I was unable to make that mini chaingun revision video i mentioned a while ago due to a computer failure caused by a power outage. So this is some footage i scraped up during my time filming, this was supposed to be part of the ending segment of the video. :\

Some outfit war assets really need addressing

This is something I am gonna keep brief and not gonna go on a long discussion listing in details just gonna mention some of the top issues I think are ruining gameplay.

First is obvious Orbital Strikes, they have got to go.

This shouldn't even be a debate given pocket orbitals ever since they got implemented have ruined battle in general and somewhat render the OSU construction useless, imagine engaging in the usual intense battles Planetside 2 is known for only to then have it fu*ked up by these outfit members unexpectedly dropping a couple nukes on the facility and killing several friendlies and spawns, like this kind of thing is getting outrageous. Best thing would be to just leave orbitals locked at the OSU and construction, as that would greatly reduce the OS spam and give more reason to make use of construction.

    Second the Steel Rain

Really needs to be nerfed in some form or other, as this is probably about as annoying as orbital strike spam but in another way, allowing whole platoons to just zerg on a heavily contested base and either immediately flip it or steal the cap by dropping right down right on the cap point and no means of intercepting and also kind of makes Galaxies near useless as back in the days before this when a Galaxy would fly over and drop an airborne squad was more enjoyable and you could actually counter this by shooting down the Galaxies either with AA or ESFs, you barely see that anymore partially cause this is obviously better. Proposal I have to help stop sudden cap steals and pop dumping is Steel Rain will require having a spawn beacon, Sunderer or Galaxy belonging to the squad, in other words instead of being able to randomly choose a location you will have to choose a beacon or spawn vehicle for the drop pods to deploy to, this will greatly reduce the steel rain exploiting and backcaps. There may need to be some things changed on this idea but this is a simple concept on how to address the issue.

Some readers may disagree with what I am proposing which is fine but to me it seems the game has been more fu*ked up since war assets became what they are today.

Post submission issues through late November-present

    Hello everyone

Several folks have sent the mod team messages reporting that they could not submit posts due to account age or insufficient account karma, despite clearly meeting our minimum requirements.

We've checked our automod settings and every subreddit setting and it's not something on our end.

The current theory is that it's a problem with the mobile app. If you're encountering issues with submitting posts or comments, please try the following:

    1. Let us mods know via modmail so we can try to figure out what the common factor here is. Please include what version of the subreddit you're using (which app version/old or new desktop site).

    2. Try using the desktop version of the site or navigating to old.reddit.com using your mobile browser.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and it'd be cool if this site stopped getting worse.

Back in the game after 10 years, it is as fun as i remember but i need help figuring some stuff out

After perhaps 10 years of AFK from planetside i started playing again last week and well, i'm having loads of fun again !

The game balance feels quite right, i do miss my old deployed prowler from hundreds of meters away just left clicking to delete vehicles/planes/players/you name it before getting C4ed because moving was too mainstream.

I'm looking for a TR outfit on miller BTW, if you know any that is recruiting i'm interested, all of those i know are now very very inactive unfortunately...

I am however lost at the amount of new elements in the game, so i have a few questions about some stuff if some of you don't mind TL:DRing me, if not i'll find out while playing eventually :

    • I saw some Marvel-looking huge flying carrier or smth, i'm guessing this can be pulled through outfits but how can you use them ? what do they do ? are they the source of flying vehicles that kinda look like ESFs but aren't ?
    • Oshur and it's directives are a mystery to me
    • Fishing ?
    • some bases with capture points have buildable/destroyable buildings, how does it work ?
    • multiple beacons per squad ?
    • What is the ASP program ? what kind of added value does it have ? (i'm currently BR 102, is there a reason not to spend the 10k certs ?)
    • What is the use of sanctuary ? i cannot speak to any NPC there somehow.

All in all, love the game again.

