I really dont know what to do in this situation I am in cuz Im afraid to ruin relationships with neighbor. So, we share fence with my neighbor and the fence sticks are from my neighbors side placed. They started going missing. I spoke with neighbors she ignored what I said and gave me her landlords phone number. I called them, I texted them and nobody answers. Then I tried to do something through the homewoners insurance and they said that it is considered as one of the 16 acts of vandalism and that I need to file a police report on them to get the fence fixed. And I ended up calling the non emergency police and they said if I wanna file a police report on this or not. I said straight away that I dont want to ruin the relationships with neighbors and the police guy gave me the phone number of the local police who handles the neighbor issues. They didnt answer and idk should I find the report? Should I let it go and fix the fance out of pocket? What can I do?
How much does a college degree help in the police force?
M17 here, I live in ireland and want to become a garda(police officer) once I leave school. It takes training then 3 years of a standby guard working from the street/office then hopefully become a detective and join the nbci(National Bureau of Criminal investigation) Unit of the guards. It makes sense for me not to waste 4 years for college looking at it from that angle but I've always wanted to go study criminology in college after school too. Do you think a criminology degree could have use to my rising the ranks in the guards and would it be worth the extra years put into it? Thanks.
Where I live a lot of people drive with fake temp tags. What happens if someone buys an old Ontario license plate (Ontario no longer issues expiration stickers on its plates) and puts it on their car? Will the computer on your cruiser alert the officer about a mismatch between the license plate and the car?
Hello,
Canadian here.
Back in March I had a troubled roommate go to the police for a roommate dispute (I live with two roommates, roommate A was the one who went to the police, B is another roommate who was unhappy with A's actions, and I am C). Conflict was related to use of shared spaces, landlord refused to intervene. I am willing to give more details but will keep this short for now.
I found out that she went to the police because a sergeant called me and asked me to take care of it. At that point I had contacted mediation services already, so I let her know. She told me to keep her updated.
Fast forward, the conflict worsened and A refused to talk to a mediator. B and I went to see the sergeant at the station(I tried calling but I don't know why it kept cutting out) to update her, and to let her know that it was out of our hands now.
Shortly after, the sergeant calls me multiple times (I was in a meeting) and when I pick up, she absolutely lays it on me for having a dirty kitchen and bathroom (I don't use the kitchen and I am barely home to use the bathroom) as well as for burning incense, saying she has OCD and hates everything I am doing. I de-escalate by speaking softer and softer until she is calm. She ends the call.
I am quite shaken. I take a few minutes to breathe and noticed that in addition to the private number I spoke to her at, there was a missed call from a number. I decided to call that number back to take my mind off things and it turns out to be the sergeant again.
She asked me to delete the number and I got very suspicious. She started talking more nicely to me, complete 180. I ended the call and for some reason I started having a panic attack.
In that state, uncontrollably sobbing, walked myself to the station to show her pictures of the current state of the house and she took my phone and went into the back of the headquarters. She said she was on my side and then asked for my ethnicity.
This is not my first interaction with police. I have volunteered with police before and they have worked with me on community events. One time I was a victim of domestic abuse and they showed up to help me. So I know that maybe this person was having a bad day or I don't know. I just want to know if maybe this is something I should report because I have finally realized that her behavior might be inappropriate.
I just wish she would've let the mediators handle it instead of yelling at me.
I know y'all deal with way worse on a day to day basis, sorry if this was not the space to post this.
Little background on myself I have been interested in serving my community since I can remember & attempted to join the US Marines a few years back but didn’t make the cut due to asthma on my record from a child(not a problem anymore). I was never the best at school but I feel a passion & desire to educate myself in this field so that I can truly make a difference & enjoy the fruits of the career I wanted to ask unbiased opinions on what current officers believe I should focus on with my end goal being either SRT or SWAT & doing whatever it takes to make there. I am currently working on getting in tip top physical shape I have been around & have experience shooting firearms since I can remember & have a natural ability in calming people down since I work in customer service & sales at the moment selling insurance (top earner at my firm) just looking to actually enjoy my job & feel the impact in what I do for the community. I do have a minor past with addiction to substances which has been long curbed except for marijuana & just want some advice or realistic expectation as to what this means for me moving forward thank you for the help in advance !!
Hello, thanks for reading my post. I am a 30 year old, black male in South Carolina. I am 1 class away from getting my Associates Degree in the Arts(AA).I have not worked in 4 years because I had a close family member become ill and left my job to serve them. I have great credit, home owner, and lived in my state for almost 10 years. I have no criminal record whatsoever, not even a speeding ticket. Do I have a chance at becoming a police officer? Would really love to have this as a career. Thanks again for any advice, I really need some guidance here.
