Technology... Ugh

Got off of work a couple of hours ago. Didn't have any issues (haven't had any other than one racist lady) but today I got super annoyed with the technology, and just how... bad it is.

Been with OD for a little under a month now and the register still pisses me off. Super slow for no reason and it feels like a lot of the important functions are hidden behind too many layers.

Today also my Mobi/scanning device couldn't connect to the server so I couldn't search up any items so I looked like an idiot to one customer.

Not even that mad just annoyed office depot sells a lot of laptops and computers yet still uses ancient tech that freezes and takes forever to reboot

It's my first job so I expect some difficulties but most of these difficulties feel annoying. Still enjoy the job though especially since it's my first one

So, you’re telling me that…

I can’t help a customer get the best price. So, let me tell you that I’ll continue to give the LAST REMAINING customer the best price. Gerry and Kevin simply make too f’n much $$$ to worry about a discount at the store level. It is all too apparent that the retail P&L is about to go away. One or two stores at a time. Staples here I come 👀

Why does office depot offer shipping?

Does it make a good enough profit. Seems like every customer that ships doesn't by anything else in the store. With the system it just takes up too much cpd worker time

Black Friday

In my 10 years with this company, this has been the worst Black Friday I’ve experienced in both promos and traffic. It’s like we had no game plan. I think supplies is our bread and butter, we should have just had a straight 30 or 40 percent off all supplies in store. With how crazy our IMUs are, we’d still be profiting, and they could’ve still had the regular tech and furniture sales.

New Business Select memo

Not sure if this memo is limited to just my store, but man does it piss me off. I can't remember exactly what the memo says, but the main thing that stuck out (apart from it shoving "never pay full price again" down our throats) was this weird jab at lower level part time associates, AKA the vast majority of OD employees. To sum it up, it basically talked about how leads/supervisors need to crack down on the part time associates not getting enough signups, donations, sales, ETC. and how they "shouldn't be OK with this".

See, that would be a reasonable complaint if we got ANY sort of incentive to get more signups/donations. Commission would be a great start. I'm not saying I want $100 added to my paycheck for every signup, but SOMETHING. I'm sorry but when you're barely paying your associates above minimum wage and short staffing so many stores to cut back on scheduling costs, why the hell should I feel any reason to push for signups when it benefits me in 0 way whatsoever? Unless I'm missing something?? Been working with OD for about a year now though so I feel I'm pretty well versed on corporate's policies to this point.

I suppose I'm less mad about the complaint itself, and more so mad about the condescending wording they went with. Man, either commission for signups or an overall raise would be a great way to push your associates to get more signups.

Cyber Monday Paper deal

So apparently we’re getting another Red Top paper promo for cyber Monday. You spend $200 and can get up to 3 red top cases for $29.99 a piece. Supposed to a big one day promo.

As it turns out you can just get that right now. Spend $200 and the register marks down the paper to $15.99 a case! Brilliant job Office Depot…

Demotion

I got pulled into the office yesterday because of an availability change & was told they're going to rethink putting me in a key holder position, aka demoting me, Which this isn't actually a change as they've known this since March and they've been pretty damn good at following it even though it's not in the system. I tried to put it in the system and it got denied, talked to the boss about it and everything seemed ok, they were working with it, so all good right?

I got tagged a few months ago to be a part time team lead after one of our old ones got offered a better position at another store in the plaza, and they wouldn't match his pay to keep him. They offered me a 4$ raise to take his spot and the GM was definitely panicking because the other one was leaving too, so I took it thinking giving it a shot wouldn't be that bad, and they said absolutely nothing about having open availability for said part time position, which I absolutely can not have due to outside obligations.

They immediately started scheduling me on days I told them I can not work, and it's been a stressful situation trying to get them to stop, not to mention they've been completely missing the days off I've had in the system since July, citing 'team player' crap. None of this is new, so don't start trying to say I'm in the wrong & I have to find my own coverage for your mistake.

I'm off til Monday thanks to another little chat with the GM so I just needed to rant. Never in my life have I had someone say 'Oh we can't have you in a certain part time position because you can't work 2 days out of the week'

$10 off $20 coupon

Had some ladies come in saying they wiped out 'the other store' of $3.00 paper towels and used the $10 off $20 MULTIPLE TIMES. We shut them down and they left pissed off. This coupon is to ONLY be used for CPD customers picking up their print orders. Whoever is using this coupon at the register and or multiple times for the same person will be found out as it's a trackable code. JUST PLEASE STOP. THANKS!!

Business Select Enrollments down.

Y'all see the Business Select plan update? I guess our goals are going down even more because we are not signing up as many people as a company.

"Due to the elimination of the free trial with Business Select enrollments, plans are being decreased. This decrease will be by 21%, which is the percentage of customers who have historically cancelled their memberships prior to the end of the free trial."