Cheers and see you on miller

Why is the Implant grind still insane

First of all haven’t touched the game in years saw a clip on YT and felt the itch to hop back in and see what’s what

The clip was of a carapace medic point holding and farming on the entrance. So I wanted to try it out, log I. Check if I have Carapace unlocked? Nope

    Can I unlock it ?

Nope 45K to craft when the ISO gains only mildly improved or my other option to drop few hundreds $ for a CHANCE to get it

I don’t think months long grinds do any favours to keep returning or new players playing a game on its last legs

I’m not saying make the damn implant free but 45K come on… at least make it a 10k or something

    Could you imagine?

A world where Planetside 2 is being treated as an FPS game that it is?

This is a drunken rant from an FPS player that has been playing this game since 2014 when I first fell in love with the game. If you don't wanna read snide remarks and critiques about the game and about the playerbase, downvote the thread now and leave. If you want to dream on with me, keep reading.

    Could you imagine...

A world where after 30 minutes of gameplay, a new player gets a message saying:

Hey, you are dying a lot more than you are killing. That's normal for new players. This game is a little different than other first person shooters because it has an MMO element to it, and our veterans have adapted to it. Don't worry. You're still gonna be in first person, shooting at people, 90% of the time, but here's why our shooter is different:

<Lists land vehicles and air vehicles, one by one, explaining the Sunderer in particular because it's the most important vehicle>

    Could you imagine...

A world where after 10 hours of gameplay, a new player gets a message saying:

Hey! We see you are shooting 20% accuracy and head shot ratio! This is a PvP FPS game, first and foremost. We pointed out that vehicles exist, but for the most part, tanks should worry about other tanks and ESFs should worry about other ESFs (<explains what ESFs are>). 90% of your gameplay is gonna be you being in first person shooting at people. You need to work on your aim!

    Is your CM/360 between 20 CM/360 and 50 CM/360?

Yes? Congratulations! Disregard this message, because you have been taught basic FPS mechanics already.

No? Well that's perfectly fine. Remember, you're playing a PvP FPS game! Shooting requires precision and unlike our competitors we are not protecting you from player that are better than you, the same way we are not protecting players that are worse than you from you, so you need to lower your sensitivity if you want to get better at the game. We know. It's hard to do that when you are used to high sensitivity, but it's essential when it comes to aiming in FPS games (and this is, first and foremost, an FPS game!). We recommend you shoot at the enemy head and not their torso or God forbid their legs. When you first lower down your sensitivity to the range specified (which is the sensitivity most good FPS players use, most professional FPS players too) it's gonna feel awful and sluggish. Fret not! In about 2 to 3 hours of gameplay, you are gonna start training your muscle memory to use your ENTIRE ARM to aim, not JUST YOUR WRIST. Important thing to remember, as a rule of thumb is that you aim with your arm, not your wrist. This is basic advice every FPS player in existence is gonna give you. This is why you shoot at the head, always and every time. With time, you will learn a weapon's recoil pattern and spread that is very simple in our game! Do not listen to people who tell you to shoot at the torso and let the weapon's recoil guide you to their head, this is terrible advice for FPS players, despite what some people might tell you. SHOOT AT THEIR HEAD. Headshots reward you for getting better, and you should always strive to get better, after all, you're an FPS player playing an FPS game. Don't have enough desk space? Clear out your desk! FPS players need a lot of desk space in order to competitively aim. If you don't have a large mousepad, fret not! Clear desk space is sufficient to train you in this for now. We still recommend a decent mousepad or deskpad, but for now, just clear out your desk if you don't have one. Don't have enough desk space? Sorry. You must have taken the wrong turn. This is an FPS game, first and foremost, so may we recommend you try out our other games like DCUO or Everquest? Those games are not FPS games and FPS players need desk space.

    Could you imagine...

After 100 hours of gameplay a players gets a message saying:

Congratulations! You have improved your aim and you are now shooting 25% accuracy and head shot ratio! You are really starting to get invested, aren't you?

