Of course, it depends, but I would pick a live/bootleg over an album and it would depend on the time of day and what mood I’m in, but right now, I’d pick The Gorge, July 22, 2006.
What would you play, right now? What album? What bootleg? What song?
So Ed will have another DJ spot on the PJ channel on Sirius come it up.
9pm EST.
I caught his show earlier today not sure if it is a repeat or live. But it was cool.
He played bands from Ohana. Worth it if ya can check it out.
Boy has a back up career with butter voice and music choices.

Just wondering if anyone in the 10 Club can answer this for me, my friend was able to get us Golden Circle standing tickets just through general sale. She’s not in the 10 Club though. If I am in the 10 Club but am using her one of her tickets am I still eligible for the earlier entry? Thank you!
I want to start off by saying how important it is for people to interpret art. Paintings, books, movies, music, all mean something specific to each of us, regardless of the artist’s intent. When PJ plays Alive to thousands of fans, you feel a cathartic ‘we’re all here, together, alive at the same moment in time.’ A stadium full of people saying a collective ‘fuck you’ to life’s challenges; it’s a beautiful thing regardless of the story Ed was telling when he penned the lyrics.
So why care about Ed’s lyrical intent if he himself says the meaning has changed throughout the years?
I’d argue that it takes on a different significance if you take the time to look at the stories Ed is telling. To me, the mamasan trilogy (Alive, Once, Footsteps) and the Daugher/Rearview Mirror combo is right up there with Steinbeck’s East of Eden in addressing the concept of free will in relation to family trauma.
The son in Alive is molested by his mother and he goes on to become a prostitute killer in Once. Footsteps is about blaming his mother for his actions that resulted in murder and his being on death row. ‘I did what I had to do, if there was a reason, it was you.’ He, like Aron Trask in East of Eden, can’t get over his family trauma.
In Daughter, a little girl is abused for having a learning disability. The shades go down both figuratively and literally as the abuse happens. In Rearview Mirror, she states: ‘I guess it was the beatings, made me wise.’ In the end, she, like Adam Trask, is able to put the past behind her and 'finally the shades are raised.'
Note: the mamasan trilogy has been explained by Ed numerous times, while the connection between Daughter and Rearview Mirror, to my knowledge, has not. Someone leaving an abusive situation and the shades finally being raised leads many to believe the songs are about the same person. There could also be an argument for adding Why Go to make it a trilogy as the girl in the song is institutionalized by her parents. There just isn't the same direct lyrical connection as there is for Daughter and Rearview Mirror.
Two different stories of abuse, two different outcomes.
The idea of Timshel in East of Eden, the freedom to choose your own moral path rather than have it dictated by external factors, is an idea we as humans have grappled with forever. Why do some people who experienced alcoholic family members as a child become alcoholics when they’re older? Why do others never touch a drop? Why is abuse often generational? Do we control our destinies or do environmental factors and genetics (and maybe just as importantly, epigenetics) make free will almost a moot concept?
Again, I am all in favor of interpretation. The best art is evergreen because each new set of eyes sees it through the context of their own lives. But there is also something to be said for understanding artistic intent. Ed is one hell of a storyteller and it pays to see the stories as he originally intended.
I came to the end of my months long chronological listening journey where I spent 1-2 weeks with each album, hearing most of the discography for the first time.
I’m sad! Not having any new albums to look forward to is depressing.
On that note, I want to approach lost dogs the right way as it’s mostly songs I’ve never heard.
The goal is to extend the new music as long as possible. A few ideas:
Open to your thoughts!
Besides lost dogs I still have the Temple of the Dog album, mother love bone and green river, Eddie solo and related side projects, and obviously tons of live albums.
I’m going to do a lengthier post on overall thoughts, but my current recap is:
Best Album: Ten Favorite Album: No Code Worst Album: Gigaton Underrated Album: Backspacer Overrated Album: Vitalogy (biggest highs and lows swings imo) Favorite Era: late 90s Best song: Better Man Favorite non obvious song: in hiding
My favorite song is Given to fly, it just fills me with emotions, I wish there was a video. Asked AI to create an image that represents that song and this was the result, isn’t perfect but I think it’s pretty good!
"Pearl Jam explores the same core set of themes over the life of the band, asking and answering the same questions in response to the ever-shifting context of their personal lives and our shared experiences. Each album exists in a conversation with itself while questioning and reassessing the conclusions of earlier records. The music process anger, grief, and disappointment over our shared failure to live up to our expectations for each other and ourselves. Our biggest collective sin is stripping our fellow travelers of their humanity, and Pearl Jam's long history of social and political action, including their pro-choice, pro-democracy, pro-environmentalism, feminist, and anti-war commitments is best understood in that context."

Have been playing guitar now like 3 years. Last time I played electric was probably like 4 years ago. Bought my first proper electric yesterday and have essentially been cranking out some pearl jam the last like 4 hours ahaha.

Looks like a great deal
Hi all, M27 here, just got my first pearl jam concert ticket ever. Been a fan since last 5 years only but man I wish I had heard of them before. Anyway, I'm from South Asia and PJ ain't doing a show there, so my partner and I are travelling to Sydney for their Dark Matter tour. I've got the ticket from Ticketmaster web app but am not well versed with any major concert culture outside of my country. Like what are the do's and don'ts, what to keep in mind and things that are good to have. Do I need to get a physical ticket or wristband from the box office at the venue? I'm flying down under for the first time as well. Excited as much as I am to witness my dream band play live, I am heck scared for travelling overseas for the first time as well as watching the gig. Just need your help to prep, my folks, any links, tips, etc, just anything would help. Thanks in advance. Would mean a lot.

I love this outtake. One of the many reasons we need another Lost Dogs! The lyrics make me think of a Tremor Christ sequel of sorts. It might be just a coincidence, though. Anyway, It is an amazing song and I really hope we get an official release someday!
Any one know where I could find a good audio version of Eddie's Ship Song cover? The ones I find on YouTube are pretty poor quality.
