Can we all agree that mega stuff Oreos are the only Oreo that doesn’t go with milk
Oreos have been my favorite cookie since I was old enough to eat cookies, and I have eaten MANY Oreos since that time. All my life, I've only had good things to say about Oreo. I used to be an Oreo junkie. The first thing I would eat every morning would be 4 Oreos with a glass of milk. So it comes with great sadness to be writing this.
About 4 years ago (or around that time) I began noticing a difference in the texture and taste of the cookie. It seemed to be random. The cookie part itself seemed to have a grainy/stale/unpleasant texture and the creme filling had an odd taste. But then I would go buy another package and they would taste fine.
So after experiencing this problem over and over, I turned to the internet to see if others were experiencing the same thing. I saw some random person say, "Before you buy, inspect the package and make sure it says made in New Hanover, NJ and not Mexico.
Taking this advice, I went to the store and started reading the labels and sure enough, some of the packages sitting on the exact same shelf would be made in Mexico, and others were from the original facility in New Jersey.
I took the New Jersey Oreos home and started tasting. Yes! These were infact the old Oreos that I grew up loving. So for years, every time I went to buy Oreos I would inspect the packages. Over the years I had discovered there was always a mixture of Mexico and NJ Oreos, until the last year or so.
That's when I would leave empty handed on many occasions, because there would be no NJ Oreos on the shelf.
Now fast forward to today, and recently they closed the NJ facility completely. Therefore I stopped eating Oreos because the taste and texture is horrible.
So in the last month, I stumbled upon something great. In my area the primary grocery store is called Kroger. I recently decided to try the store brand "double fill" cookie called Kaleidos. I wasn't expecting much, because I had tried them many years ago and been disappointed.
To my amazement, the Kroger brand double fill cookies are absolutely delicious now and blow away the texture and flavor of the Oreo brand. I even went and bought some Oreos to compare them side by side and there's no comparison. The filling of the Kroger brand is so rich that it almost tastes like cake icing and the cookie part is so light and airy that it's like eating a cloud. They remind me of how Oreos tasted when I was a kid. Even better, a pack of Kaleidos only costs around $2 and you get the same portion!
I got a free Oreo coupon in the mail from Kroger a couple weeks ago (they send me a coupon book). And so I went and got a pack of Oreos since they were free. Tried one, and spit it out.
A family member even played a prank on me and mixed in a few Oreos into my Kaleidos pack. So one day I was eating and bit into one and spit it out with a gross look on my face, but then I was told it was a prank, to the sound of laughter. That's how bad the original Oreos are now.
So it saddens me greatly to be writing this. Oreos were once the best cookie out there. But there is hope if you live near a Kroger.
There are so many different flavors out there. I'd like to try some, really. But I'm not about to spend $4 for a gingerbread, mint, birthday cake Oreo to possibly only eat 1 cookie and then dump the rest.
Does anyone know where The Most Stuf oreos are in stock / can be bought?
