PETE HOLMES!
/r/peteholmes
It’s in one of the YMIW episodes, Pete talks about an Irish writer with a joke about a genie that grants subconscious wishes. And how most people would just vanish because they secretly desire annihilation.
It’s the bit about atheists v believers, on an airplane that’s crashing. The atheist says,”This is as meaningless as it all was” and the believer says, “I’M GOING HOME!” I’m trying to find that bit on his albums on Apple Music. I thought it was on “Nice Try the Devil”
Does anyone have a link to the ad Pete did for Magic Mind?
Pete buddy you’ve got the longest intros in town.
Just saw the new superbowl commercial and I don’t think it was Pete’s voice.
Hey all, if anyone can help. The premise of the bit was Pete Holmes was standing in line waiting to get on a plane. He over hears a mother and younger daughter in front of him talking about not taking liquids on a plane or it has to be a certain amount in ounces. Holmes then tries to make a joke about how he is carrying more liquid than that in his bladder? And the mother and daughter get all weirded out.
Not sure if I have it right, but it was a hilarious bit, if anyone can help me find it, I would be so grateful🙏
I am actually upset about this. I’ve really appreciated his openness and honesty. His Pete’s picks “you can trust me because I actually use this stuff”.
“Liquid death isn’t a sponsor anymore so I can finally be honest about the fact I don’t like it”.
I can’t listen to him anymore. I can’t see him as anything other than a shill now.
Well it DOES say it right there.
I have such a parasocial relationship with this man it’s like I saw a friend in a movie.
Where can I find his joke about being into japanese dudes bowling cum cats lmfao
It was maybe from 2019ish and the guest described a breathtaking magic trick that happened when someone came to his door. It was one of my fav episodes but can’t remember the guy’s name.
I don’t mean to sound judgemental or ugly and I’m sure it’s in my head but I’m listening to the new podcast episode and I needed to vent a little. I’m sure I’m projecting because I’m feeling pretty icky here lately so I feel bad saying this, but I wonder if anyone else will get the same impression. Sweetly Petey is always there for me in dark times and his podcast helps lift me out of it so I guess I feel a little protective. It’s been kinda a hard listen because I feel like he is being snippy and purposefully disagreeable and dismissive in this interview. It’s hurting my heart and I keep yellin “geez! Be nice!” Perhaps I’m just unfamiliar with his tone and reading him wrong. Still look forward to finishing the episode and I’m sure he is brilliant and I’ll learn from him, but gotdang! Just sound like an angsty curmudgeon and I wanna shake him! If anyone reads this, thanks for bearing with me:) have a wonderful day!
I’ve only just started getting into Nate’s stuff, but have been listening to YMIW since 2013. Super interesting to listen to this now with Nate’s success!
Notable tidbits:
They talk about their come up together in Chicago, Nate talks about Pete being someone who was always slightly ahead and helped open doors for Nate.
Nate talks about telling his manager he wants enough success to “just not hate his friends.”
Pete says he would buy stock in Nate.
Toward the end, Nate reveals he’s working on a pilot with Jimmy Fallon.
They talk about how crazy famous Aziz is.
Kumail had just gotten a show with HBO
GO WATCH IT!
And it’s Josh!!!! Didn’t even know they knew each other. I LOVE impersonations, and Josh is a KING.
So I'm a new fan to stand up comedy, possibly been a fan for 2 or 5 months? — I don't know I lost count— and I know you'd be saying "your a little late don't you think?" I'm a 15 year old girl who is a fan of Pete holmes and Chelsea peretti. I basically watch all videos and listen to their podcasts, all I want to know is that what happened to them? I never knew what made them end their friendship. Despite the fact that they enjoy each other's company, laugh at each other's jokes and support each other, what made them randomly one day break the friendship off?
I know it's 2023, but I really wanna know, I'm curious, I really love their friendship and I screamed when I realise they weren't friends anymore — Pete still follows chels on Instagram, and on twitter they still both follow each other (?)
Complete with Steve Harvey being ... Steve Harvey, Pete kills though! Val and family too.
I just finished Comedy Sex God after a friend recommended it to me. I had honestly never heard of Pete Holmes before, but his story really resonated with me. I also recently left organized religion (Christianity) and am experiencing some of the same spiritual questions and insights that Pete has.
Can anyone recommend any of his best podcasts that talk about consciousness and spirituality? I've listened to a few of him with Duncan Trussell, but there are so many to sift through.
Thanks!
Hey, y’all! For years now, I’ve been telling people, “oh there’s a great joke by Pete Holmes where he’s like ‘the meanest thing you can say to someone is that they have an annoying laugh. You’re basically saying, hey, you know that sound you make when you’re at your absolute happiest? I hate it!’”
I just spent 20 minutes trying to find evidence that he said this and I can’t find anything. Now, I’m convinced I totally made it up hahaha does anyone know what I’m talking about?!? Maybe it was just like a throwaway statement on a You Made It Weird ep that my brain tucked away?
