In a previous comment to a post, I stated that Glinton consistently talks about the need for a stronger culture in his post-game comments. I wanted to come with receipts and look at Glinton's quotes.
In sports, accountability from the top-down stands as a fundamental aspect of success. Coaches with a vision shape and uphold that culture. However, coaches can just as easily undermine or destroy a culture. As reflected in his quotes, Glinton demonstrated an uncanny ability to divert blame for the recent skid from himself to the players and their lack of commitment, aggression, and grit. His comments over the past two months reveal a lack of ownership in his role and vision that effectively undermine the very "culture" he is trying to build:
Successful programs require strong, accountable leadership. Look no further to Las Vegas to see the impact a coach with a vision can have on a team. The cognitive dissonance displayed by Glinton when he blames the culture for losses while failing to see how he ultimately stands responsible for creating a culture of, in his own words, "fight, commitment, and heart" is wild. The lack of urgency and expectation in calling a loss "acceptable" furthers this complacent culture. These actions should be the final nails in the coffin of Glinton's time as coach. Hopefully, he retains a role on staff or with Project 51O. As the Roots head to a critical period in their development in the upcoming years, they need and fans deserve someone that understands their role in the formation and establishment of a winning culture.
We are still in the playoffs
We are one day away from what the USL is dubbing “Judgement Day”, the final day in the 2024 USL Championship season. So it’s time to get a pulse going in.
Roots are locked in to the playoffs which is good. Assuming the USL structure stays mirrored as it has in the past, if standings hold in the West, it means our opening game will be against Sac. Otherwise it’s most likely a rematch with Vegas. Personally I would take my chances with Sac just for the epic rivalry potential but given that we actually have marks on Vegas some people might feel we have a stronger bid there.
Coliseum prices are out and they are a bit steep. From where I’m standing and as someone in Deep Roots who just town packs their way through games I’m not as affected. But I was expecting cheaper tickets and I’m surprised we don’t have them. I’m sure Roots would be willing to drop prices either for specific games in the season (like Sac) or if they get big investors which might be a new possibility in the Coliseum. But I am scared that the prices will be just too high, the idea of going back to the Coliseum will be shrouded with more controversy and fan attendance will dwindle way more than it reasonably should.
In terms of form the Roots finally seem to be clicking. I’m going to stop there so I don’t jinx it.
Also was checking Seat Geek and it looks like there are only a few hundred missing tickets for tomorrows game which should mean there is a decent crowd
I was disappointed to see prices did not drop especially with more seating and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Don't get me wrong I like watching the Roots but I know when I'm overpaying for a sporting event. MLS games are cheaper and I'm pretty sure it's higher than most USL teams. Oh and parking probably gonna cost another $20 plus and not be free.
I've heard some say they need to pay for employees but the Quakes and Bay FC do the same thing , get solid crowds, and you can easily find tickets under $30. I just don't see many people wanting to pay over $30 to see a game. People went to the first Ballers game but then realized how overpriced they were and attendance dipped. I'm not sure what it is with Oakland sports but it seems like they're trying to rip us off. Personally, I will only be looking for cheaper tickets on the secondary market. Thats just my opinion.
Another trophy to the case I guess. This season has been our season of branding for sure. Zendeya and Tom Holland pulling out the Roots fit, + The Longfellow fields mural of Johnny and Sam, and now the game Grumps. I can only imagine the brand power next year
After topsy turvy season, Oakland Roots are going to the post season thanks to win over Las Vegas.

Introducing Roots Post: the all new recap of the pre and past game whenever there is absence of Roots Blog.
First things first, I like winning again. Johnny the white is real, praise be.
So happy to see Glinton finally finding the spot for Sinestera. It’s been 7 games since he joined and it’s been clear we had no idea where to put him and Baca. Loved where they were tonight and both of them have very sturdy performances.
