There are a few studies stating that drum players brains structure themselves differently after years of playing.Does anyone know if this applies to hand drums?
Has anyone felt a difference after learning to play a percussion instrument?
The shell splitted after the last performance🥲 Lets have a call with the insurance...

I am searching relentlessly for some marimba mallet cores for my mallet making business. I’ve used all of the basic things I could find at the store (I.e. bouncy balls, wood rounds with rubber bands, rubber chair foot covers) and they are all either unbalanced, too brittle, or too soft sounding. I have decided I would pay a premium for actual rubber cores made for this purpose but I cannot find any online??
Anyone have any ideas or online stores they know of?
Thank you!
Hi All, my child's high school marching band approached me this morning on trying to find ideas on how to re-color the keys on the glockenspiel used in the front ensemble/pit. We sent some test keys off to a local shop and got them anodized which worked great, except it made the keys a bit flat. Sanding the bottom of the keys just made them flatter.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions (other than outright buying new keys) on how to recolor the silver keys to black that will have a fighting chance to handle marching abuse/use?
There's functionally nothing wrong with the keys, we're just trying to go for a uniform look across the entire ensemble and this is the only piece of equipment that stands out right now (don't have budget to completely replace... you know how budgets are for band programs... already short)
Thank you!
I forgot how to do smooth buzz rolls after many years of marching percussion and open rolls. Any tips?
Hello, there's a percussive instrument i keep hearing in bossa nova and samba/samba jazz that sounds almost like a human voice or whistle and I really wanna use it in my compositions but can't seem to discover what it is. I linked an example where that instrument plays throughout most of the song but you can hear it very clearly between 0:21 and 0:24. Thank you
Hi! I’m going to a percussion camp later this summer! For this I need a pair of marimba mallets. I’m also currently working on 4 mallet marimba using the mallets at my school. I was originally going to get Robert van sice marimba mallets, but they’re out of stock until the fall . Are there any marimba mallets comparable in price and quality to these that anyone would recommend? I was considering the Robert van sice because that’s what a friend of mine uses in college, but I’m open to any suggestions. (And yes I will be buying 2 pairs)
What the title says. Basically, I'm trying to incorporate techniques I know from doubling on hand drums into some of my solos and styles i play on my main instrument, the drum kit. I've played it with my hands before but had limited success due to me not being able to get the volume I'd be able to with sticks and not being able to play things like my cowbells. Any suggestions for a glove type of system to solve this problem so that I can create interesting solos and ideas combined with sticks or brishes(sorry I'm just excited about the possibilities).
Not actually a concerto, but I’m playing a piece in front of a wind ensemble which features a xylophone soloist (Helter Skelter by Lemon Woodfield). The piece has fast passages and loud glissandos, so I’m looking for mallet suggestions that are light, articulate, and can project over a large band.
Can you tell me does it sound off to you? Percussion-wise. Cuz I think it sounds like a hot mess but I am no professional. Each time the intro comes on I am bothered and in awe at the same time.
I got assigned to play xylo for my marching band this year (W), and I was wondering if you guys had any advice on xylo that differed from other mallets instruments.
All of the ones sold on Amazon, whether they're plastic, gourds, or wood, have some reviews that say they broke in the first few minutes of use. Where can I get durable ones besides Africa? If you haven't seen this instrument before, here's what it sounds like.
More drums that I have coming..... I also have a set of valjes that need new heads looking for a friendly owner
Possibly 80s or 90s?
