Hi r/PeriodUnderwear!
A few years ago, I bought my first period underwear to use as backup for my menstrual cup. After trying a few different pairs, I fell in love with Knix's boyshort style (the light absorption one). It honestly fits nothing like a boyshort. It's way more like briefs, which I personally love.
My period underwear is now literally coming apart at the seams and I am hoping to restock my drawer. I'm interested in trying out some new brands of period underwear and would love some recommendations. For reference, I am a smaller-framed woman with straighter hips. My two best-fitting pairs of underwear right now are the Knix period boyshorts in size small, and the Subset (formerly Knickey) cotton mid-rise briefs in size small. I would prefer the underwear to be light absorption, machine washable (I don't mind laying them out to dry), PFAS free, and also not super tight where the elastic leg borders are. I have a surgery scar in the crease where my thigh meets my groin, and tight fabrics really agitate it. That's a big reason I've loved the Knix boyshorts -- they fit PERFECTLY and don't agitate my scar at all.
So, if anyone has any leads, please let me know! :)
ETA: I'd also love if the gusset goes completely across from side to side (not front to back, though I wouldn't be opposed). The Knix boyshorts unfortunately have regular fabric on the sides of the gusset.
Hello! This is my first time on the sub but I want to say thank you in advance if you give me any advice or suggestions!
I am a full time caregiver for my mom who is in a wheelchair due to several strokes. She has been using adult pull ups for about 4 years now and I had a thought that period underwear would be a good change because of the sustainability and for comfort. For the most part she is able to use the bathroom by herself with my supervision (she can transfer to the toilet as well as pull down/up her own pants).
All that being said I want her to have underwear that are comfortable and here are some “requirements” or just things I’d like to keep in mind when trying to purchase these underwear:
But also going off of the last point, if the ones I decide to purchase are on the pricier side I would be ok with buying a pair for her to try out and see if she likes them and then splurge a little as a Christmas present.
Again, thank you in advance for any suggestions or advice, this would definitely help us out at least a little bit financially and also hope she will feel more comfortable wearing the period underwear.
I'm wanting to give period underwear a go but don't want to buy loads just in case it's not for me! I'm often out of the house for 10-12 hours a day some days of the week, so I need something that'll work for that period of time (if something like that exists)! I don't want to be changing them while at work. I am also about to start canicross, so I'm going to get soaked and muddy and I want to be comfortable.
I'm based in the UK.
Hello. I have a bunch of period underwear I recently purchased. I have in different "absorbance levels", from light to heavy, depending on my flow. I shower or rinse my body every morning, put on a fresh pair before going to work, yet they smell so bad around afternoon, and even my pants smell of it after, so I have to wash my pants too. What's the trick? What's the point of period pants if you need to change 2-4 times a day to avoid smelling? A bit unhandy for me to have to change clothes and carry dirty underwear at work ;o)
As I've been switching over from tampons, this is my third cycle wearing period underwear and I always stop dead in my tracks when I can feel it pouring out. I couldn't feel it before with tampons, but now I do. Has anyone else noticed this when switching from tampons?
Does anyone else experience blessing through the sides of period underwear? Is there a way to solve this? Or a brand that you recommend so I don’t have this issue.
Hi all, my daughter has started her period and sI bought her some of these period underwear, I got her 12 pairs I think, hoping that will cover everything? I have been using a cup for over a decade so I have no idea how they work at all.
If you have any tips and tricks I would appreciate! Only thing I'm worried about is that she is tiny, and I couldn't find her size... the underwear might be a little big...
my child’s dad didn’t look in the wash before he put in a load of gross rags and stuff with cat pee on it. 🤢 He put it in the sanitize cycle/extra hot. i figured it out when it was half way done - but because of where it was in the cycle, the door wouldn’t unlock even when i shut the machine off. bottom line, it was every pair she owned - Im finally washing them on delicate/cold again with vinegar and my regular detergent. anyone had any issues with accidental washing on extra hot and ruining the underwear or reducing their efficacy as a result?
