Canadian pin-ups! WRU?

Hi Canadian pin-ups I hope this reaches you! I'm an Australian pinup and I'm heading to Canada to the Vernon/Kelowna area in a few weeks and in hoping there might be some worthwhile stores to visit. Full disclosure I have been to the area before quite a bit and have searched but maybe I'm not looking right, sometimes you need someone "in the know". Also I know I'm trying my luck given in not going to a major city here but I just have to ask. Please forgive if this makes very little sense I'm pre-coffee 😴

Styling suggestions for a photoshoot

Hello! I have a shoot coming up and I was thinking of doing glam and wearing either the short Million Dollar Baby dress by Elle Rebel in Emerald Green, Black, or the full length version in hot pink (photos of all on the creators site here: https://ellerebel.com/search?type=product&q=million+dollar )

I'm stuck on how to style them. I am plus size with shorter honey-blonde hair. I can usually do a Marilyn Monroe type look, but I don't know what kind of accessories to style with, or how to do my hair.

Ideas so far:

- fancy jewlery set in green, blue, or pink like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09PH8QPXF/?coliid=I39YAI5VZ13KB3&colid=29XUGXHFWKNV4&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it
- white elbow-length gloves (not sure if these would look right)
- fancy jewled hair comb
- plain black pumps like these: https://memery.us/collections/1950s-shoes/products/50s-peep-toe-vintage-style-in-suede-black-margaret or should I do leather rather than suede?
- glass and/or bottle of champagne in my hand with a velvet curtain background

What do you guys think? Normally I LOVE putting looks together but I am stumped since this is last minute. Do you have any suggestions? I am all ears!

How do you store your bangles?

I do pinup pageants and have accumulated a lot of bangles to go with my looks, and don't really have an effective way to store them!

I was originally using a paper towel holder, but I ran out of space and it was a huge disaster every time I needed one from the bottom. Do you ladies have any creative ways of storing and easily accessing your bangles?

KirstieMyDear from Instagram/YouTube

I used to follow a pinup influencer by the account name KirstieMyDear, and I saw a picture of her on Pinterest today and started looking her up. Nothing turned up! No Instagram or YouTube anymore. Does anyone know what happened to her? I loved her posts!

Cold weather boots for pinups?

I'm going to a very cold country (snow on the ground in some places) for a few weeks and I need some warm but also comfortable shoes as we will be walking around a lot!! I live in a hot place so I don't really know what kind of boots to get! I need something that will look good with my usual pinup and vintage style, planning on wearing pants for obvious reasons (vixen palazzos/ cigarettes/ 40s style sailor cut/ wide legs etc). Does anyone have any recommendations please?

What You Need to Know About the "New" Collectif Relaunch

As a former employee, I wanted to provide some context about what has really been happening behind the scenes at Collectif over the past few years, especially as the company is now relaunching under new ownership.

The Relaunch Isn’t as "New" as It Seems: Despite the fresh branding, many of the same individuals responsible for Collectif's toxic environment and abusive behavior are still involved. These people not only made the decisions that led to the company’s decline but actively encouraged and participated in the abusive culture. Their return to leadership under the guise of a "new" Collectif shows that little has truly changed.

A Culture of Abuse and Toxicity: The work environment at Collectif was deeply abusive on multiple levels. While I won’t go into specifics due to their triggering nature, those involved in this relaunch were complicit in that toxic culture. They cannot be trusted to lead a new iteration of the brand after failing to uphold basic standards of respect and integrity. Upper management exhibited blatant disdain for the counterculture that initially built the brand. The abuse was rampant, even external partners faced mistreatment. The situation worsened with the arrival of a new CEO in May 2023, where some of the worst behaviors were not just tolerated but actively encouraged. Extreme micromanagement, lack of delegation, and an oppressive work culture led directly to the company’s decline. The responsibility for this toxic environment lies squarely with this leadership team, yet they are being given another chance to lead. I implore you, do not support this "new" Collectif.

Size Inclusivity, Price Increases, and Quality Issues: The new owner of Collectif is the same factory whose higher production costs forced the brand to raise prices in the past. Despite repeated pleas, they refused to manufacture sizes above UK 20, only agreeing to produce size 22 in very small batches. Not only did the factory refuse to go beyond that, but the idea of making larger sizes was openly mocked by many on the management team. Additionally, the quality of the factory's output was often poor, with many items having issues like seam slippage, misaligned prints, and faded colors. Large amounts of stock were either rejected or sold despite these errors. This lack of inclusivity and quality highlights where the priorities of the new ownership lie.

Poor Leadership Drove the Brand's Collapse: Collectif’s downfall was not purely caused by external market forces. It stemmed from mismanagement, poor decision-making, and a disregard for what made the brand special. Leadership consistently pushed personal agendas instead of focusing on the brand’s core values, which led to a decline in both product quality and workplace morale.

If you care about ethical business practices, inclusivity, and supporting brands that treat their employees and customers with respect, I encourage you to think twice before supporting the 'new' Collectif. Given the widespread issues of power abuse in the retail industry, it's worth considering how our purchasing decisions might inadvertently support such behavior.

Where do you find your vintage-inspired winter coats?

I had my eye on one from Collectif in the summer but was waiting for Autumn before making my purchase but as you may know, they've closed down! I'm UK-based so websites that are British or European are preferred to keep shipping costs down but I'd also consider US sites if their international shipping isn't super expensive.

Outfit recommendations for Napa Valley/vineyard trip

I have a trip coming up to Napa Valley at the end of the month. I have been trying to incorporate more vintage fashion into my fashion overall, particularly 1950’s, but I am not where I would like to be. What dresses would you recommend I buy for this upcoming trip?

