I am a student in Oulu and I've been super super jealous of Tampereen Teekkarien Moottorikerho in Tampere always organising fun competitions, track events etc for students. I've been googling a lot but I can't find anything like this in Oulu. Is there such an organisation locally, even if not specifically one that's ran by students? I would like to have some fun with my silly hyundai with other enthusiasts/students that also don't have take themselves too seriously

I just applied for a couple of data engineering roles in and around oulu on duunitori website. I do not speak Finnish and so I applied to companies that do not require Finnish. I wanted to know if anyone here has applied on duunitori and what the response rate is like? Do the companies that reject send a rejection mail? What is the ratio like for companies applied to and the companies that actually respond?

Hi! I moved to Oulu in August, last year. In the beginning, I used to stay in the Sellukatu 10B building, an apartment under Osna Kodit. my deposit was 312 Euro. I left the apartment on 1st January. Unfortunately, I lost one of the 3 keys that were given to me. (Lost it in Nallikari, somewhere under the snow).

After leaving the apartment, they told me that they're gonna return my deposit fee after taking out the cost of changing the locks as I have lost one key. They told me it might cost around 100 Euros which is understandable. But after 3 months, today they have let me know that not only they're not returning a single Cent of that 312 Euro, I have to pay Extra 37 Euro to make up for the price of changing the locks. So at the end, the total cost for a single key comes to 312+37 Euro.

I am extremely low on cash because i will start my summer internship on May, and I was hoping for SOMETHING in return from Osna Kodit. Right now I am absolutely in shock and disbelief.

Is it a normal price for a mistake like this? How many locks do they have to change for making up for a single lost key?

If it is a normal amount, then I am sorry for sounding so cheap. I feel that is too harsh of a punishment.

Oulunsalon harmaat ovat siis huhutusti olentoja mitkä liikkuvat Kisakankaan alueella, eli siellä lentokentän takana olevassa metsässä & soramontuilla. Harmaita ihmismäisiä otuksia, raajat taipuvat luonnottomasti (tai sitten ei ole raajoja ollenkaan), joko tuijottavat ihmisiä tai sitten lähtevät jahtaamaan. Ja siellä metsässä tulee kuulemma usein ahdistava olo, pakokauhu, kylmiä väreitä, sellainen olo että joku tarkkailisi.

Jos muistan oikein, niin tuolle alueelle on haudattu paljon Isovihan uhreja? Tai ainakin Oulunsalossa kuoli Isovihan aikaan paljon ihmisiä. Joskus kaverin kanssa pohdiskeltiin, että jospa nämä liittyisivät toisiinsa.

Hey everyone! I have been admitted to the University of Oulu in their Master's for Product and Project Management. I am writing to ask if there are any university of Oulu alumni here whom I can seek some guidance from. If anybody else has answers to following questions I would be grateful for their help as well.

Q1: what kind of job opportunities are available for students at university of Oulu and Oulu in general? I am experienced in project management and research management. Is anyone here aware of any graduate assistantships or TAships which I can apply for? Q2: how badly will I be effected by the language barrier? I'm excellent in speaking English and I would most definitely try to learn some basic Finnish before I reach Finland. Will my chances for getting a job suffer if i don't speak Finnish very well? Q3: lastly, while I have been awarded a fee waiver for my second year. The university still expects me to pay for the first year of my studies on my own. I want to know if it would be possible to pay off a portion of the fees by working while I study.

Any and all kind of help and suggestions are welcomed as I'm quite confused whether I should take this opportunity or not? Your answers will help me in making an informed decision.

How do you guys manage this, what's the secret? I feel frustrated for having to skip health checkups because of my income. I have basic insurance from my employer, but it has to be occupational to get covered. I tried to apply for insurance with Lähitapiola but they never reached back with a quote. 🙄 I come from Eastern Europe and there I could get much more investigations done.
