The world's best alt/indie country band deserves a subreddit.
"We basically play really loud folk music" - Rhett Miller
/r/Old97s
Alt-country singer/songwriter Rhett Miller is no stranger to the music industry. He meticulously balances being the frontman of Old 97's and a solo project, each with its own unique sound, drawing in fans from several different genres. Closing out the year with a few headline shows, Rhett will be performing at LPR in NYC on 11.30. With 3 decades worth of music, a special guest TBA, and a few covers up his sleeve, this one-night-only intimate set is the best way to de-stress after the holiday chaos. Son's girlfriend not attending tomorrow evening. Potentially have an extra ticket right now if anyone is looking.
My first Old 97’s show was at Fletcher’s in Baltimore, MD in …January 1997? Does anyone have the date? I’d love to know! At least I have the set list.
If you like 80’s new wave keyboard bands and Beck’s Odelay album you should check him out. Frankly, I didn’t like it, but to each his own.
Hey all!! I’ll be on a work trip in Charleston next week and I’m thinking about catching them at the Music Farm Tuesday. Who else is going? What are the odds I’ll be able to get tickets day of?
I'd hate for it to go to waste. Anybody want it?
[Edit/Update] A mom and dad needed a ticket for their son so I let them have it! Karma rewarded me with a spilled beer on my shoes during the absolutely god-awful opener, but then gave me a decent setlist, a decent performance, and a guitar pick flying into the crowd and hitting my arm to keep as a souvenir! So, overall, a worthwhile show for a pretty casual fan such as myself. Glad I won tickets!
Some were saying Rhett was sick but I couldn’t tell they sounded great!
Can no longer make these shows. Best offer takes them! Will transfer in the TM app. Thx.
I wish they would get more fame, not TikTok fame but people actually knowing who they are considering they really do have amazing music and deserve all the love and attention. I haven’t met ANY kid my age who adores it just like me just my little sister really.
So awesome!
Taking my second youngest kid and the friend that turned me on to them ten years ago.
I finally get to see the boys live next week for the first time and I’m wondering if they’ve been selling custom posters for each show or if there’s a single one for the whole tour available at the merch table. Thanks!
$40/per ticket for General Admission
I’m so so so so sad my family can no longer make it to the performance. I’d love to see some or all of the tickets be put to use, so message me to buy. I’d transfer them to you from my wallet once I receive payment (Venmo or Zelle). They’re 39 online but had about 8 bucks each in added fees. I’m just selling for a flat 40.
If you haven’t been to a 97s concert before, you’re in for a real treat.
Can't make it. Hoping someone else can
Anyone going this year or went last year? I've done Steve Earle's camp at the same resort but not Rhett's.
So Good!
What a show! What a crowd! The boys were on fire tonight!
The site says "venue presale" which seems different than I guess "artist presale" and makes me think the presale code comes from the Guild themselves (loyal customers of the venue?) versus something I might get from being on the band's email list (although I've not got presale codes from them before, so maybe I've got that wrong).
Any guidance appreciated.
Got the new LP today, the limited edition "astroturf edition" #400 of 400 from Good Records in Dallas.
It's a 3 hour drive for me to Indianapolis, or 1 hour either way, East to Detroit or west to Grand Rapids both indoors. I saw Houndmouth 2 nights. Fantastic outdoor venue. Don't sleep on it.
Tomorrow, Friday April 5, 3PM EST. Reddit AMA r/altcountry u/old97sband
Howdy! I'm a writer over at Texas Monthly and I spent a few hours on the phone with Rhett this week with a fun assignment: getting him to go through the first twelve albums to rank them in order from worst to best.
He was very honest (maybe too honest) about it, and told a bunch of really fascinating stories about each of them I'd never heard before. You can read the story here, and if there are any details about any of the records you're curious about, feel free to ask—the story ran at around 4,000 words, but there's even more that got cut for space.
At any rate, just wanted to share—I'm a huge fan and getting the chance to go back with Rhett through the full discography, and to get him to quantify how he feels about it all and reflect on thirty years of the band was a really cool experience that I tried to capture as best i could.
