I’ve had these for 2 years after Covid. No one has helped - only hurt. I’m gathering info on a website to try and find answers so if everyone shares we can figure it out. It’s HTTPS://itsalive.skin/ Please join if you have this.
Especially the embryonated ones. I know they can live for a very long time in the soil but I can't find any information on their survival on dry surfaces, like plastic or fabric.
I share a yard in Northeast US. Went outside with my dog and saw this. I don’t think he has a tapeworm. But potentially my neighbors dog does or maybe the bunnies in the yard? There is loads of bunny poop. Should I be concerned if it is a tapeworm?
I need to clarify for myself what this group’s actual purpose is.
So, here are two interesting academic articles I pulled from reputable sources.
If you actually hear for scientific reasons, you will want to read them and discuss them.
If you are just here to spread misinformation, see gross things, and abuse vulnerable people, you won’t bother.

I predict this post will either will get proverbial crickets or vitriol filled down votes and abuse…but I guess we ashall are.

At our lab, we frequently perform stains using the VetOne Dip Quick Stain Kit (Rapid Differential Stain Kit with Light Blue Fixative, Red, and Blue components). During these procedures, I encounter parasites and atypical or questionable white blood cells (WBCs), and I would like to preserve these specimens for future educational purposes to show both current and new team members.
I’m seeking advice on the best permanent mounting medium for this purpose. We have options like Canada Balsam, DPX, Permount, Glycergel, Eukitt, among others. Could you provide guidance on which medium is most suitable for preserving these types of specimens, along with any preferred brands or sources?
I understand the general procedure involves staining, drying, applying the permanent mounting medium, and sealing the coverslip with glue or clear nail polish.
Additionally, if someone applies immersion oil directly to the specimen (without a coverslip) and the specimen is something unique I wish to preserve, is it still possible to salvage it, or is the specimen permanently compromised?
If a parasite has been floated using a fecal flotation reagent, such as “Preserved Sugar Solution,” how would this affect the parasite when transferring it onto a new slide for permanent mounting? Are there any considerations or potential issues with using a permanent mounting medium after this step?
80% of this sub are crackheads asking about whether or not they have pinworms, ringworms, or tapeworms that they haven't even seen.
Disappointed.. I wanted a freaky worm community.
I was recently browsing TIFU when I read the top post worms story and I eventually looked up what they were and the symptoms were exactly what I had 6 years ago except for seeing the worm (which makes total sense I am a chronic nail biter). I was too embarrassed to tell my parents anything so I never got any treatment.
Now I read that pinworms stay in the human body without treatment forever?? I don’t have symptoms now I haven’t had them since 6 years ago but I’m still a chronic nail biter. All I need to know is if I should go to the doctor, because it’s still really embarrassing and I’m not keen to approach anyone to take me.
one of them died in the water dish and about 20 small, pure white worms came out of it. they were about 2cm long and very thin and cylindrical. they were slowly squirming around and kind of writhed when i grabbed one with tweezers. any ideas?
Saw the rule for this sub “Only images taken with a microscope are allowed, all others will be deleted. This includes pictures of fecal matter.” So it seems this is not the place. Any input appreciated. Thank you.
Giardia cysts, from cat feces. it has to be one of my favorite parasites
yesterday, we found little kitten. It was very cold outside and I have no idea how long it was there alone, or where it came from.
We took it home, gave it food and it ate ravenously. After eating, it started pooping bloody diarrhea, and later whole live ascaris worms
We brought it to the vet, where it got deworming medicine, antibiotics, and B vitamins. The vet was not sure if the cat will make it, but that was yesterday. By today the kitten is lively and playful and full of energy
we have a litterbox, and the kitten tries to go poop there, but sometimes it does not make it in time and poops diarrhea on the way (it even tries to "bury" the poop that is on the floor same as it does in the litterbox)
It still has diarrhea, but I did not see any worms in stool after the vet visit. Will the worms pass whole, or will they be dissolved?
anyways, according to the vet, the kitten is 7 weeks old. Are the worms alredy adults and infectious? from what I could find, the worms mature between 3-6 weeks
the kitten is barely off mothers milk, so I don't know how it got infected in the first place
I am afraid our household will get contaminated. We clean religiously, but its impossible 100%. The kitten is pooping all over the place
it pooped on me when I was holding it the first day, before we even knew about the worms
any advice how to disinfect the clothing that might have come in contact with poop?
Throw it away? The vet said "wash at 80C".
please, any advice is appreciated. I am not a cat person. We just found this little guy, and took it home
i’m so sorry, i have no idea if this is the right sub to post this in but im genuinely very worried. my cat was a stray that showed up around august of 2021, and by the time it started getting cold at night she’d become comfortable enough with me to stay in my room and sleep on my bed. she had absolutely no issues then and hasn’t had any issues up until about 5 days ago. i found some sort of worm on my bed, but since my cat rarely goes outside anymore, i figured it had to have been from one of my other pets. i have 2 other cats and one dog. she spends no time with the other pets as they don’t get along at all, so it didn’t even cross my mind that she may have caught something from them. i found another worm a few hours ago, and there’s no way it could’ve come from any of my other pets being in my room. i’ve tried really hard to figure out exactly what kind of worm it was, but no luck. the worm is pretty short, less than an inch long. its head (i think) is flat and the rest of its body is skinny and a bit longer, but it can like change the shape of its body?? idk how to word it. its head can go from more wide and flat to the same skinny width and length of its body, and its entire body can shrink into itself and become very small. the worm is white with no visible markings on its body. please help, i have no idea what this is and im really worried about my cat
found in mice brain, experimentally infected 400x
I want to report it, im worried it won’t do any good but I’m always triggers by such shenanigans so I wanna try. Unless there’s any truth to it ;)
Hi, this is a long shot as the image I have is very poor quality I’m afraid, but would anyone have any idea what these could be?
Recently discovered these on our gerbil and they’re causing him distress with lots of scratching. His fur seems okay but definitely some sore spots on the skin.
They have little brownish heads with red body’s. Any advice is much appreciated.
I've seen 1 bedbug sneaking towards me like 3 months ago and got bitten like 4 times from that time. They don't seem to increase in numbers and I can't really find any nests when cleaning. The bites do not feel too comfortable but they are totally ignorable. Do I really need to call fot a special crew and pay alot of money for disinsecting my house? It's an old building and they might also be coming from different levels through cracks inside the walls. Is there any threat from them besides itchy bites? Since in my current financial situation handling some itchy bite once every few weeks is way easier than calling for a crew and moving out for a week when they spray everything with insecticides.
So my cat ate a cricket and I remembered about Physaloptera worms. Does anyone know if they are common in arkansas? I searched online but found nothing.
These worms were wigglin around the end of this stick and when we got close to it they all went to the top and started reaching out towards us, what are they?
Was it our scent or body heat they were scencing?
And Idk what the yellow things are either. My guess is some sort of fungus?
Super weird to see worms like this out in the cold & rain. They were definitely not earthworms and the stick end was about 3 feet in the air
Any answers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)
