Countries where the documentary will be shown are being added to the Placebo website! I hope more countries and cities make the list in the next weeks. So check in time to time! ;)
Anyone who has attended the documentary screening or might know anyway - how come there was not a single word about Steven Hewlit? Like he never ever existed at all and the whole project has always been a duo? Just wondering.
Upon arrival we were given wristbands and there was a red carpet photo area where a photographer took pics of attendees, mostly of the guest list I think. We then went into the screen room, which was set up with the goody bags on each chair.
Documentary time, the film featured a combination of interviews with the band, other artists, some precious older footage which they mentioned was from their archive, and footage of the band performing several songs from NLMG in studio. As each song was played the key theme around it was discussed in the documentary. They touched upon a lot of subjects, from personal to broader themes around mental health, substance abuse, relationships, politics, surveillance culture, the overall state of the world.. the other artists featured were Shirley Manson from Garbage, Yungblud, Joe Talbot, Stuart Semple, and Benedict Cumberbatch and a few more who all discussed Placebo’s cultural and musical influence over the years and well as how they impacted them personally. In the Q&A they were asked if they had pre existing relationships with all these artists and they said some yes and some were a surprise, like they didn’t know Benedict Cumberbatch was a fan prior.
There was a lot on their relationship with David Bowie, and how much that relationship taught them, especially Brian. It was very emotional and felt special to see some of the archive footage of them together. Brian later mentioned that he keeps 3 post-its on his bathroom wall, one that says be kind, the second I completely forgot sorry, and the third says David Bowie to always remind him of who he was, what a gentlemen he was will all people he encountered.
The part of the documentary that talks about substance abuse, Brian spoke about how it was a coping mechanism for him for a very long time. They showed footage of them being wasted and it was a bit hard to watch, at the same time giving us some very genuine, vulnerable moments of their journey. They later said in the Q&A that they had to step out of the screening for that part as it was too difficult for them to watch it again.
There was talk about politics, and how everything apart from our relationships is political. Also touched upon religion, and as always found it fascinating to get their views on these wider subjects. On the subject of religion, Brian quoted Bowie’s famous words “religion is for people who fear hell, spirituality is for people who have been there”
In the Q&A they expanded upon the above mentioned, and were also asked what’s next. Brian said he is going to hibernate for winter and that they will be taking a break so they can go away, be apart from Placebo for a while and come back ready for what’s next. More music, definitely.
Overall it was a really special evening, it was great to connect with the band in this different kind of way and the documentary is brilliant. I am hoping they will release it in their merch store, I believe all Placebo fans would enjoy it deeply.
For those interested, attending guests included Yungblud, Fiona Brice, the extended band of course, Angela, Nick and Matt, Cody and his band, and his mother Helena. There may have been more but these are the ones I saw personally
I really couldn't get in to Loud Like Love or Battle for the Sun.
Both have some good songs on them, but as overall pieces of work, they just didn't appeal to my pallet.
I was kind of expecting NLMG to follow in the same vein. I really liked Beautiful James when it came out, but wasn't too keen on Surrounded by Spies at first.
It took a few listens but now the album has really grown on me and I actually love it.
Pretty much all the songs are great, but shout out to my favourites:
In my opinion, it's the best album since Meds... in fact, I could maybe even dare to say since Sleeping With Ghosts. Meds is a brilliant album which I love, but I might actually find that there are more songs on the new album that I would skip to or play individually than there are on Meds.
There seems to be a lot of complaints about the band on this sub.
As a fan of 25+ years, I am super happy that one of my favourite bands is still releasing consistently great music.
If they don't want to engage with the audience at their shows, that's just fine by me. I'd rather they have 5 mins to play an extra song than wasting time cracking jokes and telling everyone that they're the best audience they have ever played for.

So we got some pics for the ones waiting, they look good!

