Welcome to Pinsect, the only subreddit dedicated to pinning insects

When making a post or leaving a comment, please keep these few things in mind;

  • Not everyone has the same interest level, and not everyone has the same skill level, please be polite, helpful, and just please don't be an asshole.

  • Whenever I figure out how to do it, it would be awesome if everyone would tag their posts. I really like to try identifying organisms, so I (and I'm sure other redditors) would be happy to help with "unknown" species.

  • I will leave this sub public because I want as many people to be involved as possible, but if it gets out of hand, I will add more restrictions.

Check out some of our friends!

My first attempt at pinning an insect of any kind. My hands were shaking but I'm still really proud of the outcome!

My Dorcus reichei died so I tried to pin him. I couldn't bring myself to pierce through the abdomen so instead I just went through the small gaps on either side to help keep him still. I was just wondering how I can mount him on to a frame?

Second time pinning a dragonfly. Tail got burnt up in the sun. Are pinned insects able to sit in the sun or should I provide some shade?

Is it possible to pin smaller spiders?

I've heard that most spiders can't be pinned due to them either rotting or shriveling up or something, but would that be as much of an issue on a spider maybe a couple of cm across?

The most rewarding part of this hobby to me is when I can finally unpin my specimens and see how beautiful they look. Here is an Eastern Hercules Beetle and a Rhino Beetle
