Hey all! In early April, the world-premiere of a locally-written Canadian play called Butcher The Pig will hit the stage at The Theatre on King.
The story follows a lonely warehouse in the middle of nowhere, Saskatchewan. A young man arrives seeking help. His estranged uncle might be his saving grace, or a sociopath. This one-act Canadian drama is a gripping, and sometimes hilarious, exploration of urban vs. rural manhood, family and responsibility. Most of all, it is about being a Canadian.
andddd tickets are now on sale!! if you buy your tickets before February 14th you can save $10 (Promo Code: BUTCHER)!!
unsure if how many here are into theatre, but in the hope that some of you might be, here’s the Eventbrite link! thx 4 reading:)
I bought a new home 4 years ago which has been affected by many different factors that surround my property (mainly construction and lack of care). I want to sue the builder for negligence and devaluing my property and damage to my property. One of my vehicles was already written off as a result of their negligence
Anyone know if the ice roads open?
This is a long shot but I am making this post to see if someone has maybe found my necklace. I lost it Friday and unfortunately travelled various places on the Chemong bus route but ended up at Service Ontario. I also travelled to Vinnies on Erskine via the same bus route There’s also a chance it’s in the snow which I understand means it could just be gone. I’ve already called Service Ontario, Vinnies, and the bus terminal with no luck.
I’ve attached a drawing because unfortunately despite owning it for fifteen years I don’t have a clear picture of it. It’s a silver/pewter pentacle with a tiny snake welded to the side. There is also a small pointed white quartz on a separate pendant. The chain is just your generic nickel chain nothing fancy.
I’m happy to compensate it’s return as I understand it doesn’t look like anything special but it is very sentimental to me.
For various reasons we are considering moving our prescription service to the IDA at Brookdale. We are currently at Shoppers at Charlotte & Aylmer and the service has gone downhill since the business was sold.
Anyone with any thoughts/insight?
Thanks
Can be from a store that sells used, etc. I just want to try it to get the feel for it. Never used one before, but hoping to illustrate my own packing for my business.
iPad probably preferred, and need to be able to try it with the pen for drawing specifically. Anyone know offhand where to go since there's no Apple store here?
Thanks! :)
New Mental Health walk in clinics now available. (Post taken/ shared from CMHA Facebook page)
I am just sharing, for questions contact the number listed on the photo.
Like the title suggests, I'm looking for a place in town to host a kids bday party. A nice sized space for 50+ people that's a reasonable price too. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good spots.
What happened to the Ptbo Hot Chocolate Fest? It’s been so fun to do every year in February and I’ve heard nothing about it this year! :(
I'll tag as NSFW cause I know some folks are uncomfortable with menstrual talk. Please don't interact if you're uncomfortable with discussing menstruation/periods, I'm just asking for help.
Does anyone know where I could get assistance in acquiring high cost period products?
Specifically, because of other medical issues my period has never been regulated until I recently started birth control. Now when I'm on my period I have to use a tampon and a pad because I'm bleeding through, and it's much worse at night. This isn't a very affordable solution because it means I'm going through twice the product in a shorter time slot.
However, I have tried those menstrual diapers before and they worked so well (especially at night), but they cost an arm and a leg and I can't afford that right now since I'm on OW and can only just barely afford my bills and groceries. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Gave me a good laugh this morning- name a cat after your ex and then "fix" them! Link in the comments below.
I’m trying to get a better sense of it as a Peterborough space
Does anyone recall seeing any COVID tests anywhere in town? I’ve been sick for about a week, and I’m getting worse. I’m trying to make an appointment with my doctor (very out of town), but they won’t see me unless I take a COVID test. I don’t have the energy to drive around town checking stores.
Alternatively, does anyone know of any open walk-in clinics that will accept someone who has a family doctor (that’s 2 hours away)?
Update: got one from a neighbour
Tell me your thoughts!
My family is looking for an indoor gym (or large open space) where we can practice soccer with our little one. We currently use the YMCA but their open gym time is spotty and usually there are a lot of people who want to play basketball taking up most of the space. After getting hit in the head three times today - we are open to anything! Any recommendations?
Has anyone noticed the grocery’s stores being insanely busy this weekend !? Mind you I was only at Costco and the Superstore but there had to be 3x’s the normal amount of people then any other weekend I’ve been !
Hey everyone, I’m a student looking for a job in Peterborough and was wondering if anyone knows of places that are hiring right now. I’d really appreciate any leads or advice. Also, is there a job help centre in town that helps with job searches? I’ve heard mentions of the Salvation Army and the Peterborough Rec Centre having opportunities, but I’m not too sure. If anyone knows more about that, I’d love to hear. Thanks so much."
Hey all, I'm moving to Peterborough in the near future and I'm looking to make friends and build community. I've been doing life alone for a while and it's been tanking my mental health. I do have some family out there and I'm very excited to be closer to them. I want to meet new people too. I'm 40f, childfree by choice (but love kids), love animals, reading, PS5, love traveling, love cooking...love a lot of stuff. I'm adventurous and believe laughter heals a lot of things. Pls DM me if you want to say hi!
Looking to get a helix piercing and have heard some horror stories about not clean piercers. With it being a cartilage piercing I am extra concerned. Any recommendations? Cleanliness is the most important thing for me.
Greetings fellow humans.