Well, our team has designed bases that have transferable logic to them. Our community has come up with names for our base designs such as triple stacks and banana buildings. You're a true FPS player now and if you want to further your skills in our different kind of shooter, you should learn our base designs. A lot of them are copy-paste but that's not necessarily a bad thing! We offer a variety of base designs on a macro level that will only impact the micro level, AKA individual soldier skill. If you learn what a triple stack is, you will do well, because even if a base design on a macro level is slightly different, on a micro level you are still a soldier and you will be able to connect the dots. Amerish or Indar, doesn't matter to you at this point, most of the bases should have a similar feeling to you. See, this is the hidden RPG element we put into the game. One culture, at its core, has designed these bases, the Terran Republic, before they split into three. If you catch this detail, you have an RPG player in you, but you stuck for over 100 hours so it doesn't matter, you're first and foremost an FPS player. You are starting to learn the repetitiveness of the bases, aren't you? You are learning how to position better and take advantage out of the copy-pasted design, aren't you? We are proud of you. Tech Plant or Bio Lab, it hardly matters to you now, doesn't it? You are starting to learn that there are patterns you can take advantage of here, and that's what we want, players like you are who we are targeting with our game.

    Could you imagine...

After 1000 hours of gameplay a player gets a message saying:

Congratulations! You kept on improving and your accuracy and head shot ratio are up to 30% now! Man, you are a true FPS player now. You now have transferable skills, whether you know it or not. If you stopped playing our game now and went on to another, we are confident you would be amazing at that game. You learned not only how to aim but also how to chain kill with heavy assault and position well. We are glad to be able to teach you the ways of FPS games or, if you were already an FPS player, we glad you found a gem in our game. At this point, the only thing we would recommend to you is to challenge yourself and start fighting more people at once. Start fighting overpops. You see, we were afraid and we walked a thin line between an FPS and an MMO. In the end, we are glad to have been true to ourselves and kept the game as an FPS first, which it is, and an MMO second.

I mean, in an alternate reality where the majorty of our playerbase are non FPS players, we could have compressed the skillgap to the point of alienating our playerbase to a point where our best players have been decreasing in KDR with time despite increasing in skill, say, from 4.5 KDR in 2016 to 3 KDR in 2024. That's not even to mention people like Lex, who are in 1% of aimers that can do 40% accuracy and head shot ratio who have been ignored for years. Could you imagine such a world as an FPS player? Literally being rewarded for improving by being able to be killed more easily by worse players than you with things that are only now being looked at like the Infiltrator class, or the fact that shotguns and scout rifles are being buffed over and over again... That could never be our game, no... Overpop dump is something an RPG developer would push, not us.

    Could you imagine...

(Discussion of creative exercise) If they were to add robot dogs to the game, how would you like or want them to be?

Example: Would you like melee robot dogs or ones with guns?

Could they be used only by 1 specific class?

Would you want them to just follow and assist you or take orders like defend points?

Would you want there to be a timer for spawning them?

What would you like to see them do if you wanted them around?

It's been years since I've played. What happened to smoke bolts for the crossbow? They're gone and I miss them.

I miss using them to help myself and others revive downed players and planting turrets that enemies can't see.

    Freezing and crashing issue

It happens every 30 minutes to 1 hour that my game randomly freezes, the sound keeps repeating constantly then without any warning after it's frozen for 2 minutes it crashes to the desktop. I have no idea how to fix it, any ideas?

I tried checking the game files using the Planetside 2 dedicated launcher, didn't work
I tried reinstalling the game, didn't work
I tried lowering settings, didn't work

It happens randomly, sometimes during a gunfight, other times during a warp or redeployment.

What changed with infils since Oshur?

I stopped playing somewhere before Oshur. I just wanted to play other games. Infils were never an issue back when I played. Heavy and medic would win majority of head on engagements on major routes in base, since they have simply better weapons and abilites for that by every metric.. Infils and LAs would win engagements with better positioning. If heavy decides to take a different route throught the base, hes prey. What changed since then to make the infils an issue?

