Now that DDL has officially come back, we may see in the distant future a third collaboration with PTA.

I'm just saying, now that Daniel Day-Lewis has officially come back with another feature ("Anemone" i believe is called), the possibility of seeing in the distant future a third film with him and PTA has gotten more tangible and real.

Who knows, he may even do a third film with Scorsese, as teased last year by the filmmaker himself at the NYFC Gala Awards.

But the point is, suddenly the possibility is more concrete.

Quite possibly my favorite song in any PTA movie

While there's so many other great songs in his movies ("Best of My Love" in Boogie Nights, "Wise Up" in Magnolia, "He Needs Me" in Punch Drunk Love, "Slow Boat to China" in The Master), this song has been stuck in my head since I watched Licorice Pizza for the first time 6 months or so ago. Something about it just perfectly captures the hazy, wistful vibe of the movie.

That said, the entire LP soundtrack is criminally underrated, in my opinion.

What actors do you most want to see work with PTA?

Our guy has obviously worked with the best of the best (DDL, Amy Adams, Joaquin Phoenix, Tom Cruise, Julianne Moore, and on and on and on). But who are some actors you'd like to see him work with going forward? DiCaprio likely would've been on this list at one point, but obviously that's changing with BC Project. So, who else do you want to see work with PTA?

My personal choice would be Nic Cage. Cage is a great actor with the right script and director, and he brings such a wonderfully weird vibe to his work that I could see PTA channeling well similar to how strange a movie like The Master is. Cage could knock something like that out of the park.

Those that struggle with Inherent Vice

Please find a way to read the novel. It makes the movie so much better!

Its an easy read. Its like a dreamy Raymond Chandler Pulp book.

You get more insight into Doc and his family and every new scene feels like a deleted scene inserted back into the movie.

When i read the book I pictured all the same actors and locations and when all these new scene’s were read i was able to easily fill in the blanks.

I cant encourage you guys more to give the book a chance. It really will enhance your experience with the movie.

Inherent Vice re-watch

"She went all groovy on us."

Saw Inherent Vice last night. This was my 3rd viewing of the film. And I must say I enjoyed this movie the most last night. It was really a ride. That confusion and frustration of a understanding everything was almost gone and it felt like I submitted myself to the dreamy quality of the film. I still had some questions and some things took time to process (That sex scene between Shasta and Doc), some specific things relating to California was a bit difficult to digest, the mystery of the Golden Fang felt like a scam but also so much fun. There was a lot of enjoyment to be had but also so much character depth and complexity.

This time around I loved Josh Brolin's performance the most. There is an air of melancholy to him and the way his expresses himself throughout the film feels like extreme reaction, be it anything. I loved his dynamic and relationship with Sportello. They feed off of each other. They also share so many funny and witty one-liners. I wish there was more of Benicio Del Toro cause he's a hoot. Loved and appreciated the film so much more this time around. Hope to join the "Inherent Vice is the greatest movie ever" league after my 4th or 5th watch.

What's the deal with this lady? I feel like this would have been Daniel's wife if he fully bought into the church and the community....

I feel like there was a path there if he wanted to go that way...

I've officially come to the conclusion that this is my favorite movie of all time.

While I love all of PTA's work, re-watching Boogie Nights for the I don't even know how many-th time recently made me realize that this is, in fact, my favorite movie ever made. There are some others that are potentially in the running but nothing quite matches the combination of entertainment value (what other movie is this quotable, funny, sad, thrilling, and sexy?), technical wizardry (the tracking shots, whip pans, editing tricks, needle drops, references to Altman/Scorsese/Demme), acting virtuosity (arguably the best thing ensemble of any movie I've ever seen) and heart (for a coked out movie about 70s and 80s porn, it's weirdly heartwarming and sweet).

Anyway, I have nothing more to add other than to express my appreciation for this movie's existence.

David O’Russel

Bear with me here, do yall think at one point O’Russel was doing his best PTA impression? His ensemble films seem to slightly mimic PTA’s style.

My Favorite Piece of Film Score

While I love Jonny Greenwood's work with PTA, my favorite piece of music in any of PTA's work is this piece from Jon Brion's score of Magnolia. And not only is it my favorite piece of music from a PTA movie, it's my favorite piece of original score from any movie period (and that's saying a lot). It's so good, it nearly gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

The combination of instruments and the sweeping melody perfectly encapsulate the weirdness, the melancholy, and the hope that makes Magnolia such a remarkable piece of work.

What is your favorite piece of score from PTA's work?

Phantom Thread is the absolute perfect movie to watch on a rainy day, in my opinion

While not thought of as a "holiday movie" per se, PTA really built such a warm and cozy ambiance in this movie. It's been rainy in my area recently and this movie is just a perfect pairing for this kind of weather, in my opinion.

Does anyone lip-read? Next to him is Bennett Miller but the one with his behind back, is that Edward Norton?

Here is the video in case it still doesn't show up: https://www.gettyimages.de/detail/video/paul-thomas-anderson-at-the-87th-annual-nachrichtenfilmmaterial/464293828?adppopup=true

Where's the first look?

It's time to release a first still. Quite a few 2025 films have released their first looks through Vanity Fair (including Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein, Lynne Ramsay's new film and a new Edward Berger film with Colin Farrell, all of which have just wrapped) but nothing from this.

This has got to start its marketing now. PTA's usual secrecy, which IMO is silly in the best of times, is incredibly unwise for this. There's no harm at all in releasing a photo of Leo in character now.

I do wonder though if WB might be panicking over this after the election. Are those wrap gifts, with the 2016 humor and references, emblematic of the film (I hope not, tbh)? Trump not only was re-elected, he won the popular vote. Zaslav already seems to be publicly yielding to him. Could this film have a very bumpy road ahead of it?

What is PTA's one story?

Thinking about that James Baldwin quote that every writer has one story and wondering what y'all might think PTA's is -- if it can even be summed up in a single sentence. Obviously, there's the effect that parents have on their children that's there subtly and less subtly in all of his films (save for maybe Inherent Vice) - but I feel there's something larger?

The Battle of Baktan Cross

Realistically, is this a title that will end up on the final product as PTA's first mega budgeted movie or will it go the way of "Soggy Bottom/Licorice Pizza" and get a new rename?

If so, what new name suggestions do y'all got? Or do you think it's just crazy enuff to stay?