To any of those lucky enough to have been at the movie premiere, what were some of the inspirational, insightful and beautiful moments you were lucky enough to witness both from the Q&A and the movie?
Selling one ticket for today’s screening in London, face value £74.25, as unable to attend, unfortunately. DM for details.
Hello to you, dear soulmates! Who has already left the cinema where the documentary was shown, how did you like it? Please retell your impressions and facts from the film, I beg you! I am in Kazakhstan and I seriously doubt that the film will be shown in the local cinema. I only hope for your understanding and support.
Are fanfictions illegal?
In the U.S., the Fair Use principle applies, which allows for the adaptation of foreign works under certain conditions. However, this is somewhat vague, as it states: "Fan works can function as free advertising and promotion for the original material."
Here, we are dealing with the fact that the story is not being rewritten or continued, but real living people are involved. In Europe, there are laws that specifically address this issue, and it is clearly stated what is allowed and what is not in terms of fanfiction.
Mikon, your fanfictions are completely unacceptable! It is obvious that personality rights are being violated. The fact that these involve celebrities does not change anything. They also have the right to "protection of personal honor" and "the right to their own name."
Does anyone want to discuss that would be freedom of speech?
Freedom of speech is legally defined: all opinions are fundamentally worthy of protection, regardless of whether they are valuable or worthless, provocative or harmless. Even exaggerated and sharp statements fall under freedom of expression. False statements of truth are illegal and in most cases even punishable. Falsehoods include not only lies but also deliberately incomplete reporting.
EU copyright: special regulations for "pastiche," including adaptations of photos, cover versions, remixes of songs, selfdrawn comics, self-created Memes, fanfictions, and cosplay that are published online.
In principle, photos, videos, melodies, caricatures, animations, and drawings are protected by copyright law. The copyright holder alone can decide what, when, where, and how to use their work. Just as there are rules in U.S copyright for "advertising and promotion," there are also regulations in Europe: "...only for privileged purposes." One cannot simply write anything and label it as a caricature, poem, art or fanfic.
We do not live in the middle ages, where people were hunted down to be burned as witches. Nor in ancient Rome, where someone would be thrown to the lions for pure entertaining.
How should fanfics be structured to be legally safe?
I wonder if we will see any pictures, footage anything from it. I'm sure taking pictures or video will not be prohibited but maybe we will get a glimpse at something.I so bad want to see this I'm impatient.
Hi, it’s my first time posting here. I just found out that I will be in London on Thursday, so I am wondering if anyone is maybe selling 1 or 2 tickets for the film screening? I already joined the wait list on Dice, but I don’t have high hopes. Any help is appreciated 😊
Long time fan of both, but just recently saw the direct corelation between "The Cure" and "Placebo" as band names. Is this a well known fact, a discovery or a post covid conspiracy theory?
Hi, I was asking myself if there will be a possibility to buy the documentary in any form ( DVD or other forms)? As my chances of seeing it in the cinema are pretty low. I am so hyped to see it, so I am a little concerned not being able to watch it. Also any guesses when it will be available?

Thought this was a nice point of comparison to Placebo. Thoughts welcome.
Artists/celebrities don't owe their fans/followers anything other than basic human respect and to not to waste your money. The levels of entitlement from some of you are just child like level.
Things that Brian Molko/Placebo doesn't owe you:
-To have a friendly/joyful attitude towards you during m&g (as long as they are respectful to you). On the same note, they don't owe you physical touch or conversation. -Extra words on signed merchandise -Hell, they dont even have to like you or their fans at all.
They are just doing their job, wich is to provide us with music and we pay for that music/live shows/merch in return. And that's it. They are as human as any of us, and you need to start seeing them as such. And if you dont like the fact that they have free will to actitud as they want, Stop giving them money. You arent chained to them either.
You are not the center of your favorite artist's universe, ffs.
Holy crap I have seen it about 200 times. Everything about it is amazing. Wish I had been there.
What a whirlwind of a day 😂 booked premiere tickets, trains and hotel (£400 spent today) only to be told that Brian & Stef won’t be there in person lolololol Anyways been trying to justify the trip - hotel & train are non-refundable. I’m now thinking there will be a “live” conversation via Zoom but the only questions asked will be pre-determined and it will be the journalist asking them, not the fans. I highly doubt Brian will show his face on camera. I’m honestly stunned that Brian & Stef cannot be there in person for their own premiere and don’t get me started on the cost of the film etc etc. How the hell this huge fuck up was allowed to happen I have no idea. We will still go and try to make a trip out of it. I hear people have booked flights and will be out of pocket more than us 😫 Why oh why didn’t they just advertise it clearly in the first place….
Just saw the new docu is coming out soon. On the website it says it's their second feature length documentary. I can't seem to find the first. Any help? Thank.
Ok so my dumb ass booked flights and hotel and paid the price of this premier ticket. Are they going to be there physically or not? Has anyone contacted the event organizer? Shitty communication beyond belief if this will be pre-recorded/zoom etc...
I found this using on Placebo's official website using the wayback machine, this is from the year 2000 (when the website was called the brick shithouse). Has anyone ever seen these t-shirt designs before ? Does anyone own them ?
It seems like they hate touring, they dislike any kind of interaction with fans, and also their communication regarding their live appearances has been unidirectional, cold and misleading lately... What's going on? Maybe they hate us? Hahaha, Idk :')
Did anyone else who got tickets to the London premiere just get this email? I’m so confused, the event lineup said “live conversation” - I wasn’t expecting them to perform but I thought they would have a seated interview style convo at the end as standard with film premieres. I’ll still go, but feeling a little bamboozled
Looks to be a very special and interesting evening 🖤
for those who are not subscribed to the TSFM newsletter, we received an email with the link to the pre-sale for the London premiere (so jealous of those who can be there). but besides that, there's a 'request screening' button that redirects us to the 'Bands in Town' website, where we can enter the city we're interested in watching it. let’s do that!
p.s.: it takes a few minutes to get the verification code by email to confirm the request.