I knew this was gonna happen. Thoughts?

Office Depot Sucks at training

I’m a new hire at Office Depot and this is my second week. I have to say, this store, does not have any professional associates for training. Having to just shadow someone who has been doing the job for however long, is not teaching me how to do the job properly. Some associates have an attitude, which in customer service, it’s a bad look customers will not ask a female employee with an attitude, for help, it’s not reality, especially in this environment. The associates get annoyed, frustrated, or have an attitude when I ask what to do. Yall want me to do a job, and I don’t know how to fully do the job so teach me. Watching videos is not helping not even them can remember the videos and they haven’t. I’m 50/50 on leaving because this is sad asf. The copy and print manager at my store, she runs around with her head cut off and does so much that she triggers my anxiety, same for my Assistant manager, you trigger my anxiety. Relax, calm down it can get figured out. I love how calm the environment is, but once again, if the team I’m working with isn’t meeting my expectations, I will exit myself from that team. Any thoughts? I have not brought the up to my store manager because I know he will say it’s not for you, when in reality the stuff I am complaining about has solutions. They are just too lazy sometimes and it’s annoying. As an employee, I have expectations for a company, if they don’t live up to them then I will X myself out the situation because at this point, this is a waste of time and energy. I had some personal issues Sunday that I had to Call out, my phone was off I didn’t have the money to turn it on, this man got an attitude and got mad and raised his voice, so I did as well and got hostile, how can I call out if my phone and my man’s phone was off? SUPER unfair. 2nd, I needed that day for my mental health, he said “I was a full time college student and I did the same” dude STFU for once and stop comparing yourself to others, your life is not like mine, it’s way more complicated because you, a manager, pays their way through life I don’t I grind for my shit. I don’t have time for disrespect as an employee and I will report this store if need be. IDC at this point.

What's the the express fee?

My team supervisor, my sales manager, my store manager, and basically ever fuckin' manager has told me in the last week that ANY copy and print job that is done "now" has to have a 20% express fee added to it.
This includes any and everything, apparently.
Even if we're super slow, and I have nothing to do, I'm supposed to tell every customer that wants anything done, they either have to leave it and come back, or they get an upcharge.

So, for instance, if a customer wants ONE SHEET OF PAPER to be laminated, I have to charge them extra because they don't want to leave and come back for it.

So far, I've skirted actually doing this. It's just embarrassing, to be honest, to sit there and tell customers they have to leave and come back, even if it takes me 5 minutes to do their job. And it seems like a policy designed to annoy people, more than anything else.

Has anyone else actually delt with this? I understand that sometimes, customers demand that a job get done fast, but why does this policy have to apply to literally everyone? WHY DOES THIS COMPANY MAKE SUCH SHIT DECISIONS? DO THEY HATE HAVING CUSTOMERS?

Desperately trying to use self service printing correctly

Hi all, I am a customer that needs help with self service printing. I am sure I’m doing something wrong but I haven’t found an answer.

I’ve emailed designs I created to the Office Depot printing email to get a code and each time I go to print, it takes the designs (3 separate pngs) and combines them into one page with the designs really tiny. In fact, I think when I put in the code, it just prints the whole email, like even my email signature. I even take the time to properly size my designs before hand.

The first time I did it I asked for help but they just ended up printing it for me at the desk (nice). The second time I could tell they were stressed and I was told they didn’t have time to help show me what to do. So I’m anxious to go in again and ask for help.

Is it because I’m doing pngs? It didn’t specify online which file is better. But should I try separate pdfs? Or just do ONE document per email? (But will it still print out just the email itself? I don’t really get why that’s happening).

Any help is so appreciated. I know this is annoying and I just want to figure out how to do it myself so I can get in and out. I appreciate all you guys do. Thanks.

Tips rules?

So apparently we're not allowed to keep tips we have to put them in a designated area in the cash office and then it will all be spent on stuff in the break room? I just think that's kinda dumb considering the lazy manager who sits in the back all day or the cashier that stands with there head buried in there phone ignoring customers wasn't helping the customers who are giving the tips to ONE person who helped them above and beyond why should they reap the benefits of my hard work!? It's not like CPD part timers get paid much anyway!? So why not just let us have our 5 or 20 bucks on occasion instead of giving it to the "team" as whole!? Just seems like a dumb made up rule to keep morale down. At least when were were able to keep them it made you happy for a few hours! Now it's like keep it I have to split it with 8 ppl this place sucks!

Streaks in Prints

Hi, I need help identifying why our printers (both full service) are printing these lines. I've run a color calibration, a xerox drum test (all came back streaky.) it seems to only do it to some prints and I've changed all my settings, trying to see if it was the printer density or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