I’m pissed - its hundreds of dollars worth 🤬
Also love to know what you do for any lingering odors.
Hey all!
I am new to period underwear and so far I like it. I'm wearing some Period. underwear and while I'm not experiencing any leaking and find them overall quite comfortable, the butt is really baggy on me. Like, baggy enough that there's a solid 1/2" gap between the underwear and my butt when I'm standing up. I am plus sized and apple-shaped, so it could certainly be my butt's problem and this is just what period underwear is for me, but if anyone has had a similar experience and can recommend another brand, I'm all ears! Thank you so much!
I'm looking for a bikini or brief style that has coverage all the way up to the waistband in the back. Also don't want to spend more than $30 for a pair. Any recommendations?
Pretty much the title. I've been using period underwear for about a year and happy with them. We've got a family holiday booked in December whilst I'm very likely going to be on my heavy days of my period. I don't want to avoid swimming as it'll be a daily part of the holiday for us and I'm looking forward to it.
Does the swimwear work? If I'm only in the pool for 2 hours max a day, literally going straight from changing rooms, to pool, then back to changing rooms after. No lounging around on seats etc (it's an indoor pool at a holiday centre in the UK). Will they be okay with a heavy flow? Most seem to be for light flows but if it's just a couple of hours....?
I can't wear tampons anymore (thanks, kids) and I'm in early days of trialing a disc but need other options.
In the UK, and I'm looking at Wuka or Modibodi at the moment. But open to recommendations. (I want high waist swim bottoms, ideally.)
Thank you 😊
Has anyone found a comfortable period thong where the gussets isn't so far back?
I currently use The Period Company thong but can get uncomfortable and sweaty when it's hot.
I've tried Saalt which fabric is great but the guest is so small.
I loved period aisle based thong but it's out of my size to buy more.
I'm wary of Thinx and Knix cause of PFAFS.
And Modibodi doesn't have my size in thong.
Any suggestions?
What's one periods product, (especially if it's biodegradable and organically made) you would want someone to make/create for you that would create less mess for you during periods and are helpful during travelling? Or what are the things you would expect from a period product that you don't get in market nowadays? Things that would make your life easier. With the recent study indicating lead in tampons and pads, it seems nothing is safe to use. It can be literally anything, any kind of product that you think will help you with easy travelling and is easy to throw.
I saw a few months ago on Thinx's website that they changed their underwear so now it absorbs something like 12 tampons worth. Has any tried any of their styles since the change? If you owned any of the old pairs, how did they compare?
I just stumbled upon a brand called AllMatters anyone tried these? I just started using period underwear last month and I just regret I didn't try earlier. I got 3 from Bambody and now I want to get an additional 3 but want to try another brand out. AllMatters is designed in Denmark and made in Portugal so as someone like myself living in Europe it's always nice to buy products made here. Portugal has very high quality textile production. The reviews seem to be good but wondering if anyone recommends them or not.
I have a few pairs of Thinx boyshorts from 2018 and they're perfect, the gusset is so thin I can't tell I'm wearing period underwear, and they hold a lot more then advertised.
i just got newer ones in the mail and they suck!! Way thicker and the gusset is thinner and leaks, idk why they even changed them :(
Amyway does anyone know where I can get similar to their old style? I don't want to feel like I am wearing a pad. Thanks!
Has anyone tried these panties from Costco? I’m in Canada, so not sure US Costco carries this. I can’t find any reviews online. Thanks!
I've searched this sub and have seen a few comments saying the seamfree range has a weird fit or leaks, but since these were from some time ago I just need to know if these things still apply. Any bad or good experiences to share?
I have been using the Period. brand underwear for the last few days, it is the beginning of my period so it's pretty heavy but I only had this pair on for about an hour and a half and it already started leaking. I was wondering if this is common with period underwear or if it's just the brand? Do I also have to buy the pads they have to insert them in the gap of the underwear? If not I'm sure it would help but that is just so expensive and if it's going to get worse from washing I'd rather just get a better brand if anyone has any recommendations for brands or way to keep this from happening please let me know. My main priority other than not having leaks is making sure the fabric is mostly or completely cotton/non toxic, thank you in advance!