I am particularly looking for day dresses that would pair well with these shoes I got from American Duchess.

I am plus size (about a US 26–I am in the process of losing weight to increase my options for vintage clothes but I am not going to be in straight sizes by the end of the month).

Vintage reproduction stores in London

I'll be having a trip to London in few months, and I was wondering if there are some vintage reproduction stores? Like stores that sell for example British retro, Banned vintage, Lady Vintage, Voodoo vixen etc. I tried to google, but the only shop like that was Collectif, but they've closed all their stores :(

I know there is many stores that sell real vintage, but I'm not looking for that. The clothes I'm looking for are more rockabilly/pin up style clothes.

Pinup Girl Clothing — the website

Is anyone else out there being ghosted by Pinup Girl Clothing?

My brother-in-law is getting married in September, and I initially ordered two dresses from PUG Clothing, which I absolutely loved. Encouraged by this, I went back online and ordered several more pieces. However, I received only some of the items, including an incorrect pair of pants that don't match the outfit I intended to purchase. I placed this order on July 15th and have now invested over $1,000 in the company. Yet, I haven't received any communication—automated or otherwise—regarding what to expect next.

I am deeply disappointed by this experience. I've been nothing but patient and courteous, but there's no excuse for this lack of service. Anyone else out there experiencing anything similar?

In an attempt to find out what happened, I stumbled upon a Reddit thread that had recommended a former designer from PUG clothing. I’m feeling pretty powerless so I’m here to promote those websites today.

Budget friendly alternatives? I miss collectif

Collectif was my go to for vintage staple pieces. Loved their knitwear, tops and skirts and the sales they offered made it an affordable price point for me. What are some alternative shops that fall kinda along those lines? Not quite as cheap as belle poque but not as expensive as unique vintage (I own some stuff from both of those but felt collectif was the perfect happy medium between quality and price when buying sale items)

Is my Collectif money lost forever?

I have a gift card of 60 pound that I didn't get a chance to use, and the website is closed 😞 I tried their email addresses but they are all returning as invalid addresses.

Does anyone know how to contact collectif? Is there anything I can do to get my money back?

Looking for 50s Retro Shops

Hi! I'm looking for shops that sell vintage and retro fashion clothing that offer sized for bigger people.

Looking for quiality shops that offer clothes made of cotton (So no SHEIN, LightInTheBox nor AliExpress.)

I mainly personally shop from European shops as that's where I reside, but I am always open to looking at shops from outside Europe as well!

Please feel free to suggest shops, send links and such to recommended ones, I desperately need to find a shop that offers good tops after Collectiff London closed down 🙏

I'm going to update the post as I get suggested shops

Here are a few shops I've personally found, some I have and some I haven't shopped from.

Unique Vintage https://www.unique-vintage.com/ - Offers clothing from size 2-26 (UK Size) or XS-6XL - On the more expensive side. -

Hell Bunny https://www.hellbunny.com/ - Offers SOME retro clothing pieces - Sizes XS-6XL - Has good tops but doesn't have too much to pick from.

Dolly & Dotty (UK Based) https://www.dollyanddotty.co.uk/ Sizes 6-26 Believe that would be between M-6XL - EXCELLENT dresses, their cotton dresses has always been a hit for me. They have both cotton and polyester clothing, make sure to always check descriptions! Mainly has dresses but has a small collection on skirts and tops.

Voodoo Vixen (UK Based) https://www.voodoovixen.co.uk/ - Sizes XS-6XL (Only has 4/5 clothing pieces that go up to 5-6XL) Never ordered from but looks like quiality. All types of clothing pieces.

Lady V London (UK Based) https://ladyvlondon.com/ - Sizes 8-30/32 - Usually has the same styles for their dresses that are made of cotton. Their cotton fabric is also pretty stiff (in my opinion) Mainly only sells dresses but offers skirts sometimes.

Cerys' Closet (UK Based) https://www.ceryscloset.co.uk/ - Sizes 8-26 - Never bought from, has polyester clothing pieces as well, make sure to check descriptions.

Collectiff London https://www.collectiflondon.com/ - Out of business (Weeps)

Added 01/08 : Banned Retro https://www.bannedretro.eu/ - Seems like a good alternative to Collectiff London. Sizes goes up to 4XL (Kinda size 22UK)

Added 04/08: Micheline Pitt (USA Based) https://www.michelinepitt.com/ - Sizes from XS to 4XL

Top Vintage (Based in the Netherlands) https://topvintage.com/ - Sizes from S to 5XL (8 to 22 UK Size)

Succubus (Based in the Nethelands) https://www.succubus.com/ - Sizes from 3XS to 6XL (8 to 26 UK Size)

Heart of Haute (USA Based) https://www.heartofhaute.com/ - Sizes from XS to 3XL

The House of Foxy (Canadian Based) https://www.thehouseoffoxy.com/ - Sizes from XS to 2XL (up to 24 UK Size) - Offers styles from the 30s to the 70s.

Lady Splendor Clothing (USA Based) https://ladysplendorclothing.com/ - Sizes from XS to 3XL - Runs limited designs

Elle Rebel (USA Based) https://ellerebel.com/ - Sizes from XS to 4XL (Note that 4XL is mostly just T-shirts, they offer mid century clothing up to 3XL)

Vintage Vandalizm (USA Based) https://vintagevandalizm.com/ - Sizes from XS to 4XL

What happened to Collectif London?

I went to Collectif's website recently to check on their end-of-season sale, and I feel like this is when they are usually putting out new designs for fall, but now it says that they have stopped trading. Essentially, this sounds like they are going out of business. Does anyone know details? I'm so sad! They were one of my favorite places to shop for vintage reproduction that was decent-ish quality.