Hi there! If you're a BPA yourself or really know anything about this job please read this! (excuse me for my English or if I'm not clear in what I mean, English isn't my first language)
I'm still young but I would like to become a Border Patrol Agent, possibly in the UK, that's why I'm posting this here. I've tried looking up this job online but I've gotten little to no information about this job, especially about the requirements that need to be met.
Are there any particular medical requirements?
Do I need to graduate from a police academy? or need any specific degree?
and just the usual requirements for this type of job.
Thanks for any help that will be given and for reading through this!! :)
When I exited the military back in the early 1990s, I was considering law enforcement. I remember that the fitness requirements were quite strict (in line with or even surpassing what was required in the USAF).
That being said. Why are SO MANY officers obese? I travel all over this country and it isn't limited to certain pockets...it appears to be a systemic problem. Are there simply no on going fitness requirements?
I'll even see very obese detectives on shows like 48 hours, Dateline, etc.
minnesota copper here. i was just in amish country pennsylvania and i saw a bunch of horses and buggy’s obviously. my question is: if you arrest an amish person for operating while intoxicated… what happens to the horse? 😂 you obviously can’t tow the buggy with the horse so where does it go?😂
Not a cop, but I just had an incident where I needed emergency services but wasn’t able to call! Thankfully through watching 911 the TV show, I knew I could text 911. I googled it to find out if it was a thing in my state, and it is in most counties. The responding officer didn’t know that this was a possibility so I wasn’t sure if other law enforcement and emergency service personnel were aware of this! It’s super easy, just put in 911 in the recipient field and you can text like normal!
Has the left's protests in recent years to defund the police had any direct impact on precinct salaries?
The city i live in is a small rural town neighboring a larger, high crime rate town. because this town is smaller and doesn’t have a high crime rate the requirements are higher. i’ve been looking into becoming an officer here (im 17 atm and the requirement is 21) and they require “60 semester credit hours or 90 quarter credit from an accredited college or university in ANY DISCIPLINE” i’m not sure what any discipline means. could somebody help me out or redirect me to a different sub if this is the wrong one to ask? thank you !
I know nothing about police training / requirements. Are there yearly tests on local and federal law? Do you have to study regularly / often? If so are you paid or do you need to do it in your off time?
Does anyone know how conditional offers work when applying for police departments? I have received two conditional offers from two different departments. I really like both departments so I am-undecided on which one I want to work for. The next step is the background investigation for both departments but both departments want me to accept their conditional offer before moving forward. Which I understand cause it cost money. Can I accept both offers than choose later or is it seen as a commitment once you sign the offer? Kinda running out of time on accepting the offers. However, I don’t want to choose one department over the other than regret I didn’t take the other job. I’m so undecided on which on I want to go with at the moment.
Okay so a couple questions here which I could do with some enlightenment, never had any criminal convictions before but back in June I had to go to court over a train fine, however I went to court and the fine was eliminated and the judge said to me that it was a misunderstanding and that it would not be present on my criminal record and I would not have to pay the £450 pounds fine, Now if I was to do a DBS check, would this show up? Do I need to be cautious? Because when I went to court I was the first one in I went solo ( I'm 19 btw) and I had help from a solicitor who helped me out massively which ended up in me having nothing on my record and I would not have to worry about it and I was able to leave , but would this show up negatively on a dbs check ( when applying for a basic job) I hope not but I'm a little concerned
If you pull someone over and issue them a "fix it" ticket for let's say, a tail light being out, are they expected to get that fixed within a specific amount of time?
As a general population witness to your run-of-the-mill, and sometimes worse, accidents, and traffic, jams, and concert traffic, etc.…
How much training does a typical police officer do on traffic control, and those crazy situations where cars have to be backed out and all of that kind of crazy stuff?
I imagine the more difficult situations are very difficult to handle…and learn how to do?
Are there some police officers who specialize in that mostly or fully? And how respected are they among their peers if so?
Hello! Rookie here. I was just issued all of my "leather" however shortly after unboxing it all, I found that I will want to edit my gunbealt and replace the stiff standard issue items. I figured nobody better to ask than the experienced officers that comprise this subreddit. So, anything from mag pouches, to handcuff pouches, youre favorite boots and sunglasses. What is some gear and good brands that you all suggest? Thank you!
I keep hearing in EMT training that police are doing this now, for example when someone says I can't breathe? Just curious. They make small portable units for this now.
