Worried about inhalation of raccoon urine and contracting viruses not sure who to talk to

So long story short we had raccoons in our attic a couple years back, had a company come and seal the openings (or so thought all the openings) fast forward to tonight and I heard a dripping from the attic pull down ladder that I had taped off. I got some of what was dripping on a paper towel and I foolishly took a sniff of the paper towel and it did smell like urine. I pulled down the attic and went up and couldn't see any pools of urine anywhere but it was wet along the edge of the steps, I did however see a pile of feces from an unknown animal (probably raccoon) that I know wasn't there after the wildlife people came through a couple years ago and sprayed and sealed off openings. I also have heard scratching still here and there since then but nothing like before we had the men come in. So maybe it was raccoons or maybe something else but the dropping were about the size you would expect from a small dog. So I am freaking out over this cause I got some of the drops on my hand and arm too, I washed my hands and took a shower and changed all my clothing and stuff after all of this but i'm still worried now because of this interaction, I don't wanna get sick with god knows what. Be it roundworm, or some other parasite, or even if a rabid animal got saliva mixed into the urine or whatnot. I wore a kn95 mask (not sure if it was tight enough though), no gloves. So not sure if I might have inhaled any dust with nasties when I went up to investigate. Also there's still drippings of whatever this was that seeped into the carpet in the hallway and we don't really have any way of clearing that out.

What percentage of organisms are considered parasites?

I understand a lot of relationships between organisms can be symbiotic or communal but I’m wondering what percentage of organisms that we are aware of have their main relationship be parasitism.

Worms or squirrel ribs?

I was at my falconry friend’s house this morning. Before we flew her, she cast this pellet.

Trying to figure out if these are worms or if it could be ribs from the squirrel he had been feeding her? We both initially thought worms, but then he thought it might be bones.

The bird is a Red Tailed Hawk and we live in Northwest Ohio.

Anyone else hate those diy parasite cleanse people on instagram???

I have no idea why people are so specifically obsessed with parasite cleanses online, it’s an odd trend considering parasites have undergone natural selection to not drastically harm their hosts and assumingly your gut is not full of every sp. that can have us as a host. It’s certainly something when they have to perform parasite cleanses monthly, like are you working in a manure eating plant???

Help Needed with Nematode Identification for Thesis

Hi everyone! I’m currently working on identifying various STH found in vegetable samples (mostly nematodes) for my thesis. Does anyone know of experts that might assist with this kind of identification? Any tips or advice would also be hugely appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

What kills Roundworm eggs?

Genuine answer needed here, why hasn’t humanity not figured out how to kill roundworm eggs except through heat? What happens if someone doesn’t wipe themselves well and happens to smear eggs on a door handle, why can’t we spray something that kills them. I know that handwashing and immune system but average ascarisis lays 20000 eggs a day…so what happens if someone has multiple and is just spreading it?

Questions about Naegleria Fowleri (and other naughty amoebas)?

I hope you are well! Sorry to bother you all, I just had a quick question if I may!

I live in the UK. Last night I was washing out my indoor cat water fountain (originally filled up by tap water) as I noticed the filter inside of it had green specks (looked like mold, algae or some sort of biofilm). Clearly the filter hadn't been changed in a while. As I was washing it all out in the sink, a few droplets of the old fountain water splashed up in the nostril. I quickly wiped my nose and didn't think much of it at the time. Later that evening I conducted a sinus rinse on both nostrils, as per normal.

I then later read about 'amoebas' and other parasites that live in stagnant bodies of water and the risks to health is has (such as Naegleria Fowleri etc). My concern is that there is a possibility those dirty droplets of water that landed in my nostril, which I then potentially forced further up my nose with a sinus rinse could have put me at risk of serious infection.

Thanks in advance guys! I know the vast majority of you are experts in this field so I can only apologise if this is a stupid question lol

What do we know about toxoplasmosis oocysts indoors?

There is lots of research about them in moist areas e.g. soil, sand and water. Does anyone know of any research about how they survive indoors or on surfaces, from an infected cat?

Cat with sarcocystis neurona

Hi there, I know this is not a vet forum but we adopted a feral kitten who tested positive for s. Neurona in her fecal. So far, she is totally symptom free but the vet did not have a lot of answers for us concerning how this will effect her life. Does anyone know anything about this parasite and how it plays out in cats? Will she have it forever? Does the parasite continue to proliferate inside the cat until it becomes symptomatic? Can she develop antibodies for it after having it and being asymptomatic?

I just want to reiterate that the kitten has been totally asymptomatic so I'm just looking at what the parasitology community might know about this rare (at least for my area) parasite and how it effects cats. It seems like it's pretty rare, my vet had to go back to her college textbooks to even figure out what it was. And even then, the books mostly focused on how it can effect horses/livestock.

Thank you for your time!

Preventative cleaning

Idk if this is suitable for this subreddit but i figure someone here will have a good answer.

I work outdoors, my studio and supplies are usually outside. I am an artist and make paints and such, and my table is outside as well, not safe for the kids inside. I sanitize it every time before use with bleach or alcohol in between uses.

I am very paranoid as I am going through a battle with a helminth infection and I am worried about eggs or larva on the surface or attracted to the organic matter I work with.

What can I use as an effective disinfectant/sanitizing/sterilizing whatever method to make sure that everything is cleaned because Im reading that even lab cleaning chemicals have little effect on eggs. I know I may be over the top on this, but does anyone have suggestions?
