Any news on this spill? It happened in early February.
I can't seem to find anything on what I see on Google Earth to be a massive oil spill in the Taymyr region of Russia. I was just exploring in Google Earth and found a peculiar red lake and thought could this be a salt farm? I looked around more and saw it looked more like an oil production. From a large body of water it flows into rivers all around, I'm no expert but this looks insane. I found this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norilsk_oil_spill but this doesn't seem to be the same incident. Coordinates 69°14'48.3"N 87°47'45.7"E https://goo.gl/maps/62uQkNLQ4KXBTPjV6
I just recently learned about an oil spill that had occurred in California a year ago. It angers me because I have been wanting to visit California for a long time. I used to go to the gulf coast and haven't been back since the spill. What happened in California a year ago? How bad was this spill? Are the beaches open? What are they like afterwards? We're areas north of the spill affected? Most important, how did they clean it up? We're chemical dispersants used?
Hey, just an FYI that the 90 day comment period for the proposed program for 2023-2028 for how the United States will lease offshore federal waters for new fossil fuel infrastructure ends this Thursday.
So if you feel passionate about it - whether there should be new leases or not, now is the time to raise your voice. I'm on the no new leases end of the spectrum for a lot of reasons, and if you feel similarly, you can personalize some written comments here or if you don't want to send a singular comment, sign this petition that will get sent to the Department of Interior on Thursday.
I’m not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I’m a masters student trying to get into natural protection documentary filmmaking.
I want to reach out and have people who have been affected by oil spills to submit me audio clips describing their experiences. Where do you think would be a good place to do this?
(Feel free to dm me)
Hi all,
I am a college student working on a project related to oil spills. I found this sub-reddit and would love to speak to a few people who have had direct experience with oil spills (any type of experience including but not limited to spill clean up, advocacy, volunteering). Your input will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
On my 11 mile Skateboarding trek that I do almost every other day from Newport Pier to Sunset Beach in Huntington Beach, California I noticed something different.
The oil tankers and ships that mirror a naval invasion? No that’s common place. The state hired workers to clean the coast of litter and loiterers? No that’s a usual occurrence too.
As I continue my first year of Skateboarding at the age of 37 I notice how much space I have on the Huntington Beach Boardwalk I first thought Tuesday crowds are usually light but alas I was able to put my finger on the anomaly, there are no cars in the parking lot.
As I finished my exercise I got two Gatorade’s, pounded one, and went to hand the other off to whomever might be at Sunset Park. You know to do my good deed for the day. I’m glad I did because that’s where I was informed of the oil spill that closed parking all of Huntington Beach’s parking lots and crowded the beach sands with Hazmat teams and state officials.
My first action was to volunteer in the recovery of my state beach but they don’t want volunteers in fear that any amateur help would slow down the process.
So as a problem solver I thought of a true solution: STOP DRIVING CARS THAT RUN ON DEAD DINOSAURS.