Loved the opening lineup as well. As much as I hate to say it I’m glad Dwyer was out. I love the man and he has such a story behind him but he just doesn’t deliver. Johnny is the opportunist and had a heater tonight because of it. Cherry was also a great sub for Johnny in the end, he performed in the role of defender for the final box hold better than Dwyer would have imo. The defensive line was strong and all played their part as expected. The midfield was hungry and were active in the pressure. The same thing that won us guts and glory in the mid season to fell the best in the country. Not to mention Paul the wall in exceptional form.
Only complaint is that one dribble by Justin that almost cost us but it’s over now so it never happened.
Unfortunately despite the win, we are officially eliminated from the top 4 thanks to Colorado putting down Monterey and Phoenix falling to Memphis. It was a slim chance but we will take playoffs if they are offered for sure. But make sure you turn out on Saturday and give CSUEB a final farewell for the last time in Roots history before we move up to the heart of Oakland.
As a final note, the SGs were awesome. Loved seeing the giant Los Roots flag in the bottom right at all times, it was great. So incredible we have fans so committed to their team they will fly across state lines for them. You guys are what give me hope for a legendary Coliseum atmosphere
JOHNNY CANT BE STOPPED
Roots vs LV (obviously)
Tulsa vs Hartford (rooting for Hartford)
San Antonio vs Louisville (rooting for Louisville)
Monterey vs Colorado (rooting for Monterey)
Phoenix vs Memphis (rooting for Phoenix)
If your looking for games to watch before we start, look for some of those and that’s who we want to win
Here’s what’s needed for the Roots to get back up to a top 4 spot and secure a home game. It’s not impossible but it’s tough:
Oakland beats Vegas and Birmingham
Switchbacks need to lose an upset against Monterey and lose against Sac
Memphis need to lose/tie to New Mexico and Phoenix
4.Pheonix need to beat or tie Memphis but lose/tie to Louisville
Assuming that all happens we barely slide into 4th. Thankfully Louisvilles last 2 games are against western teams so they are coming to be a grim reaper for our competition. Helps our chances of either making top 4 or just staying in playoffs.
Sold out game tonight vs Phoenix!
I’m starting to think Gavin reads this sub or the USL sub at least. He finally stopped booting the ball down the field and had his players dribble. I saw good passing, good running, and some serious solid shots (as a side note fuck that grass, that would have been an own goal if it didn’t bounce off the lip of the baseball diamond outline. USL needs to implement some regulations because playing on pitches like this is absurd).
It’s like Glinton saw me complaining about his horrendous boot down the line calls and finally switched to dribbling.I saw far more of the boot plays from 901 and each time it ended up with us getting the ball. It seems like Gavin has finally found the spot for Baca in the midfield and the role for Sinistera in the front. Both played exceptionally well and I hope they can show us some glory up front there. Hackshaw being fantastic as always and it was nice to see Riley finally prove why he’s such a flexible player with the long needed goal. Justin could have been better tonight but he had very solid plays and some good opportunities maybe compromised by either tunnel vision or pressure. Loved to see Reid and Njie back to their sprinting selves, their speed definitely saved that game for us.
Johnny is back and he has white hair again. Is it any coincidence we score? His play was better than anything we have seen for months from him (coincidentally when he lost his old set of white hair). It was aggressive, decisive, and relentless. He had plenty of great opportunities and I think the only reason he’s not getting on the plane home with a Hattrick is just a bit of timing work and a foot that’s a few grams too heavy.
Even though us letting in that first goal was abysmal and should never happen ever again, Blanchett had a very sturdy performance tonight. It’s not a win but it’s the best type of tie we could have asked for
WE SCORED A GOAL
WE SCORED A GOAL
WE SCORED A GOAL
WE SCORED A GOAL THEY FUCKED UP DIAZ BUT WE SOCRED A GOAL
Idk what to make of this but I really don’t like having another core member drop out. Sounds like he was having a falling out since the RI game but man it’s rough. (On a side note fuck that game). That game single handedly made 2 of our core players leave the team.