Hi all,
My daughter just started her period and it's crazy heavy.
I was thinking about buying her period underwear to wear with a pad on the really bad days/nights to help avoid leaking onto her clothes (the poor kid came home 3x this week with blood all over the back of her pants...).
Which are the best period underwear that can comfortably be worn with regular pads (eg, Always ultra thin heavy or overnight)?
Not really looking to spend $49 on a pair of underwear.
I asked customer service and they essentially said the basic style is 95% organic cotton whereas the classic style was 95% bamboo viscose, but what does this mean for wearing? Have you noticed one is more comfortable? Or stretchier? Please help! Thanks
Okay, I’m slowly growing my collection until I have enough for a whole cycle. What are everyone’s favorites?! I currently have only used Thinx which I like but am open to other brands! Plus size friendly, briefs/high waisted preferred, affordable and good for all flow days.
Thanks in advance!
hi everyone!! i got my period today and i have a swimming lesson tomorrow that i can not miss. i am WAY to scared to use tampons so i was wondering if it is ok for me to wear a clean pair of period undies under my swimmers?? please help! thankss
Hi all! I work for a company that makes period underwear and here’s some handy tips to remember !
(Most important) edit: when possible do not put your period underwear in the dryer !! Try and Air dry INSIDE OUT (in the sun if you can, helps kill bacteria) so that the absorbency liner dries fully. Putting your undies in the dryer can ruin the fabric/elastic and sometimes wont fully dry absorbency pad. This will also help extent the life of your undies :)
When washing don’t use fabric softener. The way fabric softener works is by coating the fibres to make them ‘soft’ which can affect the absorbency of your underwear.
Rinse with water until the water runs clear before putting them in the washing machine - this ensures that your underwear is getting cleaned properly!
When possible, use an antibacterial washing detergent.
Wash in a wash bag - this prevents your precious undies from getting tangled and stretching (also helps stop them from being eaten by the washing machine ANDDD is a helpful tool to easily take them out to air dry)
THATS pretty much it ! Hope this helps :)))
Hello! I am currently wearing some period undies. Im wondering if theyre meant to be feeling a bit wet? Im using an overnight one right now but its only been a few hours. I don’t have a very heavy flow. Im currently using some modibodi ones. Unsure if i should change them when they feel wet or if thats normal?
I'm a guy, so please excuse the obvious lack of sophistication in my question. :)
My fiancee is a special-needs preschool teacher and she HAS to get in the therapy pool on certain days. She also has endometriosis and very painful/heavy periods. She uses a disc, which is great for most applications, but when squatting down for the little ones in the waist-deep pool, the disc flexes and leaks. She's understandably worried about the potential mess.
I, being an engineer, told her to wrap her upper thighs and lower abdomen with saran wrap. She thought my idea was dumb (can you imagine!). So I looked on Amazon for "watertight panties" figuring someone had invented skin-tight underwear that would keep your lower regions dry while swimming. But all I found was granny-panties, super bulky, or menstrual panties that are more absorbent. But no skin-tight options.
Surely someone has solved this already?!
My daughter just got her period for the first time and has used some period underwear. I got a small bin and filled it with cold water for her to put them in to soak until laundry day. I just went to emty it and it smells like absolute sewage. Do I need to soak only for a day or so, or add something to the water??
I have several pair of Knix period underwear (the most absorbent option). Has anyone used period underwear for postpartum bleeding while in the hospital or on their return home? If so, how did it go and what brand did you use?
Has anyone used and can comment on their sizing? I like the idea of the click-in system and that the pads are cotton, but I sometimes have a tricky fit with underwear because of my rectangle build hip/waist ratio. I'm in the US so Nookees will cost a bit to ship and I don't imagine I can return them.
Im debating what size to order. My hips are 102cm so according to their size chart I am a medium, but I often buy size large for underwear so the waistband doesn't cut into my 84cm waist.