I would like to invite you to take a moment to explore the art on the white walls in the lower level of the library. Please participate by writing something that you love about yourself on one of the cards provided and place it in the box.
If that prompt doesn't sit right with you in this moment, perhaps you would like to unburden yourself; you could write about something you would like to release or let go of, or you can treat it as an opportunity to scream into the void, if that's what you need. Say what you feel you can't say to anyone else. That box is a safe space.
Feel free to remain anonymous, of course. I look forward to reading whatever you have to share, and using what you've shared to create more art in the future. :) <3
I have very naturally curly 3a hair and my daughter is biracial with even tighter 3b curls, she's 2.5 years old and I haven't had her hair cut professionally yet, just trimming the ends at home. Honestly if you don't know what I mean by 3a and 3b, respectfully you aren't for us.
I'd love recommendations for anyone who actually specializes or is trained to cut and style curly hair. I've ended up with triangle hair cuts more than once in my life. I'd love someone who knows that a trim on curls means trimming the layers and not just straight across the bottom.
We live in Havelock but I work in Peterborough so I'd willing to travel for the right person. a profile of curly hair that wasn't curled or straightened for pictures is kind of essential, I want her to love her hair as it is.
I miss silk routes and hot belly mama's sooooo much 😭
I went to a local and very reputable location today to get some cheese and deli meats; I started looking around and noticed pre made meals. I thought a lasagna would be nice to bring home for the family for a Sunday dinner until the price tag was honestly $52. I understand that pre made meals are often utilizing in house product that has already been paid for, and has to be accounted for in production; but $52 is absolutely insane in my opinion. What is the reason for this?
I didn't state the business name because I love going there and am not trying to spread hate or "out" these guys; I'm just trying to get some reasoning as to the prices and how they even manage to sell?
I have a 10+ year old Kitchen-aid stand mixer, and I was wondering if anyone knows a shop locally that can service it. Nothing is mechanically wrong, but surely it needs to be greased and I just don't have the time.
I was waiting for the bus last Thursday morning in the Sherbrook/Willis area when an elderly woman on her daily walk stopped to say hello. She told me she was 85 years old. I said she looked terrific. “I walk every day,” said. “You gotta keep going!”
When I got on the bus the encounter made me reflect. I’m semi-retired and moved to Peterborough from Hamilton – where I’ve lived most of my life - on Nov. 1. If this woman had lived in Hamilton she would not have been on her daily walk after two significant consecutive snowfalls. She would have been stuck inside her home for most of the winter.
I am absolutely astounded at the condition of Peterborough’s sidewalks after a snowfall – clear of snow as far as the eye can see. I walked all over the city after I visited the library and it was the same everywhere – clear sidewalks. I learned when I moved here it’s the responsibility of the city to clear sidewalks of snow in winter at a cost of about $450,000 a year which ain’t bad for a city the size of Peterborough.
In Hamilton, it is the responsibility of homeowners to remove snow from sidewalks in front of their homes or face fines or the city will do it and add a few hundred bucks to their property tax bill. None of that happens. There aren’t enough officers to enforce the bylaw. Too many homeowners and property owners including plaza owners and even churches don’t shovel. Some homeowners shovel a narrow path that people using walkers or wheelchairs users would not be able to pass. As winter continues it gets worse as the snow adds to previous snowfalls and semi-melts and the sidewalk snow hides the ice. Even able-bodied people have to trudge slowly over the sidewalks.
I am in awe of Peterborough’s sidewalks after a snowfall. The public works department does a fantastic job. I was surprised at how fast the sidewalks were cleared after two consecutive snowfalls. I still find it amazing to be able to freely walk the sidewalks. Peterborough residents probably think nothing of it but unless you’ve lived in a city where it is the responsibility of the homeowner to clear sidewalks you just don’t understand.
I get that it costs money. Cutting out the Peterborough sidewalk clearing program was one of the recommendations by senior staff to reduce the tax rate. That has been the stumbling block in Hamilton in adopting a similar program. To me, though, roads and sidewalks and garbage removal etc. – these are the basics of what property taxes should be covering. Thanks to successive downloading of programs like housing by PC and Liberal provincial and federal governments over the decades basic municipal services are being scaled back or eliminated. We truly need some kind of “Who Does What” study to figure out which level of government should be delivering a certain service.
I’m now a big believer in municipalities taking over the responsibility of sidewalk snow clearing.
I also think it would conform with the provincial government’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act adopted in 2005 which set out to set standards in five areas that affect everyday life for the disabled to be implemented by 2025.
Yet here we are, twenty years later, and in most Ontario cities and towns, seniors and people using walkers or wheelchairs can’t get around in winter. But there’s always money for more roads and highways. It's a matter of priorities.
Peterborough’s sidewalk snow-clearing program is a gem. Glad I moved here.
Moved here from Toronto . Looking for a family doctor … did not know it would be this difficult.
Does anyone know of any clinic accepting patients ? Willing to travel.
Not looking for a clinic that has only telemedicine.
This is a really oddly specific request; but has anyone seen any Evee Pokémon plushies in town recently? My daughter desperately wants one, I feel like maybe I saw one at Wal-Mart but that was awhile ago? If anyone can save me running all over town I would be forever grateful.
hi! I’m looking for a salon/barbershop similar to riverside that does haircuts and colouring (men and womens) with an alternative vibe. Anyone know somewhere like this that’s close by?
