It's nostalgia overload as we discuss the most influential gaming system ever released! The original PlayStation, later called PSOne, brought a new attitude toward gaming.
Arguably the most influential gaming system ever. It changed the face of console gaming and we're here to discuss it.

Hi! im starting a gaming podcast in June and already have a small discord Community, Im looking for guests to bring games they would like to discuss and ill play through it and we will talk about the whole game and everything in it. Message me! Thanks c:
Parappa. It was always Parappa.
A great reboot of a franchise that basically started it all. The horror locked angle genre leading up to the amazing resident evil, OG version of the game that is.
However, This game was really amazing. Was it a resident evil clone? You bet. Was it made well done. You bet! It was a little of a copy cat and had some really amazing graphics for its time and the flashlight technique was really popping.
“To this end, the developers crafted an unusual graphics engine which allowed the 3D player character's flashlight to properly illuminate and cast shadows on the 2D, pre-rendered backdrops. This was accomplished by rendering the backdrops at various levels of illumination and including information on the distribution of objects in the scene. The graphics engine could then properly use brighter versions of the backdrop where the flashlight was expected to be casting light, and leave shadowed areas dark”
The story in itself was really creepy and eerie. Supernatural powers and frightening monsters were around to hunt you down and you had a partner at times to do other things such as solving puzzles if I recall correctly. Forgive me it’s been over 20 years or so I played it.
It’s a shame that this game doesn’t get mentioned more often, as I personally remember having a really good time with it, and it had those resident evil vibes like no other had up until that point.
At its release it didn’t get the great scores, but my memories are fond of this game.
If you haven’t given it a try, do it. It’s worthy of a reboot of a “forgotten” franchise. You won’t regret it, and enjoy the amazing graphics for its time whilst you are at it. It truly was a great game and gave you a good scare for your buck.
I will say, however, that it's a rather good gamepad to play PSX 3D platformers on until my Dualshock 3 controller arrives in-store (had to order one online to be dropped off at a retro games store)
Ho all, I picked up a PSX today as spares or repairs and it's not powering on. I checked the PSU and it seems the fuse has blown, there isn't any continuity. Where could I find a replacement 1.6a 250v fuse? All I can see on eBay are slow blow fuses, which I assume are not the right ones.
Don’t ask me why I’m doing this, but I am. I’ve finished the Final Fantasy games, Xenogears, and Lunar and they were all ok in difficulty, but are there any PS1 RPGs that’ll really kick my ass?
so i explained to my parents that id like to softmod my console, but as soon as i mentioned soldering they went off their head. i paid for this psx with my own money and id like to mod it so i can play homebrew ports on burnt discs ect.
edit: lmao yeah i realised in advance that i got the naming mixed up, will be trying u/birkinover's method. thanks a bunch!
I have a couple of single-disc fat-case PS1 games that I am recasing, and I can't seem to find a source of replacement disc trays without the spindle in the center. They don't necessarily need to have the PlayStation logo, just be in good condition and not have a spindle. I've tried trimming the spindle bits on a generic replacement tray, but the result doesn't look very good.
I suppose I could grab a couple of good-condition Gran Turismo cases as above, but I'd hate to have to throw away perfectly good insert art.
Any thoughts?
I'm big into the authentic feel of a game, so I was hoping there's a bluetooth controller on the market that looks and feels like one of the Dualshock controllers pre-Dualshock 4 (Dualshock 4 is essentially a prototype Dualsense imo and doesn't have the same feel to it)
I'm using my Dualsense at current time, and while one could point out that older titles are "authentically played on Dualsense" through the rereleases on PS Store, I personally find it's ever so slightly not the same...
Weird nitpicky of mine, but if anyone knows of a good company that makes bluetooth controllers in the Dualshock 1-3 stylings, I'd greatly appreciate it!
When turned on it Starts making a scratching noise and then loads into this Screen. Every couple of trys it loads into the normal loading screen but freezes. Any suggestions what the problem might be?
Platform(s): probably PSX/ maybe other? I don't think it is from ps2 but it could be considering the years
Genre: Fighting/ Could be other, but not likely
Estimated year of release: Probably mid 90's
Graphics/art style: the only clue I got about this game is truly a battlemap. It starts inside a circular stone made room (the interior of a castle's tower if I'm not wrong) and at some point, some wall breaks and both, you and your enemy fall at the base of the tower into a snow field.
Notable characters: I can only remember something remotely similar to a valkyrie and someone like a dark ages knight(?)
Notable gameplay mechanics: What I remember clearly is that the map could break, don't know if after some time or by hitting it, but map would change location at some points.
Other details: can't say much more, I played to it between 1997-2003, but it may be older.
