McCleary? Thoughts?

What kind of vibe does the town of McCleary have? I love Centralia, is it similar?

ladies please be careful at McCoys

Last night I got raped by a guy that I met there. I was there by myself and he started chatting me up and offering me drugs, and I went with him like an idiot. I don’t think that’s a regular spot for him but I definitely won’t be going there alone ever again.

EDIT: currently speaking to a staff member at the bar, I am not going to be reaching out to the cops about this

There is (was) a great Thai place downtown called Narai. This place hasn't been open for awhile. Is it gone for good?

Mason general?

Does anyone have experience with mason general for women’s health/birth center? Capital has switched to a new way of doing things and I’m really feeling like my prenatal care just isn’t being handled adequately. Considering going to mason general to see my previous doctor who moved. Any experiences?

Inslee announces State Hiring Freeze (for non-critical services)

Governor Inslee states the following:

Effective December 2, 2024, for all agencies under my direction and control, I am directing a freeze on the following: (1) hiring not related to public safety or other non-discretionary activities as listed below, (2) execution of non-essential services contracts, (3) discretionary purchasing of goods and equipment, and (4) travel.

Exempt from the freeze is hiring to fill vacancies in critical areas. Also, services contracts, goods and equipment purchases, and travel that are necessary to continue critical services or agency operations are exempt from the freeze.

The Ferguson Tree in Tumwater

I noticed this interesting tree off Little Rock Road, and I’ve been trying to figure out more about it. On the linked site, it’s referred to as a "portal," which immediately had us thinking of something like Narnia 🤪🙃. But nothing on the site really supports that theory. I’m wondering if it’s possibly a tribute to the historic Ferguson family, but I couldn’t find any clear details. Does anyone know more about it?

Vet recs for anxious dog

Hello, fellow owners of unhinged, anxious dogs.

I'm curious who you use as a vet for medications. A bit of exposition to avoid the pitfalls of responses on posts like this:

Our dog has flipped a switch post bomb cyclone, and she is now engaging in a level of self harm and destruction that is only increasing with time. Separation anxiety has always been a problem for her -- exercise, training, behavioral work, brain games, supplements, CBD don't work -- and now she needs a daily antianxiety med. She's hit a new level. She has situational meds, but girly has to get on a routine every single day with something that fixes her broken ass brain. She cannot be crated (she ate a hole in the crate in 45 min) and not all meds work for every dog (Prozac was not a fit for her) so I'd like to start trying to find something sooner than later as I anticipate some trial and error.

We can't leave the house. Our other dogs are stressed and confused. We can't keep living like this.

Our vet didn't offer us much help (not their expertise evidently) and referred us to a behavioral specialist in Vancouver, who I'm willing to use if that's what's best, but if there's someone local who has your pup on a good daily med, I'll take that referral with glee.

Please be kind. I don't need advice on crates or behavior modifications or supplements you swear work. This girl needs a prescription, and I'd like to find a vet who is versed enough to give us some options that help her.

As promised - Speed Friending!

Tired of the “Seattle Freeze” (even in Olympia)? Let’s fix that!

Cedar and Salt Events is hosting a Speed Friending event at Wild Child (Formerly Wild Man Gastropub) in Olympia! This is your chance to meet new people, make real connections, and finally grow your social circle in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Here’s how it works:

  • Chat with someone new for 5 minutes per session.
  • Walk away with a list of mutual “friend matches” within 48 hours (no awkward number exchanges needed).
  • Chill, meet people, and enjoy Wild Child's awesome vibe.

What this isn’t: A dating event. Seriously, if you’re here to sneakily look for dates, this isn’t the space for that. We’ll ban you from ALL future events. Keep it cool and platonic.

Perfect for anyone aged 21-45-ish who’s ready to beat the ice and build a community. Sound like your jam? Grab a ticket and let’s make new friends! ✌️

Now for those who I'm sure are wondering - YES - I am charging an entry fee. Why? My time ain't free y'all. There is a space rental fee, marketing fees, flyer costs, etc. Plus, when an event is free, people bail. Sad but true. parts of the interwebs tell me that the $15 range is where people start to decide they'd rather go than throw away the $. At the end of the day, SO MANY people in this sub in particular are looking to make connections and simply showing up to a random event and hoping to chat is just not realistic all the time. So, come to this event and meet a captive audience of friendly faces!

**Edit** I'm going to address the age group -

  1. 21-45 are the target ages for the downtown corridor. Yes, I researched this. Technically its 25-44. Don't get mad at me, get mad at statistics ;)
  2. All ages, age ranges, niche hobbies, etc. are on the table for future events if this does well. Someone has to be the guinea pigs and I'm hosting for an age range I feel comfortable speaking and relating to for the first few events.
  3. You are more than welcome to create your own events if you're over the age range or outside the target of any future events. Nothing is stopping you but you! I wish you all the best!

Runner spots?

Hey local Olympians! I’m getting back into my running to fight the evil winter weight gain and was wondering where y’all do your evening walks/runs. I’m in Lacey and have just been going around the neighborhood and usually don’t see anyone except maybe an elderly neighbor, anyway a change of scenery and friendly people just make it so much more pleasant! Thanks in advance :) (Ps I usually do between 2-5 miles)

Whats up with the bookstore next to legends arcade downtown?

My boyfriend and I had a very weird experience that left both of us going “wtf.” It was around 9pm and we stepped out of legends really quickly for a smoke and got approached by a man from the bookstore asking us if we liked music and books. My boyfriend being super friendly said yes, I was also on board, and we went in. Mind you we said yes, so at first we were indulging this guy and having a good somewhat super personal conversation because we willingly went in there. But then things got kind of weird, just some over stepping of boundaries and I got very uncomfortable. Im not trying to bash the place, because I know for some this place is the real deal. A guy that walked by the bookstore a few minutes prior to me and my bf going in said that one of the books he got there “changed his life” so im not discounting any of those expirences!! Just wondering if anyone else has had an odd experiences or what info anyone has about this place because I cant find anything about it anywhere.

Fried rice without the peas

My wife hates peas. Is there any Chinese restaurants around that has fried rice with no peas?

Weird, growing up in the Midwest most places didn't have the peas and carrots in their fried rice. I hope I don't have to learn how to cook our own 😀

Arcades in the late 80s/early 90s.

Alright. Now that Insert Coin is open, it brought back a few memories of the arcades we had when I was a kid. I remember TILT was in South Sound mall right next to the pet shop. But, I can't remember the name of the arcade we had in Capital Mall. Do any of y'all remember?

MLM SCAM ALERT

Warning, all my friends in the Washington area do not fall for this scam!! They will come into your house under the guise of teaching you about fire and safety and giving you a free safety kit only to try and turn around to sell you an overpriced fire alarm that you will have to open a credit card for with a three day cancellation policy that they are very shady and don’t tell you about. Just don’t do it!!! The companies name is Northwest health and safety. And the fire alarm is called an Omni shield. 0/10 very shady and scammy and they pray on your desire to keep yourself and your family safe to drive their sales. It’s a multilevel marketing company.

Any large Asian markets where I can buy a “hotpot” pot?

As the title implies I am looking to buy a hotpot pot so I can have hotpot at home. When I lived in Cali there was one that my wife and I would go to that had tons of produce, live fish to buy, tons of cool frozen foods I had never seen. Last there was an isle with woks and bowls and hotpot’s and all other manner of cooking related gear. Looking for something similar.
