Political science
if I knew someone who hypothetically did not have a vehicle registered with campus safety and parked overnight in a staff spot and got a ticket, should they be worried about collections? since they don't go here I don't think it's too big of a deal but am worried about potential issues if campus safety sends the ticket to a different agency for collection
Edit: FYI - This bill was worded to be applicable in private higher level educational institutions.
Best article I've read yet.
Hiii!!
Oberlin is my dream school, i would love to go here!! By stats seem pretty average but honestly I have no idea whether or not I’ll get in. I have a weighted 3.89 and an unweighted 3.65 gpa out of 4. I’m applying to the college for musical studies with viola and also arts administration. I have 4 AP’s and 5 dual enrollment classes, in leadership with many volunteer hours, (probably over 100) and also have been playing viola for 8 years and have done pretty high level chamber and orchestral summer festivals internationally. I’m mixed, (my mom is fijian-indian, immigrated from fiji, and my dad is white).. what are my chances? Would i have a chance at getting any scholarships?
Hello, I’m currently trying to figure out my whole life and I want to see what future years will look like course wise with my intended major. I know plan ahead on banner self service and degree works are things that can help, but I really don’t want to put the courses in manually because I’m not so sure where they go in what sequence. Is there some kind of website/application/service that can help with just doing all the work for me in terms of scheduling? Thanks in advance 🙏
I don’t know if this is just me, but recently I lofted my bed and when I get on it now, it shakes and rocks so much. It feels so scary getting up there, so to those of you who lofted your beds does it just shake whenever you touch it or do I need to get some assistance to fix this issue and who do I reach out to 😭 thanks in advance 😅
wanted to know how good the cs department, internship opportunities and job market is for oberlin cs grads for someone who wants to pursue a career at a big tech company later
ALSO how good is the rate of students going to ivies and MIT for masters for CS
As far as I know, I can only spend flex dollars in the campus grocery store or potentially at Rat's or Umami or the library cafe. Is there anywhere else (potentially in town) where I can spend flex dollars?
Demographic: White, first gen, low income, queer/disabled, in state
Intended study: Double major in East Asian Studies and Politics, minor in Dance or Art
Stats: 3.89 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), 9 Dual Enrollments, no APs or honors because my school doesn't offer them, ACT: 27 (not submitting), ranked 8/200 in my class
Extracurriculars: NHS, BPA (which I ran for office), NTHS, art club (which I ran for office), sci/enviro club, varsity academic team, JV tennis, 40+ volunteer hours, elementary school mentor
Submitting an art portfolio as well, I also got into the diversity and access overnight program.
My essay seems to be really good IMO and my comp teacher personally likes it.
I am a Black first-year from CA planning to go into history and/or art. so far the experience has been okay, i have awesome professors, i love my classes, i love college life and the amount of autonomy i have but like most I have been really struggling socially. especially as a black girl whos intended major is predominantly white and asian. It's been really hard to make friends as a black student here. the amount of micro-aggressions, macro-aggressions, weird stares from both students and just residents of the town, and other random racist shit has been so exhausting and infuriating and I grew up in the bay area where the population of black people is like less than 5%. Not to mention some white people here just ... refuse to talk to you if you're black. I was aware of what I was getting into going to a PWI in the midwest (I have gone to PWI private schools my whole life) but its honestly more than I expected. I'm just very exhausted and overwhelmed and not looking forward to the rest of the school year. My parents have asked about transferring but I love the school itself too much to want to leave.
I realize this is not really asking any questions and is more of a vent-post but @ any Black students/alum, how did making friends go for you at Oberlin? Is there a way I can befriend more poc/black students besides just going to A-house events? Does it get better ..?

I am an international student considering applying to Oberlin neuroscience for fall 2025. I saw there was an 8% acceptance rate for international students. For international students who got in, what were your stats?

How low are my chances?
I’m in high school currently and I’m considering oberlin to study viola performance and either chemistry or chemical engineering. Are these particularly hard schools to get into at oberlin? Just wondering what I should know before going ahead with this.
Hi! I signed up for the Obie Experience overnight program from the 29th-30th. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for it, or if there are any other people signed up for that one. I'm equally excited and nervous as Oberlin is my first choice so far :)
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student considering applying to Oberlin as my ED1. I plan to major in chemistry and pursue the 3-2 program. I’m curious about the chemistry department at Oberlin—specifically, what are the research opportunities like? Also, how are the labs? I’ve heard that there’s only one lab for each chemistry branch, like organic and inorganic. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
I'm looking into applying to Oberlin Conservatory and something that particularly worries me as the lack of POC at the school. It is 62% White and only 4% Black. Can any POC's speak to their experience at this school (particularly those that didn't grow up in predominately white spaces).
If you are planning to vote in Ohio, note that you CANNOT use an out of state drivers license as your ID to allow you to vote. This was a recent change in the law (2023), so this will be the first major election it applies to.
You also WILL NOT be able to use the Ohio Digital ID, you must have a physical ID.
The list of acceptable documents is here (listed below):
https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/id-requirements/
If you do not have one of these documents, there are some solutions (from best to worst):
(1) You can still vote absentee! This is probably the easiest way to still vote, but you will need to request your absentee ballot soon. The deadline is 29 October, but it is recommended to request the application by 22 October, to make sure you receive your documents and are able to get them returned by the election date.
(2) You can go to the BMV and apply for an identification card (you will need to bring the appropriate documentation to get this card from the BMV). Identification cards (without driver's licenses) are free, and the temporary card that you obtain is a legal form of ID.
(3) In a worst case scenario, where it is election day and you haven't done (1) or (2). You should still go and vote with a provisional ballot. In order for your ballot to be counted, you will have to bring an appropriate form of ID to the election office within 4 days after the election.
If you have any friend's from out of state who are planning to vote in Ohio, please share this info with them as well!
Ohio driver's license;
State of Ohio ID card;
Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV;
A US passport;
A US passport card;
US military ID card;
Ohio National Guard ID card; or
US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card
All photo IDs must have the following:
An expiration date that has not passed;
A photograph of the voter;
The voter’s name, which must substantially conform to the voter’s name as it appears in the Poll List or in the Poll Book
**NOTICE**: An unexpired Ohio Driver License, State ID Card, or Interim Documentation with your **former address IS an ACCEPTABLE** form of ID when your current address is in the pollbook.
Hi! I was wondering how I (an oberlin student) should go about finding babysitting jobs in the area? Thank you!
Hihi! Prospective student tossing up ED in November. I'm a big city kid, I live in metro Atlanta and have always felt more at home in huge bustling urban centers.
From what I've seen of Oberlin from doing research and speaking with admissions reps and professors, it really seems like just the most wonderful place - delightfully strange and warm and free. My biggest concern is just... the middle of nowhere, Ohio location. How much is there to do? Am I missing out on opportunities I might get in a bigger city? Does it make certain things like shipping or internships or work inconvenient?
I wanted to ask a few students: what's your genuine opinion on the three questions above, and how does the town and location of Oberlin genuinely feel to be in? Thanks ❤️.
Curious how OC grads and prospective Obies feel about the continued deterioration of Oberlin's ranking in the US News and World Report liberal arts college list. I know there have been several methodology changes with the rankings, including more weighting given to graduate giving and graduate salaries, but the deterioration is striking over a 20-year period. I believe 211 liberal arts colleges were ranked this year so Oberlin's ranking of 55 puts it out of the top quartile. It's easy to discount rankings in general and attribute this deterioration to metrics that are punitive, in particular, to Oberlin, but the fact of the matter is these rankings get a lot of press and are used by prospective student families as a data point. Thoughts?
