You have the time to read a poem today; come here and find something new and interesting to satisfy that niche.

Here you will find a collection of awesome poems to read; here you may share and talk about awesome poetry. Post links to your favorite published poetry (contemporary or classic) that you enjoy so that others can enjoy them as well!

There are a few rules by which everyone here should abide:

  1. This is a subreddit for published poetry you love, not poetry you wrote. Don’t post your own work unless it’s in an edited publication, and don’t post reviews, news or articles, stories for workshop, prompts, story collections, etc. (There’re other subreddits for that stuff.)
  2. Don’t downvote; discuss. Comments should be somewhat effortful.
2a. No slander, negging, trolling, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, etc. Be polite.
  3. Feel free to type up poems by published authors that you cannot find online. Otherwise, links to poems/publications are preferred.
  4. Don’t spam.
  5. Format submissions like so: Author – “Title”
5a. Include the publication information in a comment with your submission (e.g., book/journal/website, publisher, year, etc.).
5b. If it’s a PDF or some other wonky format, put [PDF] or [DOC] or what-have-you after the title.

Please report anything that breaks the rules and I will remove it (except for #5: breaking that rule will only elicit mild scorn).

(I know that the nature of the internet makes the notion of publication rather slippery, but please use your best judgment by avoiding things like self-published ebooks or blog posts or 4chan posts, etc. I just want to be able to click a link and read a good story.)

Organize by NEW to see today's poems.

Daniil Kharms - "First Epistle To Marina"

I will not love you for the silence
that you keep, my dearest friend.
And, having lost love, I'll forget you
and never suddenly recall.

Whether silence, trickery or malice
has split the chalice of our love,
the talisman of keeping silent
will never fill the cup.

But if you can but say a word,
utter even the smallest sound,
my love for you will be ignited,
and with a new strength it will rebound.

august 19th, 1935 from story and poem collection "Today I Wrote Nothing" translated from Russian by Matvei Yankelevich.
