Could someone recommend some easy multi percussion solos or timpani solos so I can better understand the instruments? Not too easy though probably like grade 2 or or medium-easy grade level. Thanks!
Hi, we are currently doing an indoor percussion and our chimes part calls for this. Any idea on what they are or what to do for it? Couldn’t find anything else online.
We have the Yamaha TP-6300 Timpani and im wondering if i should get alumium or steel insert for head replacements ? and im wondering if this series Heads should be exactly 26 or is it 26 8/16?
So to no one’s surprise my community band is playing sleigh ride this year. Except the only sleigh bells they have are like the ones pictured above.
I’m not really sure how to go about playing these as I’ve always used the wooden handle ones. I’m the only percussionist (aside from a VERY old tuba player who hits a beat on the bass only) so I’m also slightly limited as I’m covering the other parts too (not the whip, a clarinet is covering that).
Any suggestions are appreciated! Do you think there’s a way to attach it to my foot? Lol
My high school’s Adams marimba recently damaged all four wheels. We’ve been looking for a placements, but all replacements seem to be very expensive. I’ve heard that people use wheelchair wheels as replacements. Does anybody know what measurements I should look for?
Hello fellow percs!
I’m currently writing a paper about the history of timpani construction and I was wondering if anyone knows if there were any really bad designs ever made. Every source I find lists the important ones, but i’m curious if there’s any record of just god awful designs. If anyone has a clue, let me know!
Thanks!
Hello- I'm a newbie percussionist and have been playing in a community band for about nine months. I'm really loving it and the band has been very supportive while I learn 'on the job.' I have a little music experience - I played clarinet in 4th grade. I can read music.
One of my biggest challenges is learning the music on songs that are very flowing and soft and that have no distinct beat. They are the kind of songs where I have several measures of not playing anything and then I do a suspended cymbal swell, or similar. I'm always getting lost and am never 100% sure I'm on the right measure. Other than listening to a recording of the song over and over an over again, are there any tips for speeding up the process of learning these songs, knowing where I am in the song, and being able to count along so I know exactly when I need to hit that triangle on beat 2 of measure 113?
I appreciate any ideas or tricks of the trade. Thank you so much.
Op.3 No.1 “Poetic Tone Pictures” by Edvard Grieg played on marimba by Chandler Beaugrand!
If somebody could please write in counts for me it would help me bunches. Thank you so much
I’m looking for a beeswax replacement. For Dvorak’s Carnival I can’t seem to get the second finger roll, the first one is fine but by the second one my finger just slides. I would use beeswax but I can’t get it in time. Any suggestions would be great
I'm willing to trade or pay. Mainly looking for a project drum (one that I can build on or that I can fix, something to just take up some free time) I'm not looking to pay more than 250-300 for a project drum. I have some electronics I'm willing to trade, and I have a left handed Ibanez and acoustic electric that I don't use (I don't play guitar anymore). I'd love either a drum or a practice marimba to take with me into college. Thanks percussion peeps! GET TO ME SOON!!!! DM me for inquiries.
I am starting to wrap my own marimba mallets, and I was wondering if there's any helpful tips that I could use?
I’m a sophomore in high school, and am thinking I want to do percussion post-high school. This marching season, I was the center snare (not because I’m cracked, but because we have no upperclassmen and I’m the most experienced) for our pretty decent drumline (we won best drumline at most of our smaller competitions). My percussion director also seems to think I have a lot of potential, and I can play drums well but also I’m decent at mallet stuff. I’m thinking I want to do some percussion stuff after high school, whether it be DCI, WGI, college marching band, or whatever concert band is at the college I go to. I also plan to go to college and I’m not sure how it would conflict. I’ve been working on fundamentals and building up my traditional grip (our school played matched) using our warm ups and show music. I also have been trying to keep up mallet skills by working on some solos. What else do I need to know about post-high school percussion, and what should I do to prepare to audition for corps, bands, and ensembles? Is it possible to be involved in these while pursuing a (not music) degree?
I was invited to a drum circle but I only have cheap non-tunable bongos and the skins are a bit too loose.
I'm playing congas for a singer songwriter and one of his songs is a tango. I don't really know what to do on congas. Is there a typical hand drum pattern for tango? There's no drum kit involved.
Hey all,
I just finished my 3rd year of studying jazz drums at university and am looking at getting into some marimba practice over the break. What are some good solo marimba pieces that you would recommend?
I am familiar and somewhat competent with burton grip, so either 4 or 2 mallet pieces are fine. I’ve also started looking at Rhythm Song and Rotation IV, are these good choices?
Thanks :)
Hello, I’m in 8th grade and have Allstate auditions in 8 days, the tempo is 120 bpm and is in 3/4.
Does anyone know where I can buy just mallet shafts? I’m trying to design my own keyboard mallet but I cannot find just the shafts online
my school has a few congas with broken heads and when I go to research replacement heads they are all 70+ dollars for one head ? Why is this?
Hi, I recently filmed this playing darbuka on a palestinian song, a duet for Tik Tok ,and I don't like how my darbuka sounds, despite me being a beginner.( I've been practicing darbuka just for 3 months ,once a week mostly, or whenever I had time) I feel that this sounds different than my last video
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeeBWEYr/
In the first video, I used the microphone of my headphones and I also changed the volume to maximum while the song remained to 50. I think that is the mistake, I should've let the volume to 50... but in my headphones sounded so good with bass and stuff
But also the microphone.. when I use EM-91CU mic to register, it sounds different. I don't have a stand tho.
Do I play it too hard?
Should I change the skin? (My darbuka was already second hand and when some female friends played it at a party, they've left scratches on the skin)
Should I register without headphones? I guess the mic isn't that good.
Should I also let the volume of the percussion down a bit ? If so how can I do it, without affecting the sound of the song? (I edited the volume on the tik tok app, didn't save it as a draft..)
Is it okay to post this video elsewhere? (I posted only on Youtube) or will I embarass myself?;)
Sorry if my post is all over the place, I hope you understand what I mean. All feedback would be appreciated, thanks!!!
I see that there is a book of 20 timpani etudes, and also a set of 3 volumes for 30 etudes. Are these separate etudes (as in, if you had all 4 books, you'd have 50 etudes)? Or does the 30 build on the 20, so if you bought the 30, you'd have them all? This is for a gift, not for me, so looking for recommendations as to what to go with.
My mallet bag was stolen a little over a year ago. When it was stolen, I hadn’t played much for almost seven years. It was a sentimental loss but didn’t feel like much more than that at the time. I started playing again in local orchestras and ensembles back in the spring, and have been bumming off of my friends for the mallets I need ever since.
Luckily, I kept most of my sticks in a different bag, but I am looking to rebuild my mallet collection in a cost-efficient way, starting with some staples that will get my bases covered. It’s been a while since I’ve bought mallets, so I’m not familiar with the new stuff that’s out there. Needing some basic glockenspiel, xylo, vibe, marimba, and timpani mallets. I’d also like some decent low register marimba mallets.
Any suggestions?
i need to play the drums and dont know where to start. any tips? i dont want to invest until i know which drum i want to play.
The piece is called “towards the bright future” nayoa Wada
Someone please help me😭 I got asked to play snare for our grade 12 band. IM IN GRADE 10
So I'm watching How It's Made S14E8 and they're making marimbas. The wooden keys each have a metal resonator tube, which makes sense to me, but there are also resonator tubes between the "missing" flats/sharps. Why would there be resonator tubes for there? Would the length of those resonators match another note on the marimba? Is it a harmony or sympathetic vibration thing?
