering if something makes sense to anyone else. I'm thinking specifically that there's no real need for the term "mental health". Your mental health is just an extension of your general health, and I don't really think it needs a separate category. As a medical discipline, the fields of psychology, and psychiatry are necessary, but in the terms of talking about our health, there's literally no reason to talk about your "mental health" as something that is separate from your physical health, they go pretty much hand in hand.

Become interested in the person you are talking to. Ask them about themselves, not just surface questions but really try to engage with them. For example: you have a beautiful house! do you consider this to be your forever home? if you could move anywhere else where would it be?

Focus on the other person and it’ll take the load off you. Just my two cents.

I see a lot of people saying this can easily come off as interview like/one sided. 

This advice is being given assuming these questions will hopefully spark deeper conversation. I don’t advise anyone to rattle off questions like an interviewer. Rather, focus on learning about the person and as that person expresses themself find those potential nuggets of relation that you can use as a springboard for your responses.

Oh and if you’re talking to people who are too vapid to return this conversational courtesy maybe you’re talking to the wrong people.

Remembering your susceptibility to the affective forecasting bias will help you get better perspective. Equally, if you're in a great mood you might make lots of plans based on how you feel in the moment only to find yourself exhausted later. Remember to check in and ask yourself if you'll have the energy.

YSK: Human beings are very susceptible to bias called 'affective forecasting', i.e. if you feel good now you think you will feel good in the future. If you feel bad now, you are likely to predict you will feel bad in the future. Emotional states are shorter than we expect.