I just don't see it mentioned and I would think THAT would be the thing to revert? Not random changes everybody is proposing to take away all the element of surprise from infils.

It's very reminiscent of old threads about nerfing shotguns we used to have once a month like 5 years ago. People would kill themselves by cluelessly taking terrible routes and feeding LAs and then complain they should be able to win EVERY engagement just by their aim, no matter how many mistakes they made.

EDIT: forgot about bolt actions without scopes. Yeah that always went against the whole point of infil. Fix those

EDIT 2: Ok thanks for clarifying. No point arguing with everyone one by one on every tiny point. Looks like #1 complaint is just ego issue where people can't accept that they lost the fight before they fired a shot. Expecting to have counterplay after they already served themselves up for easy kill. Same as when people complained that single LA can kill a sunderer if nobody even tries to protect it for half a minute.

    What's up with construction hate?

Hi there. I consider myself somewhat of a construction main, building checkpoints, setting up artillery or just supplying Cortium to nearby silos so understand this post comes from a person biased towards construction.

With that out of the way, why does it seem like everyone around me hates construction? I swear not a week goes by without someone telling me to uninstall for building an orbital strike beacon.

Constructions are just as easily destroyed as they are set up in my experience, except the destruction part usually takes less time than set-up. Harassing a player-made base is also stupidly easy for a single infiltrator and annoying to deal with unless the base is actively defended by more than two people.

Artillery options aren't unfair either. Glaive is a joke, Flail cannot fire into bases, and OSB not only has a long charge-up time before it can be useful at all, it also broadcasts its location when you're near it.

I just don't understand what's with the hate against construction being in the game at all and I would like to hear why the other side has issues with it.

Terran Republic is stupid fun as a Blue.

People know me by now, I'm an NC Main for years with a bit of a crybaby reputation, sticking to the Blue out of sheer spite and complaining about the rest here and there. But I finally crossed that line, I got so fed up with never having real fun with the NC kit, constantly playing against the same players that are better than me. I made a TR Alt and benched my Blue, for the time being.

And I'm having a stupid amount of fun. The Kindred is fun. The Prowler and Kingsnake is fun, the Mosquito is fun to fly and I have been won over by the BRRRT that I hated so much.

I regretfully brought some of my NC-itis over and accidentally Teamkilled on my second session. It's been difficult to not shoot red.

Weapons on TR that need attention and proposal

Like yeah there are quite a number of weapons on all factions that need looking into for under performance or being near overpowered but given I am a TR player I'm gonna obviously look at my home faction first and the various weapons that are either underperforming on the scoreboard or just not being used much cause they are so poorly set up stats wise and not performing as well as they should. So where to begin?

Gonna I guess start at the Arbalest given this has a rep of being one of the most disliked weapons among Combat Medic players based on its unusual setup of being a burst firing weapon with some of the worst cone of fire and accuracy of any TR gun. Like it's practically more a shotgun than an assault rifle, why it remains effective at close quarters, longer range shots is where it's performing worst, one thing I propose is giving it a secondary 3x burst mode that will reduce a lot of the recoil more just replacing it with a bit of vertical recoil to allow more accurate shooting down range and landing headshots. Or better yet rework the 6x burst to be a secondary mode with less recoil and for better control and by default the gun is fully automatic as some other TR assault rifles easily beat it by comparison especially counterparts of the other factions.

Since on the topic of assault rifles, the T1B Cycler, this is basically the same gun as the T1 Cycler, same model and very similar stats aside from clip and firing, this gun honestly should just be removed and the regular starting T1 Cycler given a secondary 3x burst mode to improve its versatility, be beneficial for newer players learning the ropes.

The TX1 Repeater, now this is pretty minor but regards its old stats as it used to be able to swap between 3x burst and semi-auto kind of like the Inquisitor but that got changed at some point back in 2018 with no real reason given (many weapons that didn't need to be touched were that year honestly), having this allowed more versatility of landing longer ranged shots when having to swap to pistol as the 3x burst is only good for closer range.

