Human/cat? Parasites identification

Hello. I have been very ill for 2 years because I was infected with a parasite, which I think was transmitted to me by my cat (found in the street). I have multiple symptoms: tiredness, weight loss, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, anal itching, very painful stings near the anus and on the buttocks. Blood tests are normal. Stool tests reveal nothing. I recently learned that they are based on the search for parasite eggs and not on the direct search for larvae or parasites. In terms of observations, I see small dots on the toilet paper as big as the head of a needle. Once, after taking a natural laxative medication, a sort of 15/20 cm pearl necklace came out of the anus. According to my research on the internet, these are parasite egg sacs. I checked carefully, it's not a piece of worm. This necklace is totally symmetrical, made up of small almond-shaped bags 5mm long, separated from each other by 1mm, all identical. Unfortunately I was unable to have it analyzed or take a photo. I also find small white dots in my underwear, especially during episodes of severe itching. Finding it surprising that the stool tests revealed nothing (even though I can see dots on the toilet paper), I bought a microscope and visualized what I see on the toilet paper and in my underwear. I discovered a larva and an adult specimen, but these photos look nothing like the photos of common parasites I find on the internet. Hoping that someone competent can help me because the doctors in France do not want to look and I am therefore condemned to find a solution to get rid of it myself! I have increased the number of anti-parasitic treatments which have a limited and temporary effect. The same goes for antibiotic treatments.

Parasites tests

Hello, what are the most accurate parasite tests? I know of the microscopy stool test and the parasite antibody test, but am wondering how accurate these tests are? Any data on false negatives/positives? Going to see an infectious disease doctor near me soon about parasites

Not the snail: What are these?

Found these freaks piling near my new snail friends, north Texas. Are they dangerous? Or just some type of worm?

How high is the demand for parasitologists in the United States?

Probably a stupid question, sorry. I’m a student on my path to becoming a clinical lab technologist but I would LOVE to work in clinical parasitology research at some point. Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

other subreddits referred me here..

for parasite identification- specifically for Fasciolopsis buski. I have an image but not a scale alongside it and it wasn’t taken under a microscope. Does anyone know where I can take this clean (no feces) image for group feedback? thanks

Microfilaria Testing Query

Question for the parasitologists who are familiar with blood parasite infections. Is it very hard to find wucheria bancrofti microfilaria? The CDC guidelines state it takes multiple blood tests taken over 3 days. Trying to get some clarity on this and would appreciate any input.

Cysticercoid vs cysticercus

Parasitology crisis!!! (Tapeworm exam)

Hello! I'm studying for a parasitology exam, but I can't seem to understand the difference between cysticercoid and cysticercoid larval stages. Can someone explain what differenciates them? Thanks💕

Need Ideas for a Host/Parasite Relationship Activity

Halo!

Sooo I have been tasked with teaching a class about host/parasite relationships. The way I want to do it is that:

- Parasites will be created with clay.

- Thinking about adding a weight max (ex. 500 grams) and size max

- Camouflage (more aesthetic)

- Will be adapted to a singular host

I need ideas for "HOST" organisms. So like cups, wood, boxes etc but I need the mouth parts that they create for their parasites to be inserted into the "hosts" and I dont want them to be boring.

Forgot to add that of course they need to stick onto their host but also easily removed and have them stick onto other "hosts" (specialist and generalist comparisons).

Maybe implement an upside down test?

Are there any good parasitology podcasts?

I think the entire field is fascinating and would love to hear more. Any recommendations?

Question about potential exposure

Good day everyone!

I know this all will probably sound ridiculous. But I'm a very paranoid and suffer from PTSD and anxiety disorders. Please be nice 😅

I'm an avid outdoors person and spend a lot of time near the water. I was recently fishing and accidentally put the butts of my fishing rod handles on some old, dried up, river otter scatt. It was also covered up my some leaves and scattered around a bit. It has definitely been there for a minute.

I know that many freshwater animals can carry parasites. So I quickly rubbed down my rod handles with sanitizer and rinsed them off in the lake. I did later learn that alcohol does literally nothing to nematode eggs and other parasites.

So I spent the day fishing and touching my rod and reels and lures.

Anyway, is there a chance I could get infected from this route? Is it possible that I could spread eggs around? Do I need to cean my gear and anything I've touched?

On the plus side, I did catch a whole bunch of bass 😎

As a side note, I used to find nematodes through my little microscope as a kid in samples of pond water from my back yard. They're pretty neat to look at!!!

Thank you in advance.

White-tail deer disease/ parasites

Is anyone familiar with parasites associated with white tail deer? As a kid my family raised a herd of whitetail deer so as a child I frolicked around with deer and raising fawns as my babies because bottle feeding you essentially become the mama lol

Usually the only real concerns we had with them was preventing cwd and blue tongue. Every so often they’d look “wormy” and would have to deworm them so I was just wondering what exactly is the parasites associated with white tail deer most commonly? Are any of these zoonotic? I don’t know that any of us ever considered things spread by deer as my sister and I were in charge of the fawns so we spent the most time up close and personal with them lol but I know there was a period of time my sister couldn’t eat deer meat without becoming extremely sick for whatever reason lol

Can toxoplasma gondii be inhaled through steam?

Anyone who knows a lot about this parasite, can it be inhaled through steam or would the boiling water kill it immediately? I’ve seen studies that it can be inhaled through dust, but almost nothing about steam.

Dirofilaria immitis microfilaria from EDTA whole blood

Our newly adopted dog tested positive for heartworm. We've started the poor guy on treatment and he's doing well so far. We live in Arizona where it isn't super prevalent but we DO have it. Very good opportunity to learn more about these worms. Everytime someone claims we don't have heartworm in Arizona I'll show them this video.

Chemical decontamination of Baylisascaris procyonis

TL;DR Any recommendations for the best chemical decontamination of decking soiled by raccoons? Is there any research RE: Disinfecting eggs and larvae of Baylisascaris procyonis?

I'm away from my house for the Winter and my vacant property has been chosen by a local raccoon tribe as a latrine location. Outdoor stairway. Usually, I would just remove the scat and clean with a bleach solution....but is there anything better?
