In a disturbing incident in Oklahoma City, 70-year-old Mr. Vu, who is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs just 115 pounds, was violently thrown to the ground by police after a brief exchange. Mr. Vu, who has limited English skills, had touched the officer’s badge and told him to “shut up.” Despite the fact that Mr. Vu posed no threat to the officers—his small size and frailty making it clear he could not possibly harm them—the police took extreme and unnecessary action.
Rather than de-escalating the situation or finding a way to communicate more effectively, such as calling for a translator to bridge the language barrier, the officer chose to slam Mr. Vu to the ground. There were other, more appropriate options available—such as warning him not to touch the badge or instructing him to place his hands behind his back—but the officer opted for force instead.
What makes this incident even more tragic is Mr. Vu’s health condition—he suffers from bone cancer, which makes his bones more fragile and vulnerable to injury. The brutal impact of being thrown to the ground resulted in a broken skull, leaving Mr. Vu with serious injuries.
I videoed this at 10:04 Pm tonight (11/9). I have no idea if it’s a meteor shower or what but it looks pretty cool.
We both voted in person on election day and now looking at our voter portal it is showing this? We are in The Village, so not a big town.
Hi all. Just before school began this year, various Superintendents were saying that security funds they had been saving for expensive purchases were removed from their accounts by Ryan Walters and Co. Walters initially stated that the funds were allowed to rollover, then once they were confiscated, he said that they were to be spent when they received the money. The Legislature weighed in and said that it was their intent that the funds could roll over for three years. Again, Walters argued saying no, that's not what they said, There was some back and forth and then it disappeared from the news. I can't find an update anywhere. Thanks for any assistance.
Since Walter’s has decided to go forth on ending the department of education in Oklahoma, does this mean, exactly, that this ends federal funding? And so if federal funding (if so) is gone, does this mean IDEA for IEPs will also be eliminated because it is federally funded?
My son has an IEP. I am trying to get shit straight. Thank you
I see opposite things recommended about crawl space openings in general. Some people say leave them open to allow air flow. Other say seal them up to prevent humid air from entering and creating mold. But I think it has more to do with the climate of your location. Thoughts on specific winterizing procedures?
My floors are so cold in the winter and I'm trying to find ways to improve that even just a little bit. I live in OKC.
This is longggggg over due
I work for a waste company in Oklahoma and they are TERRIBLE. (Remaining unnamed.) What are some awful companies you’ve had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with here?
My parents house was destroyed in the November 3rd tornado that hit 89th & Sooner road. I'm helping clean up and find what we can and am hoping to find a way to get a few items restored, if possible.
We have the flag that was presented to my grandmother at my grandfather's funeral (WWII army veteran) and some of his awards. The flag is still in the case and the case appears intact, however it's been severely water damaged.
I also pulled out some portraits of some ancestors (late 1800s I think.) The wooden frames and the glass are intact but the backs were soggy and falling apart. I removed the portraits and placed them in layers of tissue paper for now, but would like to see about restoring them to the frames if possible.
Thought I'd check here and see if anyone recommends a particular person or business to handle restorations. We are likely to come across additional items.
Thank you!
According to various estimates, there are 80,000 to 90,000 illegal immigrants in Oklahoma, most of whom are concentrated in OKC and Tulsa. With Trump’s promise of mass deportations, how do you think that would actually work?
So I in search of some specific laws. Custody laws to be exact. Ive heard there was an update to the law on 2022 but I'm not surem where can I go to see all the actual laws. Like what the laws say word for word. I want to educate myself on this subject and finding a place where I can view the actual laws would help me immensely. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Hey all, I know we’re caught up in the election stuff but was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for fun/scenic off-roading places in Oklahoma? To be clear, I mean 4x4 vehicles (Bronco, Jeep, etc) not ATVs.
I’ve been to the ORV park outside Tulsa at the dam and thought it was great, hoping to experience more of what our state has to offer without driving across state lines! I’m in the OKC area but happy to put in the miles for a good time. Thanks in advance!
As the title suggests I am energized more than ever after last night. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions on ways to get more politically involved (volunteer and such) in the state. I’ve signed up to volunteer with OK Dems but curious if there are other organizations. Of course I understand we are in the reddest state in the union but I’d still like to do anything that could make a difference, albeit small.