Next is about the Dragoon, why definitely pretty decent in its current setup, could be better especially when compared to its counterparts the Bishop and Obelisk, why it do be decent it has some features that are frankly almost meanless. It's automatic which makes it kind of decent for laying down fire from range though the vertical recoil is outrageous, and for hipfire the CoF is so crap it's not even funny with how all over the place it is, and this is after it finally got buffed slightly after like 4 years, seriously whoever coded this gun was clearly not paying attention. First off TR guns are supposed to be themed around lots of ammo and large magazines and for awhile it had a smaller mag than the Bishop by default, nowadays they both have 10 shots by default with it increased to 13 by the Heavy Mag attachment. To address the recoil it has the single fire barrel attachment which completely changes the gun to be semi-auto and reduces the recoil, great having to invest more certs in a near pointless attachment when you can easily control the firing with your finger but have to deal with the recoil and completely renders the automatic part about this gun useless. This really needs to be changed up the CoF especially for hipfire needs to be reworked to be more accurate and the recoil reduced a little to make better usage of the gun being automatic and landing mid range shots with hipfire. Next is the ammo, the gun should at least have 12 rounds by default and heavy mag increasing it to 15 given 10 wouldn't be enough for what else I have in mind and the fact TR guns are normally supposed to have more ammo and most total damage compared to other factions. A new feature to replace the single-fire barrel is an attachment that gives a secondary firing mode that makes the barrels spin and able to fire 3x bursts intended to kill closer range targets, kind of intended as a rival counterpart to the Obelisk Safety Override attachment. The Explosive Ammo is another attachment that is somewhat useful for sniping groups of enemies or someone behind cover but again that is just a minor annoyance overall especially when it could take like 5 or 6 shots (what I have counted) to kill a player when shooting the ground right at their feet or a wall they are right again, the AOE damage definitely could use a buff like raised to 225 dmg at the 1m and 150 dmg at 2m, a small addition would be the Explosive Bullets can do slight extra damage to light armor, MAXes, ESFs and Valks like 10-15 more and allows to inflict light 5-10 damage on heavy armor such as tanks and the Liberator or Galaxy, just for the heck of it to make it more versatile and worth using, allowing maybe an Infiltrator to finish off a fleeing tank with like less than 20 HP left.

Another big one is the DAGR-81 anti-material rifle. One of the main issues I myself and some other players I have spoken to have with it is how low of range the headshot multiplier is or used to be IDK if that was ever addressed. The sights should really be changed up to like maybe be adjustable like Tigerband scope can zoom between 6x and 8x, Lockstep A10/A12 ofc able to zoom between 10x and 12x, with default sight being maybe 4x sometimes 6x is too close for engaging MAXes or infantry at medium ranges and really limits field of view around the target you're shooting at. Another thing I would like to add is the DAGR should be changed to be semi-auto and maybe 2 extra bullets by default giving it a little more TR flavor and be more unique to the other factions as all 3 empire AMRs are bolt action with some distinct differences with NC having basically a bolt action burster, Vanu one able to shoot through infantry, TR one can be semi-auto and larger mags.

The Claymore mine. Really not much to say except on the fact it was made a lot less effective after a detonation time nerf but other thing is by comparison to its counterparts on the other facs it's basically a regular mine with less AOE but a bit higher damage in the direction it explodes however detonation time and less radius means it often times gets easily avoided by someone sprinting past it, the min damage range should be IMO raised to 7.5 meters as a way to make up for lack of a circular AOE by having a longer range in a single direction given that is how claymores operate, would allow for the claymore to more likely guarantee a kill and possibly injure 1 or 2 others standing right behind the victim, a small addition is having a indicator like an arrow on the HUD to show the correct way to place it as funny enough a significant number of players especially newer ones dont know right away the correct way to place them and that is likely a contributor to why it underperforms a little. Even now I still see them placed facing the wrong way around doorways and control points in big fights.
