Hello! I was wondering if Peoria was single mom friendly.
Meaning: Is there public transportation? In case my car goes down How are the schools? Pediatricians that accept Medicaid? Any daycares/preschools? Are there family friendly holiday events? How are the parks?
Any other advice will be appreciated ☺️
Hey everyone! My husband and I are moving to Peoria, hopefully within the next month. We need a list of the best of the best of everything.
We're very excited and can't wait to join you all!
EDIT: We'll be in the Sunset Hills area I believe
Are there any individuals or groups in the area that would enjoy meetups? There aren't many options for it within a few hours of our area. It would be awesome to find people that have outdoor property to practice naturism on, host parties, etc.
Trying to get back into playing and singing outside of karaoke and drag. Are there any semi regular open mics in the area? Bonus points for a vibe that's less "we're trying to impress each other" and more "it's not perfect but making music around people isn't about perfection."
Tonight around 5:15 my partner was in a major accident on the Rt 6 ramp. His truck flipped numerous times and was totaled. On the off chance that anyone has photos of the accident, would you okear share them with me for insurance purposes. Thanks.
Hi Guys, my name is Breno and I live here in Peoria.
My sister goes to school in Decatur and they found an abandoned dog in the streets, she is a Boxer mix, and had a previous owner because she was chipped. They tried reaching out to the number on the chip but that number has been disconnected. The local shelter also made efforts to find the owner with no success.
The Decatur shelter was not able to take her in, and she would most likely get put down if she went there. So my parents decided to adopt her to prevent that from happening.
Unfortunately, my parents already have a dog and she is small and old. The new dog is still young (around 3 years old) and tries to play with her but she goes a little rough because she doesn't know her strength and ends up hurting the smaller dog. The smaller dog is starting to become scared and apprehensive about walking around the house, so we're trying to find a new home for her.
She is a super sweet dog, really smart and docile. She is somewhat trained as well because she follows commands very well. She loves to cuddle and follows you around the house all day, she really likes being with people. She is also potty trained so she does her best to hold it in until you put her outside to pee and poo.
Overall she is an amazing dog. But unfortunately, she is not compatible with our existing dog so we are very upset that we cannot keep her.
All we are trying to do is make sure that she goes to a home that will love and care for her just as we do.
If anyone knows of someone looking for a pet or knows "someone that knows someone" etc, please feel free to reach out, any help is extremely appreciated!
My email is hashimotobreno@gmail.com and my phone # is (317)599-5500. I appreciate in advance any efforts to help us find this sweet angel a nice home.
Below is a picture of her, she is really sweet and loving :)
Where’s a really good place to buy wood pellets?
I’ve heard it’s a great alternative to cat litter, but I don’t know where you would go and buy them.
is that something Harbor freight would have or is there some other store that sells wood pellets that are really reduced price?
Found this recently, thought it would be fun to share. Only went to a few but always had a great time there.
Who has the best mac and cheese in Peoria/surrounding area?
Does anybody in Peoria listen to house music? If so where do house music djs perform around here
Hi, I was wondering if yall had some suggestions for restaurants that are kid friendly and big family friendly. We are hoping to celebrate the day we became a family all together but there is 6 of us with kids from 9 to 2 years of age.
Thanks
Where can i find duck eggs here in Peoria???
Was by W Camp street and saw a cat roaming close to the road right across from Huck's gas station. Medium/long haired black and white cat, looked well taken care of but I urge you guys to keep an eye out if you're driving near that area or live nearby.
Unfortunately I didn't get a picture because I was in a car but it was pretty close to the road and it really worried me. Hoping this post reaches someone who might know who the cat belongs to or has also seen the cat
Hi all!
I live in Metamora and have been considering permanent Christmas lights. I really want lights, but struggle to find the time to get them up, plus the constant struggle of replacing bad lights.
I've been considering getting permanent lighting, but am curious of others experiences. I've seen where you can just buy permanent ones online and put them in, but idk how well they work, how long I could expect them to last, etc.
I'm also curious if there is some sort of local service who I could instead utilize to put lights up and then could rely on for continued maintenance of them throughout the years.
Thanks for any info!
In CO i could find them at health food stores and feed stores but I'm having no luck here in the Peoria area. I've looked at the bigger grocery stores and called a few smaller ones.
Anyone know where I can buy rye berries here within 30 min of Peoria?
I remember from my childhood seeing the movie Ghostbusters at a movie theater that is no longer around in Peoria. The movie theater I am thinking about was located where Perkins and the Super 8 is now. My wife and her family say there was never a theater there and I know from my memory there was indeed a theater there. Can anyone on here confirm that there was a theater there and perhaps say what the name of it was?
Warm up with us at The Great Room! ☕️ Join us for hot cocoa and hot toddies as we celebrate Peoria’s 137th Annual Santa Claus Parade.
Perhaps the coolest garage sign in Peoria
My SIL is in town and looking for something to help with her anxiety. She’s tried delta-8 and it made her feel sleepy, but didn’t help with mental anxiety.
Can you recommend a dispensary to visit that could listen to her and recommend something for her?
Thanks
Missing 13 year old mostly deaf black cat at Brandywine Crossing Apartments
UPDATE: Many good neighbors have given me some leads and there’s two that stick out to me and seem very probable: First spotting was a few days ago near the 74 on ramp toward Galesburg off War Memorial in all that grassy area nearby. We’ve searched extensively twice a day in and around that area with no luck. Then today I got another lead that looks good because it seems to line up with the direction I’ve been thinking she most likely has been heading: She was seen walking around Knoxville and W Northridge Lane. That was around 10am this morning but unfortunately haven’t been able to check it out today. We don’t have a car, busses don’t run today, and it’s too far and cold to walk. My wife is down with walking pneumonia-possibly from the extensive time spent in cold weather searching for her all week twice a day. I’m going to search that area myself tomorrow when the busses are running.
