Hi,
in March I plan to drive by myself with a rental car from Giza to Luxor. There are different options and I wanted to check if you have any experience and can recommend a specific route.
Options I see:
Following basically the route along the Nile (along Beni Suef, Minya, Asyun, Sohag...)
There are (at least in Google Maps) couple of other options not far away from the Nile, like the route "75" east of the Nile river or there seem to be a larger road a bit to the West (outside the green area in Google Maps which represent the Nile are)
Travelling along the coast through Hurghada / Safaga
Any recommendations from travel time and saftey perspective?
Thanks
I am planning a self-drive overland trip in Africa. When Google Maps says driving time is 8 hours, how long should I calculate for actual drive time?
Anyone here ever driven any parts of the Baja Divide Trail? Any part of it, but I'm specifically interested in the stretch south of Bahia de Los Angeles.
Has anyone here taken their rig from the US to Africa? For example if I ship my Rover from Florida to South Africa what is involved to use the vehicle legally in Africa? Is there any import permits needed and can I use my US registration or does South Africa issue a temporary registration?
If anyone knows an import agent in South Africa I would definitely appreciate their contact.
We would launch our driving trip thru Africa from South Africa, we are not keeping the vehicle their permanently. Hard to find info on this bit of my trip I’m planning for.
Car rental drives in Tanzania rents out vehicles for Tanzania safari purposes as well as for any other desired travel within the borders of Tanzania.
Tanzania car rental drives Africa hires out vehicles to individuals alongside a driver guide or on self-drive. Among the vehicles that are available for car hire are Land cruiser double cabin for camping, Land cruiser with a roof top suitable for game drives or Toyota RAV-4. The land cruisers are best suitable for visits to vast wildlife national parks and the RAV-4 is comfortable for short drives and visits outside of the Tanzania national parks.
I see thats theres a million and one discussions about where to post what, when it comes to camping everyone needs to be specific, & I don’t necessarily know the difference since (obvs) i am new to this (&Reddit). So if i am asking in the wrong direction please kindly show me the right one.
So we are planning on taking a road trip to celebrate just getting married & we’ve been dying to go off-roading with my husbands f350! I have been talking about it and BAM it’s finally happening. So we are planning on going from NJ-AZ (the grand canyon) to then going to Yellow Stone and taking the most scenic routes possible through TX. Basically its going to be a long trip. We will be staying in the truck, because we want to do the whole camping everywhere thing. Get off our phones and computers, go hiking, camping in a different area everynight under all the beautiful scenic areas and the stars. 2020s been a year.. we all need a nice break.
So... questions are: any tips? For food as well, like breakfasts and lunches.. For internet, what could we do, as for gps & stuff? We have a couple ideas, but just curious to hear others. What about where we can stay? We wanted to do an over-landing kind of thing. He’s VERY crafty & i know we could make a nice camper for the truck. But if you have any ideas or pictures of yours, I’d be more than happy to see them! And for entertainment or if you know fun things to do in any of the nearby stated, id love to hear about it, maybe add it to my Spreadsheet 😅.
Thank you in advance!
Been wanting to get into overlanding but I want to be able to share the experience with my wife and 4 kids. What would be the best vehicle to use to build?
I was moderator of /r/overlanding for roughly 5 years. In that time I saw the community grow from a small handful of users to over 90k. Sadly in that time the quality of content took a nose-dive and it seemed people were more interested in sharing photos of their rig part on a dirt road or talk about their last 2 day camping trip than actually discussing overland travel. The key word being TRAVEL. Sad to say, but off-road car camping is not overland travel. There's more to it that that and that's what were here to discuss...
