Hi everyone, please does anyone have an idea of what’s going on. I got to test stage as a prison officer residential, after I went to HMP for the group and writing exercise going to two months no response. I keep checking on the portal and still saying “Current status is: Awaiting Review at Testing”
Any help or idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
As the SPS dont include the footwear as part of the supplied uniform I'm looking for recommendations for boots as an operations officer. Something durable and comfortable. I was looking at Magnum boots but wanted some assurance or suggestions, cheers.
I have an interview at the prison next week for a Business Administrator position. Can anyone advise me of the questions I may be asked please. It would be much appreciated 😊🙏
Will be starting there soon as a PO. Anyone work there and any words of advice etc… Cheers.
Wondering if anyone in here has worked/is working in HMP Frankland. Any sightings or stories from there you could share?
I have an online interview with SPS for PO (Operations) in a few days and I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or anything?
Is it hard to go from PO to SO?
I'm due to start as an OSG next Monday and was hoping someone could give me some insite into the shifts.
Are you monthly rotas usually the same, minus the 7 nightshifts you do?
I know I have training for at least the first week and that will be 9-5
Hi,
Has anyone who works in prisons or potentially probation (If anyone's here) heard when they will roll out the HDC expansion from 6 months to 12 months? I've seen on the news and articles with "immediate effect" just wondered if anyone has heard what month this could potentially be?
Thankyou in advance
Anyone on the merit basis application for feltham? Will be joining soon still on my pre-employment checks. And has the prison improved?
Hey guys, hope you’re all well.
I’m an a level student thinking about a future career in prison education (teaching functional skills)since I love teaching others and I’ve always wanted to help people have an education if they’ve been disadvantaged from it in the past.
Just wondering, from prisoners or guards or whoever, what’s the education system actually like in a prison? I know it varies via location but just a general idea.
Is there a designated wing or area or is it something that goes on in the canteen or something? Is it pushed and encouraged or is it just a case of people wanting to learn show up so I could have a class of 0 one day and 20 another? Do workers get institutionalised going through security daily and having limitations on where they can go or do you get used to the feeling of being ‘trapped’?
Sorry if this is such an out there post, I just want a career n in something needed and beneficial but don’t want to get into it if there’s no stability or job security there for me.
I start my 9 weeks training at Newbold Revel on the 24th of November which obviously goes over Christmas Day and new year eve and day. Does anyone know if we would be training during these days? Also if you’re going at the same time let me know !!
Please? What did your first 2 weeks look like? When did you get uniform etc? What wa include din your uniform? Do you get shown around the prison?
Hi. Had induction at local prison (cat a) and walk around last week, start next week properly. What’s the shadowing like for the first 2 weeks? Do you get much time to learn? Is 2 weeks enough before training? Seems pretty over whelming in terms of stuff to learn. For a start the jail seems fucking massive, silly question but what if you get lost lol? Do you get sent to one wing for the whole shift or?? 😮💨
Good morning folks,
Does anyone know if I would be allowed to get some uniform items alternated by a professional tailor?
My trousers/cargos are far too baggy (the cuff of the leg can go over my boots) to the point their getting caught on things as I walk by. My shirt sleeve is also far too baggy.
Yes, I tried sizes above and below but the waist is then either too large or too small. Same with the shirts and the neck size (which is how they determine the fit).
Many thanks in advance.
I am intrigued as to whether or not a prisoner in the UK can be compelled to take medication, if they can be compelled how will prison/ medical staff go about fulfilling this task?
Hi sorry if this is a silly question but what does the training look like for a osg does it involve staying a residential or is it fully on job I’m currently about to do my pre employment checks and I’m based in Kent, but with personal things in my life I need to know what the deal is Thank you
Hi - I’ve been looking into becoming a Prison Officer but I think I would ultimately like to work in YOI. Is it possible to use your experience and training to work in a YOI? Or are there career routes possible once your band 3 training is completed?
So this has been a recent talk of the jail at my nick cant speak for the rest but how do people doing part time shift patterns being able to do a bunch of bedwatches and a bunch of PP. I know staff who are part time but earn more than full time just due to the fact of bedwatches they can get in
Im aware the number 1 can challenge this and i can start raising questions do you all feel tbere should be a cap for them?
Does anyone know that if a letter is sent to a prisoner with just his name and month/year of birth it will get to him as we are having no luck making any contact without his prison number? Have tried the gov “find a prisoner” service but it’s taking forever and getting no response as yet.
Is anyone else starting Gath next month and training at Wymott or Newbold?
I recently got an offer from HMPPS for a prison officer role in a category C service.
I’m currently working in health and social care as a support worker with sponsorship and this new offer that comes with sponsorship from HMPPS, should I make the move or not?
PS: I am not interested in the money just naturally love making a difference in people’s lives.
Hi, does anyone know what exact amount I’ll get per month during 3 months training? It says 32,448 for 37 hours which is my starting salary. But says 27,040 as base salary? Can anyone help thanks
My partner has recently been released and is due to have a GPS tag fitted, probation have informed him it will be after 5pm and therefore he needs to be in by then. He is wondering what time they may come until? To make sure we don't go to bed and then they turn up and we don't hear the door.
Tia!
hi all Does anyone know if any overtime paid goes towards pension? Ie is it pensionable? TIA
how does one guarantee they can get a couple bits without buying from an outta date by ten year GAME Catalogs etc
I’ve written to someone at Swaleside, but didn’t put my address on the back of the letter. I’ve seen since this is normal practise.
Took me about an hour to hand write so would be a pain if it wasn’t delivered because of this. Anyone knows what happens to letters that don’t have sender address on them?
What are the hours for the Initial Training for 2 weeks? I know the foundation training hours but aside from showing up for 9am I haven't been told anything else about times for those first 2 weeks.