So just if you’re out and about anywhere around that side of town and see a black cat that without a collar please shoot me a message. She’s so friendly and chill though so if you’re willing to pick her up and get her out of the cold I would be forever grateful. If anyone finds her we will certainly offer a monetary reward that we can afford right now. She is a very good passenger and will ride in your car easily and calmly.
Thank you mods for letting me repost with a bit more insight into her possible location before tomorrow where a lot of people will be out and about.
*Thank you to everyone who has read my posts, kept your eyes open, reached out, shared, and even at least one stranger who has gone above and beyond searching themselves and letting businesses/vets in the area aware. Everyone’s help has been eye opening and very touching. I’m so appreciative and very proud of my kind and helpful neighbors.
Happy Holidays everyone and be safe and warm out there tomorrow.

Our 13 year old all black cat “Catherine” ran out to the deck at night without being noticed a couple days ago. We have been searching like crazy but haven’t found her yet. We are very worried and would appreciate if anyone even spots her to please let me know. We are desperate to have her back. She’s been an indoor cat her entire life. She’s very hard of hearing but extremely friendly and loves head pats and snuggles. Please get ahold if you see her. If you’d like to get her out of the cold she is super friendly and not skiddish at all and will most certainly let you scoop her up.
Please Brandywine Crossing neighbors, if you even think you spot her shoot me a message or if you take a pic I’ll send my number to send it to. Any help is appreciated. I’m not allowed to post missing posters anywhere on the property which is a disappointment but I understand and assumed that would be the case. But I will post on poles, like the bus stop nearby and houses behind us.
I'm in Peoria this year for the last time (it's my hometown) after my parents both passed within the past year.
They were Peoria natives and that's where my sister and I both grew up as well. Anyhow we are selling their home this weekend, and we're both in the area (I live in Utah now with my family of 6 and my sister in the Netherlands with her husband); we're not meeting for Christmas and wanted to go Black Friday shopping tonight; pardon my lack of knowledge on what is still open for Black Friday tonight.
Please let me know if places like Target, the mall (Grand Prairie, Northwoods) are still open tonight; thank you!
Have a great Thanksgiving,
Juli
We’re unexpectedly missing Thanksgiving dinner due to illness today, and wondered if there’s anywhere in Peoria offering pickup? Any restaurants open? Thanks in advance!
We’ve seen multiple photos of city workers removing items from camp today and wanted to let folks know that this was done on the request of outreach workers. The city was NOT there to tear down the camps.
2 nights ago a HOUSED person brought two dogs into one of the encampments. These dogs were raised to breed other dogs, to be vicious and intimidating, and have already bitten multiple people. On this night the dogs attacked multiple unhoused individuals. The dog attack went on for 15 minutes, and after attempts to tase one of the dogs failed, the dog was killed by officers who responded to the scene. The other dog was taken into custody. At least two people were sent to the hospital, one of whom required surgery. The other person was released from the hospital after midnight, wearing only paper scrubs and hospital socks. They were released to the street to go back and sleep in the bloody tent where they were attacked, with head to toe open dog bite wounds, some that went to the bone.
We currently have this person in a hotel, and they’re being cared for by the street medical team.
There was a large amount of blood on sight, so city workers removed many items at the request of an outreach supervisor.
The person with the dogs was arrested on an already existing warrant. Again, the person with the dogs was HOUSED. The person with the dogs has long been considered dangerous by many camp residents and most try to avoid this person. This HOUSED person came into the encampment, sent multiple people to the hospital, and traumatized everyone who lives in this camp.
And we didn’t want to have to post this, because we know that some people will just use this as another strike against a population with so many strikes already against them. But we have said this before and we will say it again: unhoused folks are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators.
No one wants to live like this. No one.
Edit: the anti-encampment ordinance recently passed by City Council does not go into effect until December 18th... Right before Christmas.
The mayor's nephew got mad at Crusen's on Farmington Rd, pulled out a pew pew and fired it at another employee who called him short and asked him why he drives a big truck. Little Brock Ardis fled to the Indiana border where he was picked up in Danville.
Aw! Thanksgiving Eve memories of Peoria's yesteryear <3
The new Chicago Sports Network is now live in Peoria on antenna channel 19-4. It’ll require you to rescan the channels on your TV. It’ll carry Bulls, Blackhawks and White Sox games without having to have cable.
Does anyone know anything about the supposed layoffs at Liberty Steel in Bartonville? Supposedly layed off remaining 200 employees today, with no defined return date, but not before mid-Feb 2025.
Hey everyone, I plan on moving at the end of December or early January to Peoria. I’ve been looking for housing for a couple of months in peoria but seem to see a few poor reviews on housing near N University St
I’m seeking 1 bdrm , onsite or in unit laundry either within Peoria or neighborhood communities 10-20 minutes grow downtown. My budget is around $600-900 I’ve seen that Forest Park has good reviews and is affordable. I’ve looked at Knoxville, Timberlane, and Tiffany Point but have seen mixed reviews. I’ve heard to avoid Glen Willows, Nordic, and Stonecrest. I plan on staying in the area for a year and would appreciate any advice on what areas to avoid or additional housing options