I stayed in school all the way till year 12, but my grades were, D in English, E in math I never showed up, the reason behind all this was it was a rough year (personally) Year 11 though, C in English, A in math. I’m not a bad person, I worked in between got my cert 2 in hospitality in grate 11-12. after year 12 I got my cert 3 in hospitality. I never really gave life a thought, never rlly thought about my future, career, just liked to cook, I was just a quiet, always stayed in the back type of kid. But now I want to be better then just a “chef” not saying chefs aren’t good, it’s just I want to do more. I’m tough, discipline, I show up to the recruiting process and watch videos and listen to police officers, I’m training. Testing my skills. I just scared of failing. Guys got any tips, or advice. First post, don’t rlly know what else to say but if you’ve got questions I’ll happily answer them. Thank you
I engaged in a one night stand with someone from work. At the time he was just a work colleague, but I explained to him it was a drunken mistake and didn’t want to continue any further. I found out he had a hidden camera in his bedroom and recorded us together because soon after, he became my supervisor and threatened to distribute the video to all family, friends, coworkers, and online if I didn’t continue a sexual relationship with him. I regretfully did continue this while I tried to get evidence of the video, which I was able to obtain and I do have. He also threatened to get me fired so he could go after other women on the team, which he succeeded in. He even sent me a stalker text digging into my personal information, and said “I used to do this for a living” when I asked how he got my information. He said it in a threatening manner.
I reported the hidden video and threats to the police, but the police detective assigned ended up ghosting me. I have tried numerous times to get in contact with the detective assigned, but never get a call back. When I call into the general number to see if I can speak to someone else, they just reroute me back to that detective. Because of the police not helping, this has resulted in rape from this guy. The guy is an ex police officer who got fired from his job for sexual assault and harassment towards his female coworkers. This police detective is in the same jurisdiction where he has worked and would likely know the guy. I was told he has a lot of friends and judges in the jurisdiction which could be the reason I’m being ghosted.
Everywhere online says to report something like this to the FBI, but it’s only talking about if it’s for adolescents and teenagers. I’m an adult on my 30’s.
I currently have a medical marijuana card, it was used for pain since my doctor recommended that over pain meds. Said they were much safer with less chance of addiction. I have quit marijuana now and I’m wondering, can I become a police officer? I really need this opportunity. I feel like it’s my calling and it’s the only career I can think of after years of trying to find the right career for me. All arrows point to police, it is what I want to do. Obviously the card will expire and stuff but I am just wondering if this whole thing will prevent me from becoming an officer. Any input is appreciated.
My daughter works in retail snd has recently noticed a specific demographic buying party balloons late at night. The same type of people come in but it's not the same people because they always have to ask directions to find them.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
We're in Helsinki, Finland.
I became disabled a few years ago and wasn’t able to pay my credit cards anymore. Most of the cards went to collections except for one. They threaten to send my case to the DAs office and take further action. I didn’t have money for over 2 years while waiting for SSA disability and as soon as I got approved and got paid eventually, I was going to work out a payment plan with them but I haven’t gotten to it because I’m struggling to get through my days as I live with chronic pain and I have too many Dr appts. I’m struggling to eat and pay my bills. They knocked on my door today when I wasn’t home (which I saw on my Ring camera) but they didn’t leave a note or card or anything and there was nothing in his hands to serve me with. He knocked and then he went and stood on the stairs staring at my door waiting for someone to answer. Is it possible that he was going to arrest me. I’ve never been in this situation before. I don’t want to be in trouble and I would like to make a payment plan but I’m also struggling financially really bad. How can I stop this from getting worse or is it too late for me? Please help me! Thank you!
I'm in NY state. I was taking a nap and woke up to a knock on the door. There were two police officers and they asked if I had placed a 911 call. I hadn't and told them that... But then I remembered I had fallen asleep with my phone and thought maybe I did accidentally place an emergency call so I told them to hang on a sec and let me check my phone. I grabbed my phone and checked but I made no calls at all today and told them that. I did mention that we only moved into this two weeks ago but they didn't seem to think that would have anything to do with it. They asked me for my name, birthday, and phone number though. I just got out of a relationship with a conspiracy nut who would have given me hell for "willingly giving up my information" and now I've got all kinds of stuff going through my head even though I haven't done anything wrong. Just wondering why they needed my info.
I just recently bought a wired in-ear piece from sheepdogmics.com.....right after I received it I got email for their bluetooth in-ear piece......so have any of you had experience with these on patrol.....I like the Hassel of not dealing with wires thoughts?????
I need to find a good mobile printer for law enforcement to use in their patrol cars. Have any of you worked with one before? What model? Was it reliable? Please share your experience
How often do people who get pulled over and admit to drinking get field sobriety tests vs not?
