Hello fellow Canadians,
This would come as an obvious one, but as a Canadian I want to play my part and make sure I contribute in the retaliation against USA. I thought of starting a thread on what we can all fo to show USA that we are enough and we don’t need them. Some obvious ones:
I am hoping that tarrifs will cause the Canadian mentality and economy to shift for closer cooperation with Europe, that includes vacations, flights, and overall getting more comfortable with the idea that the old land is the home land. Cut out the USA as much as we can from our mentality, don't need to go there for vacation, don't need there any direct flights. Remove direct flights to USA, and get more of them to Lisbon, Berlin, Rome, and Warsaw. I would love the tradeoff of replacing the USA with Europe.
Okay hear me out. I started a new job working as a host/expo at a restaurant. I started beginning of September 2024, my availability was weekends because of school. Early on, when I had to take a day off they would compensate with giving me an additional day of the week. Thus allowing me to consistently have 2 shifts a week, which was great. Blah blah blah, overtime they cut my shifts down to 1 per week, talked with manager gave me a bs exuse etc. Okay so NOW, I haven’t been on the schedule at all the past 3 weeks. Same pattern for one of my work friends who started the same time as me…she quit. I don’t wanna yap but, from instinct and context clues I can tell they’re trying to get rid of me (hiring new people, new GM doesn’t really like me etc). Honestly, I don’t really care, I’m looking for a new job nonetheless.
However, I know that I do have some tip out money still at my workplace (I want it!) AND i’m wondering since i’ve worked there over 3 months are they allowed to do this? Under ontario employment laws?
And any tip’s on how to talk to them/quit would also be useful lol.
I feel as if this would be the only way for us to win this trade war and come out of it on top even by having Canadians consume more Canadian products,An easy way of accomplishing this would be to regulate how much grocery stores can charge for Canadian made goods to stifle price gouging due to the lack of alternative options. The heads of Canadian grocery store chains have unjustifiably raised prices before what would stop them now ?
Hey guys, American here. l'm lost for words tonight. I have no idea how to express my anger with the current administration. We love Canadians, and I'm looking to visit and spend my money in Canada - Ontario- this summer. Actually I just booked my flight with Air Canada too mins ago. Please understand that Trump-supporting MAGA morons are holding the rest of us hostage too. These tariffs gonna hut us badly. We love CANADA 🇨🇦 How can we help as Americans?
Don't help them by replying to the texts! They will use your (and everyone else's) area code to determine where to focus more ads and fundraising messages.
This applies to all political parties, by the way.
The Ontario Government should promptly cancel the $100 million Starlink contract signed in November 2024 and procure services from a Canadian provider, such as Telestat or Xplore
My fiancée is from Fort Erie, and I’m from Buffalo. We've always planned for me to move there, but with Trump’s election, we’re accelerating our timeline. I plan to sell my house within the next year or so.
For those who have immigrated from the U.S., what challenges did you face during the process, particularly with immigration and importing belongings? Also, for Canadian citizens, do you have any recommendations or advice for someone making the transition from the U.S. to Canada? I’m looking forward to becoming a Canadian citizen and contributing to a country that genuinely prioritizes its people.
TL;DR: Canada has tech bro oligarchs trying to sell us out to the US and we need to organize and protest. I'm not sure where to start and am hoping people here can help.
I need help organizing/joining major protests and I have no idea where to start.
If you're unaware, Shopify's CEO Tobias Lütke defended Trump's economic attack on our country. This is a serious danger for our country, our independence and our people. Canadian journalist and political commentator Rachel Gilmore recently did an excellent video on how tech bro oligarchs have a groupchat called Build Canada where they conspire to undermine our democracy and reshape us according to their vision; i.e., where they exploit us to make even more money. These people are cozying up for Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives and we need to stop them.
We need to protest. Not just the conservative party but the corporations themselves. They have enough money that they won't have to suffer through the tariffs and economic hardships like we will. We have to make them hurt; make them political and economic dynamite so that it's dangerous for anyone to hold on to them. We need to make people care.
Does anyone know how we can do this? We need to set up protests in all major metropolitan areas as well as smaller communities. In the case of Shopify, protesting in Ottawa outside their headquarters would be especially strong. We HAVE to fight back. I know we can do this. Canucks together strong.
Timely to have just received the $200... any suggestions on what to do with it in light of tariffs? Feel like the obvious answer is to spend it on Ontario goods and services, but open to suggestions on specific things or if it makes sense to donate to certain causes.
A neighbour's tenant is parking his truck on my property at the back of my country property to hide it from being repossessed. I have asked for it to stop and he refused and got nasty. How do I tell the repo folks where to find it without knowing who the lender is?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I wanted to get some thoughts on it. Right now, in Ontario, the only religious schools that get public funding are Catholic schools. This leaves Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, and other faith-based schools to rely on private funding, which can be a major financial burden for families.
Religious schools are really important for a lot of families, as they provide education that aligns with their beliefs and values. But it seems unfair that only one religion gets public funding, while others have to pay for it themselves.
So, what do you all think? Should Ontario extend public funding to include all religious schools, or would that be too much of a strain on the system? I’d love to hear your opinions and ideas!
Not only should we buy Canadian, we should watch Canadian too. So share your favourite Canadian TV show!
Since we’re boycotting all things American. I suggest you unsubscribe and stop watching American YouTube creators. You could even send them a comment as to why.
Obviously the other big media contenders like Netflix, Disney Amazon should all go too.
From now on players will choose an Obama suit on each hand.
Hi, I am just wondering what it costs to buy a basic 6 ft. usb-c to usb-c cable suitable for use with a midi controller (probably any cable) in Ontario? Are the prices significantly higher than the US?
Someone I knew got arrested recently for some really serious charges and I want to know the status of the case. They were arrested in durham region last month and last I heard about the case they were waiting for a bail hearing. I’m not sure how fast the court system is, but I wanted to know if there was anyway for me to find out what happened to them.
I want to switch as much US products and services as I can to Canadian compagnies or other foreign companies when no Canadian alternatives is possible. So I asked Deepseek to provide me with a table of alternative services. Is there anyone who wishes to help me expand on this or make corrections if needed ?
