Hi we usually check our yard at night. One of my dogs wanted to go out and my husband let all 3 out. Well there was a possum at very end of our yard so he screamed for me. I ran out to help get the dogs, luckily the killer weiner never made it out there. The little guy had a wound on his leg so I cleaned and added ointment on it. I made him a peanut butter sandwich and moved him deeper in woods beyond our fence and I’ll check on him later. I hope he’s ok, we need to be more careful. Is there anything else I could have done?
Mama's finally getting some food in her belly 🩷 she's eating some fresh pet dog food. Not a whole lot Just a few pieces but I'm glad to know she has some sort of appetite. Maybe she'll eat some cat food later or I can make her some eggs
Nom Nom peanuts Possum (look at those feeties!) Just clipped this CHONKY cutie on WildLifeCam
My possum friend (no name) isn't around since temperatures have fallen into the low 30s. I'm sure the furry ball of teeth is alright, but do these amazing animals actually hibernate or are they just hiding out somewhere growling to themselves about the cold?
My friend took off an access panel under his RV and forgot to put it back right away. Since it is wintertime here in Oklahoma, a small possum has decided it would make a perfect nest. It has been a week, and his efforts to peacefully evacuate his new roommate have been met with zero success. He has a live trap on the ground underneath the access panel and has tried baiting it with apples and PB, as well as, BBQ Vienna sausages. The trap will not fit inside the compartment. He has tried playing loud, sounds to scare the little guy off but he isn't budging. Thoughts?
I'm in North America. I watch a distinctive looking possum with grayish white fur and a marking go through my garden every night an hour or two after sunset. I assume it's a she because it used to be the same size and shape as other possums and now she looks like she swallowed a football.
I don't want to attract wild animals to the building I live in. They come through but don't stay currently, there's a path through my yard they like to follow.
Can I help this pregnant animal without leaving food out? I have a large water bowl available to anything that needs it, and I'm open to building a shelter in the woods although I have no idea where else this animal goes.
I don't know anything about possums except that they eat ticks and are therefore our friends. Any advice would be appreciated.
Turns out who I thought was a boy is actually a mama, she's still not doing good though. She's still not producing much body heat and is seeming pretty lethargic. Just overall not moving around much. Not all that interested in eating considering. I gave her some scrambled eggs this morning and she is yet to touch them. At the moment we are trying to find a place somewhere that's willing to take her and help her on her transition over the rainbow bridge or can at least give her fluids or something. We are unable to pay for a euthanasia but we're hoping someone will let us surrender her to them and if so we will be taking her tomorrow if she makes it through the night again. Till then I am keeping her warm and I will be going in regularly to give her cuddles and love and pets
She may be able to be boosted back to better health, but we're not exactly sure right now.
He's been coming around for over 2 years. 1 year in which he was coming inside (left sliding door open a bit for my cats.) Too much insanity happening in my life I didn't notice him for the first year until he started walking in the door when id be sitting on the couch. Not alarmed by my screams or anything so I'm assuming he already found himself at home during that year. Explains a smell I couldn't ever find... Anyways now I look forward to seeing him every night.
I volunteer with a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation program and these cuties were who I was greeted with when I went to pick up animals slated for release. These 5 (and a bigger adult not pictured) possums were released to safe release spots (nature reserves) to continue about their possum life.
Banjo when he was a baby
this little guy is so small. i'm having a moral dilemma. i want to keep him inside until he's bigger but also he's a wild animal and i know he doesn't want to be trapped inside :( but im so scared every time he comes to visit me will be the last. he is literally so small even one of the stray cats could easily kill him if they wanted to. also dont know for sure he's a boy i just call him one. he lets me pet him and comes in through the window. i feel like i should just leave nature alone. he at least has a never ending food and fresh water source with me. i feed 2 others but they stay outside on my patio. but this little guy is still young enough to let me interact with him :( ugh i just want to love himb forever
Tonight i will be attempting to pet the massive chonk on my porch once again but this time on CAMERA! But still not with my hand yet till he fully understands what my intentions are but i can tell he already trusts me ALOTT for a wild possum 🙂 but i have also been getting him used to my presence and voice since he was slightly bigger than my hand💕😋 along with his siblings but they dont give me much time to bond before skedaddling. Still havent gone to the store so he will be getting some walnuts as a snack tn and im gonna bring a spoon to pet him with again since im giving him time before i try my hands 🙃
Last time he was very polite and didn't bite the spoon just gaped a lil and tilted his head on its side to show his smile but thats classic possum not necessarily aggressive behavior 🩷
I also need a name for him when i get a good picture of his size itll help determine it bc hes MASSIVE
This possum has been living on our porch, mainly our outside doghouse for a few weeks now. Should we feed him? He doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. If so what would they like to eat
Funny enough, he comes here to eat the food of a stray we are feeding/keeping warm until rooms open at the animal rescue- who is NAMED POSSUM!!! 😂
Anyway, about an hour and a half to 2 hours ago, I went to bring my dog out and saw him thinking he was the cat Possum, lo and behold, an actual possum. He is very cute and looks a bit chonky- but it is 20 degrees here tonight. I’m not sure if he’s in shock or ill, or if he is fine chilling on a blanket. The dog wanted to see him and pulled towards him a lot with a bit of struggle but did not get close whatsoever or bark at him. When I go outside, he does open his mouth at me but stays on the blanket. I have an insulated cooler cat shelter literally 5 feet away from him that he honestly could use if he is staying due to the cold- Possum cat won’t use it (lol). Not sure if that is what’s happening or what. When I went outside originally, he was eating, so I wouldn’t assume he’s sick. I have completely left him alone the last couple hours and he is still here. My dogs will need to go back out in another hour. Any tips for finding out if this cutie is ill or needs assistance, or if chilling here isn’t abnormal as it seems?
This has gotta be the cutest and goofiest photo i have gotten of this chonker yet. Definitely emphasizes the adorable pink snoot
